Following on from versions 1 and 2 of the H-King Avro Lancaster, this version 3 represents the lightest and most well-mannered version yet.
The V3 Lancaster is designed to be the most lightly loaded version of this classic model and therefore the best performing, it is a 'Lightweight, Heavy Bomber', that's hand launch-ready right out of the box. A differential thrust set-up for added yaw control and far more realistic flight performance is the key recommendation to get the very best out of the model, but she'll happily fly on throttle, elevator, and aileron control alone. The V3 Lancaster can now achieve up to 7 minutes flight time on a 1400mAh 3S, but still has the option of an electric retractable undercarriage for those that wish to have it. Weight over the earlier versions has been further saved by removing the opening bomb-bay door mechanism and servo, complete removal of the undercarriage, and removal of the tailwheel steering servo. This lighter weight makes hand launching a simple and trouble-free affair, slow, and realistic scale flight is greatly improved for those low, slow bombing passes, and less power is required meaning greater flight times.
The Lancaster was a British WWll heavy bomber that was designed and manufactured by the Avro Company in England. The Lancaster was powered by four Rolls-Royce Merlin engines and first saw service in 1942 and has become one of the most famous aircraft of WW2. It was at the core of RAF's Bomber commands strategic bombing offensive over Europe and it was the main aircraft for the night-time bombing campaigns that followed. The HobbyKing V3 has been finished in a new, authentic color scheme which depicts 619 Squadrons "Dumbo" PG-D aircraft that operated from RAF Strubby, Lincolnshire, during 1943-45.
The fully molded EPO foam "Plug N Fly" Lancaster V3 comes pre-painted with scale panel lines, the decals are factory applied, motors and ESC's are pre-wired and installed, the elevator and aileron servos are also pre-installed. Assembly is very straightforward, the canopy, gun turrets, and .303 machine guns need to be fitted, servo pushrods installed, and the tailplane needs gluing in place. Scale 3 blade propellers with spinners and molded cowlings finish off the Lancaster's stunning scale detail which makes this a practical, must-have model for any scale or warbird enthusiast. Battery and radio access is very easy through the bomb-bay doors and these are held closed while flying with some strong permanent magnets. The two-piece wing simply slides onto the wing joining spars and is held in place with two screws. However at 1320mm, the Lancaster is very easy to transport in one piece, so if you wish, the wing can be glued in place too for extra security.
Features:
• Plug N Fly, just add receiver and flight battery
• Thin plastic gear door 'skid plates' pre-installed for belly landing operations
• Fully molded EPO airframe with scale panel lines
• Detailed graphics and finish in authentic Bomber Command 619 Sqd "Dumbo" color scheme
• Lightweight out of the box set-up for slow, scale, realistic flying
• Intended for use with differential thrust set-up via modern radio transmitters for yaw control
• Option for fitting electric servoless retracts
Specs:
Wingspan: 1320mm
Length: 900mm
Flying Weight: 1065g (depending on set-up)
Motor: 4 x 2627-1500KV brushless
ESC: 4 x 15A brushess (non-UBEC)
Servo: 3 x 9g
Propellers: 2 x Std 6x4, 2 x Reverse 6x4
Required:
4~6ch transmitter and receiver
3S 1300~2200mAh (25C or greater) LiPo battery
Suitable LiPo charger
Optional Accessories:
Electric servoless retracts
9g steerable tailwheel servo

What to tell about this? Well not much. I really did my best and wasnt expecting this to happen at the end. But crashes happens no matter what. Like always its really hard to say what happened here. Maybe it was my mistake, maybe it was tip stall, maybe it was differential thrust, maybe it was signal loss, maybe it was the position of the moon ;-) At the end the gravity was stronger. If we have learned something from this then its OK. Nevertheless it was still great flight and we did have good time filming it. Maybe at the end I will fix it and full throttle all over again. I wish you all great weekend and happy landings. At least a little better then mine here ;-) Big salute from Slovenia, Pilot Robert

You have done some incredible work fixing planes before and I think you could do it all over again. No question. She might not be the world's greatest flyer she could even be a hangar Queen with a little paint - maybe all black stealth paint and then you won't see the glue 😁

We had a sports teacher, Mr Les Brown, who was a tail-gunner on Lancasters..Mad from PTSD but a great guy. He said Lancs would do 5 or 6 tip stalls during 1 single flight, but the slower scale gave the pilot time to respond.. Usually.. So, a scale crash! Never mind, realistic at the end! Big salute as ever from London.

