You talked about trees close to bat house that owls could perch on,but what about on top of the bat house?Any problems there?Any remedy?

Occasionally, a hawk or owl will perch on the bat house itself, but due to the wide open space they seem to avoid that most of the time preferring to work from trees with concealment. I did have a young hawk that got the idea a bat house we placed was for him, in that case I took 8d finish nails and drove them in about a 1/2 inch and let them stand up along the top edge of the bat house about ever inch. I painted around the nails, put it back up and the hawk got the idea. Sort of like giving the bat house a spiky hair do.

@@h4bats knew an old man that had problems with crows around his garden. He would build a perch for them about 8' tall and 1' wide of 2 1 x 2s then sandwich straight razor blades in between 1 x 2s. He said it did not take them long to get the idea.I have a tall one about 15-18' w/ pvc in a steel pipe w/ a hot fence charger wire on one side and ground on the other.Never saw an owl land on it,but looked up just in time to see it take off! This is in my chicken pen .

Seems odd that bats would like Ozzy Osbourne, if you know what I mean.
