you were spot on in your analysis. Sting created Desert Rose and Cheb Mami (sang the Arabic portion, riffs and runs). So Faouzia covered it by making it her own rendition, singing both English and Arabic vocals, riffs and runs and changed the composition. she's singer, songwriter, and composer. she's native to both Arabic and English, French being her third. Putri probably thinks she's covering Faouzia as original singer, rather Putri covered of Faouzia's-cover. Faouzia is the only one that sang it the way you heard it here. I've heard Faouzia few years ago, live in her concert covering it the same way. This version is the best, because it's in a competition, and it's her favorite cover. on a different note, Faouzia sang her own song (RiP Love) the last week of the competition, she put it all on the stage. she added more Arabic percussion and a touch of gorgeous Spanish guitar.