When you slowed down on that last turn I saw that coming 🙈 differential thrust when your going slow actually makes tip stalling worse sadly. An iconic warbird that looked so amazing in the air, my advice glue it back together, turn off differential thrust, mix rudder to aileron and have no flapperons. I am sure everyone would love to see you have another go 😁👍 I certainly do 👌

Yep never used diff thrust or flaperons and never will. Didn't realize it had those features. Flaperons are the last thing I'd use with a subject like this. The model appears to have CR props also, which should help. I regularly use rudder mix, and it's amazing how little it takes to do the job.

I have the privilege since 2003 to be flying a SuperMiss 1.4 meter version from Scorpio (Italian kit), mine has a center servo under the main wing for alerions. Luckily when I got the plane I purchased an extra kit, so if this old lady ever has issues I have spare parts. Runs with a Axi brushless with a 40amp Esc, 3cell 11.v 2500mAh. Often have 15 to 18 min flight times before my 3.5volt alarm sounds. This is such a amazing plane, graceful flyer yet, able to do slow rolls with adequate pitch up, and loops. Floats in on landings like a feather. Recently converted from, a JR crystal radio to Dx6e and new 4 channel Rx. I have other planes and gliders in my RC inventory, but the Supermiss is treasure, always get comments at the field from other flyers that love the old style build and coverings. Poetry in motion.

To me it looked like the roll rate increased just before the right hand aileron control input ... If so, maybe it did in fact tip stall prior to the aileron control input, which is clearly seen in the video as you mention. @Robert, what really surprise me is, that you mixed in flaperons moving down! Activating flaperons this way gives the wing "wash-in", which is the recipe for encountering a tip stall! "Wash-out" (ailerons up) instead would have decreased the risk of tip stall. This way you can fly even slower for landing. That's what we do on larger flapped sail planes to land slow with out tip stalling. What I don't know is if you had the flaperon mix activated for landing ...?

Didn't look too slow to me either - have to wonder a bit about the orange receiver - because of past experience, I don't trust them - seemed like you lost radio contact more that it seemed like it simply "tip stalled". Anyway, sorry you lost your plane - it was flying so beautifully.

I am not a huge fan of this plane however I thank you for your honesty and sometimes no matter how hard we try some planes do not fly well.

Excellent stability and hardly any skidding with rudder alone, but when it banks, it drops like a rock. But what really gets me is that you did not even look for little dead airmen.

I’m sorry to see the crash after a nice flight. Well, it happens to us all when we least expect it.

Hello Captain Petrincic! That Lancaster was beautiful to watch on the skies! Very realistic model but like you said, that model demands a lot of concentration to don't fall into a wing tip stall. It was fun to watch even when she was falling to the grounds' fate. Thank you Avro Lancaster for your service and May the Force be with You. Thanks for sharing all your experiences. Happy landings. :)

You was right pilot Robert Dis is something.... Remember all airplanes have an expiration date we just don't know when it is... I didn't think you were going too slow I think you ran out of power my opinion.... We finally got to see a wreck unfortunately if it's going to happen and it is inevitable I definitely want to see it... Thank you Captain Blaz for the great video work and a big salute from Virginia Beach USA

We had the same problem but we fixed the airplane after the crash. Its not a glider plane you have to keep the speed for sure but it looks really good

You won't believe how often that has happened to me - just on the last turn before landing, every time at the same spot hey! Sorry for your loss, but hey, that's the RC pilot's life... Where I live we get to see the real one fly over ever so often during the summer, one of only two flying in the world still flying. The four engines are pure music hey!
