Fun fact: back when MMPR was planned to be only one season Rita and her possy would’ve been sealed away back in the dumpster. This decision was late enough that some magazines around the time gave the original synopsis of the ending and they shot footage of the end. This footage can even be seen in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Official Fan Club Video but reframed under the context of Zordon sealing Rita away 10,000 years in the past

For my own personal preference, I'd like to see Abaranger vs. Dino Thunder, Dekaranger vs. SPD, or Magiranger vs. Mystic Force, since those are the PR seasons I have the biggest connection with, outside of MMPR. In the case of Abaranger and Dino Thunder, there would certainly be enough there to talk about, since the two series go in very different directions with the footage, especially when it comes to their extra Rangers. For other two series matches, my understanding is that the individual episodes are fairly similar, especially early on. There are differences in the overall stories, though, which could make for a fun ride.

I think the best place for one to one is Time force/ Timeranger or Wild Force/ Gaoranger. These series use alot of the same footage but the stories drift from one another in slight ways that might make us guess more on which season will win rather then the Zyuranger curb stomp

I mean, at the very least you could say that Zyuranger went out on the same notes it's been playing this whole time: A whole lot of nothing character-wise for the heroes and Bandora and co carrying the show. My God it's really unbelievable just how much better Bandora's gang is than Rita's. They cut so much of what makes those guys great. This has been a lot of fun and I don't think I would have ever got around to watching the original version without it - which I quite enjoyed doing too, so thanks MistareFusion.

Out of curiosity, how close would you want a comparison series to be? Some Power Rangers series are decently close adaptations...and some are massively different. Timeranger and Power Rangers: Time Force would make for something decently close, but with enough changes to be interesting. Both are series people ended up enjoying. Go-Onger and Power Rangers RPM has such a tonal difference, it would make for a fascinating experience. Definitely would give Power Rangers more of a fighting chance, and I think the changes do make for a great discussion point. Shinkenger and Power Rangers Samurai is close, but...context and quality wise it changes a lot. That said, I don't think it'd be much of a fight between the two. Just a few examples that came to mind.

I wish Zyuranger had collected every kid-of-the-week from the entire season to be present for the Zyurangers departing. All 40-ish kids of the week were waiving goodbye, like a class at school waiving goodbye to a teacher who's leaving, while also serving as an appropiate cameo for the end of the season, similar to how Tommy makes his finale-requisite cameo.

I am glad that my spreadsheet of Dairenger Doom has come in handy, though I am disappointed there is no way to continue the series. Season 2 for its faults is a classic and worthy of study... The next one that might be reasonable to cover would be Zeo, but I doubt any of the later seasons have the cultural cachet of these earlier ones and so may not be as popular. I'm still watching In Space for the first time, having grown out of it before that show came on. That is a very fun season and so much better than I expected and an amazing step up from Turbo.

This is a bit of an out there suggestion but maybe you could do B-Fighter vs Big Bad Beetleborgs. They’re vastly different shows so it would be interesting to see how that works out. I know Spielban and Metalder vs VR Troopers would be too complicated of a process to ask for that. If not beetles, I would like to see Gingaman vs Lost Galaxy for similar reasons.

Both versions of the Zyuranger finale and the Power Rangers (soft) finale were great. But Zyuranger wins it for me because of the return of Bandora's Song with all the villains singing it on the Flying Castle. Overall a wonderful insight on both the Japanese and American shows.

Given your taste in superheroes & sci-fi, I’d love to see you try a Megaranger vs In Space. Megaranger was a lot of fun doing the teenage superhero angle and In Space is where PWR slowly started getting darker and complexed, which sadly ceased after Wild Force with small few exceptions like RPM & SPD. I also wouldn’t mind seeing more passion projects like your Anne Frank vid and maybe even something Star Wars related, mostly because I recently got into the Thrawn trilogy just to see why the character of Mara Jade is so beloved by fans.

