The press and broadcasters aren't helping by trying to justify, in even the smallest way, the criminality we witnessed over the weekend. It had nothing to do with small boats or immigration. To conflate rioting with a debate about immigration is insulting.

How a majority of voters have for over a decade consistently backed promises to limit mass migration, yet nothing has been done whilst the political classes cling on to outdated asylum legislation and unaccountable foreign courts and committees who subvert any attempt to address the issue. How even the suggestion of any form of control or cap on immigration has consistently been silenced by a vocal, privileged minority who scream 'racism' and 'far right' in the absence of any real defence of open borders? It was a great day where we engaged with each other, learnt about each others lives and our backgrounds and shared a day enjoying British values and patriotism. A counter protest called us Nazis and Mainstream media branded us Far Right. That is a total miscarriage of terminology and ridiculously lazy journalism. People try to make their voices heard peacefully but the mainstream media and politicians don’t want to hear it. I mean, it's not completely separate. Some of us have been worried about this for decades - immigration has been a hot button issue for a very large portion of the populace (albeit not me, personally) pretty much constantly in that time, and it has never been seriously addressed by the government, indeed, if anything they have just been dismissed. When you ignore concerns of the populace consistently, _that's_ when a particularly nasty type of person takes advantage of the vacuum. They are then able to harness that into violence. Which is what we are seeing now. It's not a politician's job to treat the world as they want it to be - they have to treat it as it actually is, and then work from there to improve it. When you listen to or read many interviews with the people at these demonstrations which turn feral, there are clearly plenty of people there who can't meaningfully be labelled far right or thugs. And yet there they are, rubbing shoulders with people who are both pretty extreme and violent. Why is that? It's because there has been a serious failure at the macro level.
