Stumbled upon this vid while looking for more Splawn info, and it's awesome to see another hardcore kid be so into gear. I had to sub. Deciding between a QR100 and a MB DC-10 to upgrade from a Jet City, and this vid helped. Cheers to you and happy new year!

I had a 2006 QR years ago. It had the Heyboer transformers and EL34s. It was quite a beast. More aggressive than my buddies 2010. My first Splawn was a modded Marshall 1987x with KT88s. Not as aggressive but thicker on the lows. Brad Noah from Disciple used an older QR with kt88s. Called it the ProMod. I got $1100 for my QR

With the Mesa stuff I noticed you talking about the Rectifiers. The problem with those is that because they have this thing where after the volume hits around 2, it essentially has reached its peak volume and afterwards it just adds compression to something that is already super compressed and saggy. If you want some monster volume from a high gain amp from Mesa, the Mark Series will absolutely level buildings without even breaking a sweat. Also question for next weeks video. Do you think that the price bubble that's happening right now will eventually chill out? Or will it just stay the same?

Although I'm not a rectifier guy at all, I think they really get better the bigger they are. You say that the triple have less low end and to me that's a great thing since they are so bass heavy and really on the looser side of the spectrum. It's easier to give more bass to an amp than trying to tighten it. They are also less fizzy and the midrange is more pronounced. Most people actually boost them and put EQ in the loop to tighten them and give them a mid bump.

04:21 i feel you on the BURIED ALIVE guitar tone. Sounds very raunchy. It was produced by Steve Evetts and you can hear a similar tone on TURMOIL's "the process of ...", and on GOD FORBID's "determination" and "gone forever" (but with more gain / metal sound).

@@voodoocustompickups2547 Yeah the lettering choices on the Diezel stuff is puzzling. I don't know why something so expensive would look so cheesy haha. A lot of people talk about the VTMs being ugly but I actually really like them. I think they have a brutish, military surplus look to them that matches the sound pretty well.

I’m having a hard time deciding on what boost to use. I have a m77 into a splawn quickrod. I find myself finding when the boost comes in its too compressed. What would you suggest as a nice boost that doesn’t compress the tone too much, cuts the mud but also maintains some of the amps characteristics.

As crazy as it might sound, I’ve had great luck using the Friedman BE OD. Not as a volume boost but a gain boost. Still maintains the Splawns characteristics and saturates it heavenly

@@Auen73 I guess it’s not much different from the guys that used to push a Marshall with a Tube Screamer or RAT. You don’t get the mid hump like you would with the BE OD. One day I’m gonna go for it and get a RAT style pedal. I’m thinking either the Greer Amps Gorilla Warfare or Wamplers new Ratsbane. I’m curious to here a RAT style through the Quick Rod

Hi Kyle. Great channel love all the amp demos. I have a question. Does an amps value affect your decision to use and keep it. I only ask as for metal music you could easily get a DSL, 6505, xxx and a dual rectifier all used for less than some of the high end amps and given the choice would you rather have four cheaper amps or one high end amp. Cheers.

Just a quick camera mention, you're slightly too close to the camera in this vid, you're not really in focus because you're too close for what the lens is designed for. Do a quick measurement based on what the lens says the minimum focus point is and just set the camera there so you're good. Taylor Danley tells me you're using Sony so the focus is incredible, just the distance from the camera. Digging the videos, thanks for sharing your musical journey Kyle \m/
@belligerentamateur
@belligerentamateur 3 жыл бұрын
It's the camera itself. I'm always this close with my A6000/Sigma. The A7 does not have good autofocus at this distance so I am going back to the A6000 for my close shots such as this.
@KPGuitarStudios
@KPGuitarStudios 3 жыл бұрын
@@belligerentamateur Really? That is full frame vs APS-C. The sensor is significantly different size but the lens perspective should be the same. You'd probably also have to crop the A7 to get the lens to not vignette. Weird man! Maybe it's best to just go with the a6000 and then get say a 6400 or 6600 as your main camera? It's kinda like amp trading... Except probably a lot less fun 😜 The lenses are killer though!