Abaranger vs Dino Thunder Shinkenger vs Samurai Or maybe even Gingaman vs Lost Galaxy All three match ups to me have the most interesting comparisons to make With Abaranger, they got away with a lot for a family show in 2003 Japanese Television standards Shinkenger vs Samurai could bring discussion on how telling the same story with a different cultural context brings about a lot of problems in adaptation And Gingaman vs Lost Galaxy because of how they managed to turn a nature themed show into a Space Fantasy show and actually make it work

I'd say that Doomsday suffers from the inverse of the very same problem that "Day of the Dumpster" benefited from: It had an entirely different goal than its Zyuranger counterpart. As you said back in Episode 1, Power Rangers had a better self-contained story because its goal was to establish an entirely new franchise, not just set up a new status quo for the 16th season running, and as a result, told a more complete and compact episodic adventure. Here, Zyuranger's objective was to draw this season's story to a close, and because of that, all loose ends had to be tied up, and the story needed to pull out all the stops. Doomsday, on the other hand, was only intended to be Episode 40 in a long-standing series. I'd say that Countdown to Destruction is the _true_ finale to the Zordon Era of Power Rangers, and as far as "tying up loose ends" and "pulling out all the stops" are concerned, that episode absolutely, 100% knocks it out of the park. To this day, it is one of the most iconic and popular episodes in the entire series. But even if you only look at Mighty Morphin, I'd say that Hogday Afternoon still does a much better job of being a finale than Doomsday, seeing as the main conflict of the time (undoing the age regression) was wrapped up, and the Command Center was destroyed, telegraphing to the kids that a major change in the status quo was coming. Now sure, Doomsday was originally _supposed_ to be the season finale, but as Fusion said last time, "It really doesn't matter. All that matters is what we get." So I'd say that Power Rangers' last-minute decision to rewrite the episode so that it isn't an ending after all actually saved their butts in the end.

Definitely have always felt that the most compelling parts of Zyuranger were always the villains. Bandora might just be the best Sentai villain we've ever had. I love that the finale takes some time to give her a proper emotional ending AND a goofy cartoon ending at the same time. Also, as an avid Sentai fan, I would prefer BY FAR if you tackled ATLA after this instead of watching hundreds of episodes of shows you don’t really care for.

Anything from lightspeed rescue onwards would fit the format as far as I know, some interesting ones would be wild force/gao ranger jungle fury/ geki ranger and samurai/shinkanger as they all lean heavily on their source when it came to early parts of the adaptation process, another wild card I could suggest would maybe be "kamen rider" and kamen rider ryuki as the toku is popular and the adaptation is known of in the community but not talked about all that much

For the continuation of the tokusatsu works, my votes go to Megaranger/In Space (though not 1:1 in adaptation, they are still great series to watch and compare), Timeranger/Time Force (both fantastic and closer to 1:1 with some differences), Abaranger/Dino Thunder, and Dekaranger/SPD. Zeo vs Ohranger would be my suggestion. The way they incorporate not just the fight footage, but also the entire set of villians is intriguing. Plus, since it is the first season after MMPR, there is a lot of references to it and nostalgia to be had for you. I appreciate you doing these, as a fan of both MMPR and Zyuranger. In regards to which season would be more of a direct one-to-one adaptation, I'm kinda thinking that we would need to jump all the way up to Lightspeed Rescue and GoGo V. The thing about Zeo through In Space is that, while they DO use a lot more sentai footage than seasons 2 and 3 of MMPR, they're still continuing on the stories from the previous seasons. Full disclosure here, I've never watched the Sentai series in their entirety, but I HAVE watched all of Pomelo Retro's videos on the subject, in which he compares the seasons as a whole, rather than by individual episodes. Zeo/Turbo/Space have zippity-doo-dah in common with their Sentai counterparts. Lost Galaxy IS the first season to reset the status quo, but it still has a lot of holdovers from the previous season and the theme is also completely divorced from Gingaman. Lightspeed Rescue is the first season in which they give a more direct adaptation, and the following seasons definitely seemed to follow suit.

