T'Challa: "Vengeance has consumed you. It is consuming them. I'm done letting it consume me." Shuri: "Vengeance has consumed us. We cannot let it consume our people." Loved these parallels. Right down to Nakia saying to Toussaint: "Your father prepared us for his death."... Reference to what T'Chaka said: "A man who has not prepared his children for his death, has failed as a father." They definitely worked to make sure that T'Challa as a character was honored truly. Such a great tribute to Chadwick, as well asa great passing-of-the-torch story/development for Shuri. It really was heartbreaking seeing her go through the emotional ringer in this movie, which is such a contrast to her kid wisecracking sidekick role in the first flick.

M'Baku is King. Shuri sent him in her place. He was giving good advice the whole movie. That's his arc. Shuri is BP. MBaku gets a political promotion.

This movie made me cry more than fifty times than I can remember. I wasn’t prepared for the emotional scenes until the ending. But this has been one of my favourite Marvel movies of 2022.

my favorite thing about young T’Challa reveal is that in that moment, Shuri realizes that her mother was right: T’Challa is not really gone, he lives on in his son and, of course, in the memories of those he left behind. love that this movie is such a beautiful tribute to Chadwick Boseman’s legacy. ❤

I saw this movie 3 times in theaters, and the first time is the hardest I've ever cried watching a movie I do believe. My entire row was filled with college kids, and they all left sounding like they had terrible colds. Whole theater was completely silent during the logo tribute and then just cried off and on. Even more emotional because I saw Winston Duke speak in my hometown only a couple of weeks before his mom passed. Beautiful beautiful movie but so hard to watch at times.

Great reaction as always. My read on the ending is that M’Baku is challenging to be king not Black Panther. In Civil War T’Challa was the Black Panther while his father was ruling as the king so I think Shuri and M’Baku will have a similar arrangement. At least until little T’Challa is an adult.

Fun fact: A lot of people think that the hand gestures that Namor and his people use are from Dragon Ball Z, but the gesture is called the “Líik’ik Talokan,” or “Rise Talokan” in English, and is based on Mesoamerican codices, which are manuscripts that present traits of indigenous traditions and symbolic practices.

The wings on Namor`s feet were in The Comics. He was changed from a Eurasian-looking character based on Greco-Roman Mythology with a mixed Atlantean-human mutant heritage to a Latino/Hispanic character based on Mayan and Aztec Mythology to accomodate his actor Tenoch Huerta who is of Mexican and Purapecha Aztec descent and openly advocates for indigenous and Afro-Mexican civil rights in Mesoamerica .

Although this had some parts I didn't like, this one is definitely one of the better ones of phase 4 and gives me hope for the MCU to pick up it's quality again. The scenes with Chadwick also made me extremely emotional. Btw: I feel like the Wakandans got really nerfed in comparison to Black Panther 1, I think they struggled too much against the Talokans. And I really don't like the designs of Iron Hearts Armor and the suits for the Dora Milaje.

I agree, the CGI suits, apart from Shuri's, looked really poor. Took me out of it. The colouring and design seemed off. Unfortunately, both Black Panthers suffer from distractingly poor CGI in the final fight scenes which take people out of otherwise stellar movies

the wakandans aren’t fighters, unless that is their role in society. they have levels of tribal protection at work before their inner perimeter is breached, so they don’t have to fight.

I heard that iron heart's suit would change in design over time. Shuri didn't let her keep the current one so maybe the next one will look better. I can't say the same for the midnight angels though. I honestly had no problem with the suit itself, but the eyeholes were too big and alien like.

I really liked this movie. First Marvel movie in a long time that I honestly enjoyed. Shuri carried such a burden throughout the whole country. Besides the tears, I was very moved to see some sort of media FINALLY talking about the mistreatment of Mayas. Way too many people think Mayas disappeared before Europeans arrived but that myth is just not true. Never in my life did I think I'd see Mayas represented in a Marvel movie. Believe me, my cinema was LOUD when they showed Yucatán. Even a local rapper from here had the chance to do a song for the soundtrack.

Thanks to Ryan Coogler, as it was his idea to change Namor’s ancestry. Black folks know the importance of representation so intimately that it makes me happy to see us use opportunities to give more representation when other people are still making excuses. But props to Disney for not vetoing it too.

I'm sure you know by now that Angela Bassett has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress for this movie (the first acting nomination for the MCU), and it's because of 17:12 that I think she's going to win. What do you think? Keep in mind that both Stephanie Hsu and Jamie Lee Curtis were nominated in the same category for EEAAO.

