Particle size distribution is one of seven characteristics that is important to consider when selecting a silica product for your chromatographic applications. As such, it is good to understand exactly what it is and how it impacts column performance so that the best product for the separation or purification is chosen.

What causes change in distribution profile when one has larger particles and their mean is different example the range for one is 1 to 9 and the other 0 to 5.5 and their mean are different

You can have the same median diameter (D50) for two different particle distributions. D50 simply means 50 % of the particle are larger than this number and 50 % are smaller. The ratio D90/D10 will give information about the particle distribution (the shape of the curve).
