I'm nothing if not inconsistent... or is that a double negative there? Either way, still waiting on Starlink so I can ditch this metered internet. Thanks for loving bats!

Radio frequency from my small pocket radio, while night fishing in Scotland once definitely seemed to attract them. I'm very sure more appeared when changing channels and the noise it makes made them come check it out I'm sure if you test it you will see what I mean lol 👍

Bats are curious creatures. That radio may have been making ultrasonic sounds that bats found "interesting" but that does not necessarily mean it is a good attractant. They will get bored and ignore it. Same applied for a camera flash, I have found that at night if I use a flash to take bat pictures, they will actually come toward me for a while and face the flash. But they soon begin to ignore it. It's just curiosity about something new. Same effect can apply to a sudden new bat house that appears on a pole that wasn't there yesterday, they will look at it to see what it is.

I have no excuses except Health, the economy and limited internet imposed on us beginning about mid 2020. Still waiting on Starlink.

Will a solitary bat live in a bat house. For the second summer I have a single bat that is living in my close table umbrella. I would like to build him a bat house if he will use it.

It is entirely possible that a single bat or a small group of bats take up in a bat house. It can take time and it depends on the specific conditions. If a bat house is not suitable as a "maternity colony roost", then it may be what we call a bachelor colony consisting of male and/or non-reproducing pups. Either way, they all are important and need a place to live. Thanks for loving bats!

If I put a bat box on my house will they move into my house? I found a few in my attic last week. I'm in north georgia!

If a space is available and bats find it suitable, they will move in. Nothing about a bat house attracts bats, they simply need a place to live, learn by exploring and when they find a home they will remember it and come back to use it when they need it. There is no known way to specifically attract bats. If your attic is already open and available, they will move into it. Bats don't chew, so excluding them is as simple as making sure any entry points are sealed and secure enough they can't pull or push things out of the way.

I live in MI near a lake and mosquitoes are horrible. I bought a bat house but realize my yard is shady. :( Any advice?

Try to place it so it receives sunlight as early in the morning as possible. Don't fret too much, even a bat house in a less than prime location and offer housing for what we call a bachelor colony which will consist of males and younger pups not reproducing yet. They will typically not gather in the same large numbers of a maternal colony and will be more transient moving around during the summer, but they will still eat bugs!
