This is just a color of the samples that represent Cu. EDXRF technique doesn’t require any gold sputtering on the sample surface.

the gold coating is done mostly on insulator and non conducting samples. It is to disperse the electron cloud that hovers over the sample and prevents further electrons to strike the sample. Gold coating can not be done for studying nanometer samples as the grain size of sputtered gold itself >10 nm. in that case Pt coating is done
