I remember watching this movie in an Army theater in West Germany. I thought the place was gonna riot in that scene where they were trying to pull the antibodies off Rachel Welch.

There's a really funny story about that scene. They had to shoot at several times because, in the first take, the men were reluctant to touch anyplace sensitive on her body, and so they didn't have any real urgency to their movements. In later takes the men were told not to be so considerate, which then resulted in scenes that would definitely not make it on the final cut. In the end, the director and Miss Welch had the removal of antibodies thoroughly choreographed so the men would know exactly where they could reach so that they would not give offence or cause embarrassment, while also having their hands move quickly to convey the feeling of urgency necessary for the scene to work.

@qakeith Жыл бұрын
With all the extra stuff like the lighting, the figures, added photo etched parts, and the display case it was fairly expensive.
@x15galmichelleevans11 ай бұрын
@@qakeith You did a magnificent job on the model. I have one myself, but didn't tackle the lighting. There was a company that came out with a circular hexagon base for the model that matched the one seen in the movie. That really adds to it, but would make it much harder to put into a display case, as you have done. Definitely greatly admire what you accomplished with this. It is interesting that the three greatest sci-fi submarines were all designed by Harper Goff: the Nautilus, the Seaview, and the Proteus.
@qakeith11 ай бұрын
@@x15galmichelleevans I agree totally and I was going to try to do something round but I wanted to have the nice case. I did try to make the honeycomb on the base somewhere roundish. Thanks for the nice comments. Stay tuned as my latest project is the Nautilus!!!!!
@x15galmichelleevans11 ай бұрын
@@qakeith Yes, it is great that you that display case. Would be very difficult (and take up a lot of space!) to do some sort of round case. Looking forward to seeing what you have on the Nautilus. I have one as well that I have on the mantle above our fireplace. As many times as there has been some variation on the submarine in movies, the Disney version will always be the only proper manifestation of that beautiful vehicle.
Guys hollyweird cannot make good science fiction movies like this one, or any others, these are classics and have exilent special effects.

What a fantastic model that matches a fantastic movie. I wonder what it would be like remade with today special effects technology. I only hope they ge good actors to play the parts. No race swapping or messages. Just raw entertainment.

@x15galmichelleevans11 ай бұрын
Yes, that is correct, but they didn't have a proper way to deal with it in the movie version, so they just had the white corpuscles dissolve it (but even the dissolved bits would enlarge). In the book, Asimov did account for that, and brought the wreckage out with the micronauts.

@@lisamomon6793 Actually, it was written by Asimov because he didn't like the original concept, so he basically rewrote the same story from scratch, the way he wanted it to be, rather than what the screenwriters did the first time. I think the original movie and novelization was great. I felt that Asimov came off as sort of a spoilsport in writing the original over again, to suite his own vanity.. The original was the first and only novelization that Asimov ever wrote.
