I've never thought about it, but the distance from which enemies see you here is a lot more accurate compared to real life, you really have to hide. We're just so used to games that have reduced the vision cones to be so dramatically small.

There's an unofficial patch that fixes the A.I. shooting through the wall. Basically the 1.4 patch broke a few lines of code that supposedly prevent enemies from looking through the tent's VIS-areas (used to optimize the game so nothing renders through the tents). You can easily find it online, it has nothing to do with the difficulty.

Ctrytek stopped supporting or updating the game years ago. The final update made canvas tent walls transparent to the AI, and their guns. This was something intended to somehow facilitate team play, as i understand it, but it just about breaks the singleplayer game completely. Ctrytek [which is to say UbiSoft, who now own Crytek] does not care; it will not be fixed. A shame really, for its day this was a great game.

Apparently the AI shooting through tents was a bug introduced in the 1.4 patch, where they removed bullet piercing resistance from the canvas material for multiplayer and the singleplayer AI broke as an unintended side effect. GOG included a mod's fix for this in the last patch (June 1st, 2019).

I remember playing Far Cry for free with some Mcdonalds promotion, where everytime you died or loaded a level, you'd see the same McDonalds commercial. What I love about the AI is that the enemies take full advantage of cover. The 2D map will show their general direction but it won't show you exactly where they are unless you've already tagged them with your binoculars. Foliage will hide them to the point where they can get within 6 feet of you and all you can hear are their footsteps. It's incredibly stressful. If you're hiding behind a building, they'll slow down when they get to the other side of it and then slowly creep around to catch you by surprise. They'll also use grenades to flush you out.

I always remember my very first experience (impression) of this game. I came to a beach, where I could see just past a large cliff edge, a group of grunts hanging out around a jeep. I attempted to sneak in towards them... shortly following that I hear "Did you hear that?"... *pin pull*... *quiet thud*... *BOOM*. The AI threw a grenade at it's own jeep and killed all three bad guys. O_O The AI beat it'self, that's an accomplishment.

You're probably thinking of Far Cry 3, which was so successful that it was just copied and pasted. This first game was actually developed entirely by Crytek, and Far Cry 2 was a lot more hardcore, realistic and tactical.

This game could have been amazing with functional A.I. But it's basically an engine tech demo, in modern times. The missions are basically structured like an extremely less functional Deus Ex with all the RPG and depth removed

Harr darr The A.I wasn't that stupid it couldn't se you through the map or shoot you through the wall, the lastest patch broke it and made the game stupidly hard. For the time it came out ( 10 years ago ) it was a beast.