Yes, the wings are in the comics. They are part of his mutant powers verses what abilities he has as an Atlantian. It's not impossible that M'Baku is the King now, given that Letitia Wright was (and possibly still is) on thin ice with Disney due to having been/being at least somewhat anti-vaxx.

M'baku didn't make a challenge for the role of the Black Panther, M'Baku made a challenge for the THRONE. You could say they are one in the same, but Wakanda has already had a Queen without a Black Panther so why not have the positions filled by two different Wakandans instead of one? I think Shuri will have no desire to hold both positions, or even be the Queen at all for that matter, and will simply hand M'Baku the crown. The decision would require the blessing of the Council', of course, but I think they would grant it to him. I think he deserves it and would do a good job, as he has certainly matured and grown wiser throughout his arc. At least until young Prince T'Challa/Touissant grows up to rightfully take up the mantle of either King or Black Panther or both.

M'Baku is going to take the throne while Shuri stays the Black Panther. She never wanted the title of Queen because she prefers to use her talents as before, with now the addition of being the figure head protector of Wakanda. I think Mbaku made a good advisor and supporter for Shuri during the crisis, so he's proven that perhaps she can trust him to be a wise king of all of Wakanda. Now Shuri joins the ranks of other Avengers who have lost everyone and will now be the starting point of the next generation (Young Avengers) to eventually take over. I think we may have to wait for Kang Wars (or whatever that last Avengers title is) for that major Avengers movie where the proteges of: Clint, Tony, Thor, Carol, Bruce, Scott, T'Challa, Sam, maybe even Wanda will step into their hero journey together. They'll have lots of first generation mentors to guide them, though. It was definitely a tear jerker movie. There were lots of sobering silences in my theater with sigh of people quietly crying. I think it was beautifully done. I also believe that Leticia should have gotten a nomination for her role because she and Angela put all their pain of loss into their performance. Leticia showed that she could take lead just as well as she did as a support role, imo. I felt her devastation when watching her mother die in front of her. I felt her rage at wanting to exact revenge for it too. Again, this was a beautifully done movie and despite the agenda of people trying to sabotage and bad talk the movie because they couldn't get a replacement actor or had misogynistic problems with the women carrying the movie, I think it did damn well.

Regarding M'Baku: I think you missed the part where Shuri sent M'Baku to the challenging Pits in her ship. A clear implication and endorsement for M'Baku as king from the Black Panther. That wasn't a joke, M'Baku is the new king.

The Heart-Shaped herb is meant for the descendants of Bashenga, the first Black Panther. A benefit of the ruling class, being honest about it (Bashenga finding his wife from the 4 tribes of Wakanda that stayed, with his children finding their partners the same way, and so on; Bashenga being around pre 6000 BC makes the generations that followed him almost imperceivable)

11:46 I have to say, your excitement at seeing Riri confuses me. At this point, you would've only known her from the comics, and I thought most comic readers *hated* Riri (or, at least, they hated the Brian Michael Bendis run). I never read the Ironheart comics, so I don't have any opinion on comic Riri. I disliked MCU Riri at first, but I started to like her after Ramonda saved her. Even though I have no opinion on her character in the comics, I will say that what I've heard about Riri's backstory in the comics doesn't make sense. We're supposed to believe that a 15-year-old built a suit of armor comparable to the Iron Man armor, by herself, without any help from someone who worked for Stark, and without using any Stark tech to build in? (Yes, I'm aware that Stark built his first armor with scraps in a cave, but to paraphrase William Ginter Riva, Riri is not Tony Stark.) I guess they fixed a few of those things in the MCU.

I know that I'm probably going to get a lot of hate for saying this, but I honestly believe that Marvel made a mistake by not recasting T'Challa. I know that they wanted to pay tribute to Chadwick in this movie, but I don't believe that Chadwick would've wanted T'Challa to die with him. I know you probably disagree, and I respect that, but there is one thing about this movie that we can all agree on: Ross has terrible taste in women. 😋

His son will be black Panther in the future that way Tchala as a character will live still be in the movies. They can time jump ten years for the 3rd or 4th movie. He would be 19 or 20 which is a good age to become black Panther.

I love how shuri is struggling and had to rely on tech to defeat namor because she is not a trained fighter. Tchalla would have clapped him from the get go though.

She is a trained fighter; she's just not Okoye, T'Challa, Nakia or one of Wakanda's top warriors. Picked up the weapon and fought in Black Panther, some in Infinity Wars, again in End Game, and now in Wakanda Forever
