What’s crazy about that renegade song is that Eminem did not write that song with Jay. He and Royce the 59 recorded that song first. Jay Z heard it and wanted to get on that track with Eminem. So actually, Jay Z kind of had an advantage by listening to Eminem versus first. he tried to do Eminem on a verse. The Eminem had already recorded. For me, current Eminem (in terms of quality art) he ain't beating Kendrick, maybe 1999-2012 eminem could, but not the one we got today (would love to being proven wrong by that slim shady album) Just because he was inspired of somebody else, don't mean he can't be considered as a legend. For example look at kanye and drake (we ain't talking about his ghostwriter allegations for somebody that want to go there), kanye was the main one in shaping the new sound of hip hop back in the late 2000's with 808 and artists like drake helped in cementing that poppish sound to be so popular back then. At the end of the day, is just music. There will be some people who has their own criteria for judging if someone is a 🐐

I think Takeover and Ether are both on the same level. Both are balanced, and there's not one better than the other. Both are disrespectful equally, however one has better disses and flow, the other one has better production, so therefore, 50/50. Keep in mind, Jay-Z has Reasonable Doubt and The Black Album, which are his 2 best projects at both having the 10/10 status, and his other albums are great, too. Em only has MMLP as his 10/10, and his other 2 albums from his first 3 album run aren't perfect at all. They're all, like, 7/10. Nas is better than Jay-Z tho.

People also overstate how hard he fell off, as he has a decent list of strong songs even on his worst albums (killshot, darkness, rap god). I love Jay Z, but let's be 100% real, his discography isn't the best. Don't get me twisted, it's definitely up there, but the same way 50 Cent is in a position where he doesn't have to rap for success anymore... Jay Z is in a MUCH better position for that to be true. Also coercion and underhanded threats might have played a crucial role. Because he is not extraordinary just an average hip hop artist. Honestly I don't trust his pen work (he has been called out before on the same things as Aubrey though the scale is smaller), he has had help from other artists and rappers (imagine who will try to refuse him), it's just that nobody tells on him.