Definitely the different places these shows hold in their respective series' leads to some interesting differences in perspective. Power Rangers has never *not* had the mid-season sixth ranger, but (aside from some debatable kinda-sorta's) Zyuranger was the first season to start that trend, and the first couple sentai didn't even have a giant robot, and it took a good few years to start adding multiple that combine together, stuff that seems "baseline" for PR from the start. I do have a recommendation, also; not for particular favourite seasons of mine, but an adaptation I think is really kinda fascinating. On one hand, Power Rangers In Space couldn't have a more different overarching plot and setting to Megaranger (one is Star Trek for babies, the other is...well, kinda Last Starfighter for babies, I guess; one is the culmination to a multi-year ongoing soap opera, the other is a standalone show), but a lot of the episode plots are adapted almost beat for beat, with some real acrobatics to fit them into their new context. Like, the Power Rangers are supposed to be on a space adventure, but since Megaranger takes place in a high school, sometimes they'll zoom back to earth to attend class in the middle of it, goofy stuff like that. Anyway that Sailor Moon tokusatsu does seem like exactly your thing; this might just be the very specific social circles I hang out in, but a lot of people have told me it's their favourite version flat-out.

Mighty Morphin Zyurangers has been a very interesting comparison series. I liked how you looked at both shows in a critical, but objective way. It was fun to see how you dissected how Saban fooled us 90s kids with clever use of footage from a Japanese show. Its kind of like watching a magician's tricks get exposed. So thank you for this extensive comparison series. As for the future; I totally understand you don't want to do Dairanger/Kakuranger vs MMPR comparisons, for all the reasons you have listed. But here are a few Sentai to PR shows you might enjoy doing: * Ohranger vs Power Rangers Zeo: This is the first show to introduce the annual switching of the suits and villains. This is probably done so Saban could lean more heavily to the Sentai footage. It might give some good comparisons, but I found both Zeo and Ohranger to be mildly entertaining at best. * Carranger vs Power Rangers Turbo: On one side, you have a self-parody of Super Sentai vs a series that does not know what it wants to be; a serious continuation of Zeo or something just a silly as Carranger. * Gingaman vs Power Rangers Lost Galaxy: This is one I really would like to see. Gingaman is a fairytale Sentai comparable to Zyuranger, in which the rangers are warriors from a magical isolated forest tribe who fight against an army of evil space pirates. Lost Galaxy, on the other hand, is a space opera where humanity sends a space colony on a trip to find a new habitable world. Said space colony is frequently harassed by the insectoid army of Scorpius and Trakeena. Despite the completely different premises, Lost Galaxy still copies a lot of story elements from Gingaman. Even when they don't make sense. (The Lights of Orion come to mind) I therefore think "Gingaman Lost Galaxy" would make for an entertaining comparison series. I hope this helps.

I recall Lost Galaxy concentrated most of its direct adaptations in the first part of the series, whereas In Space flipflopped a lot between doing scene-for-scene Megaranger remakes and doing its own thing entirely. It could be interesting to see how much In Space was fighting the need to recycle a Sentai show full of high school sitcom plots at a point when Power Rangers was trying to branch away from that!

This has been an interesting and balanced comparison season. Thank you for making it, I've really enjoyed it. Zyuranger is a fun season. It's not the greatest Sentai but it's certainly worth a watch for both MMPR Season 1 fans and Sentai fans. MMPR Season 1 is interesting to see how Power Rangers started its main run and as a time capsule of 1990's pop culture and nostalgia. But comparing them both side by side is the sign of a dedicated fan! It's possible to enjoy both. No reason to favour one over the other. Both Power Rangers and Super Sentai are fun shows with a lot to offer. Sure, they each have good and bad seasons, but they're a treasure trove of entertainment. I'd be interested in seeing comparisons of Timeranger vs Time Force (both excellent seasons), Go-Onger vs RPM (poor Sentai adapted into great Power Rangers) or Gokaiger vs Super Ultra Hyper Uber Ultimate Omega Mega Force (great Sentai flushed down a toilet to make a Power Rangers adaptation).

If you want a comparison of two shows that are quite similar and want to explore the finer details, I would suggest a Timeranger/Timeforce comparison. If you want to look at and Sentai and Rangers that are going for two completely different tones, I would suggest Go-onger/RPM. This is slightly more relevant now as the Red Ranger from Go-Onger has just reprised his role this week in the current Sentai. As a middle ground, I would say Boukenger/Operation Overdrive. They are quite different but they serve similar purposes both being Aniversy seasons. 30th for Sentai and 15th for PR

With regards to future seasons to look at on an episode by episode, my heart says Lightspeed rescue because that's the one I loved as a kid, and there are some interesting notes to discuss, most notably with the 6th ranger. But if I had to name a best series to cover, I'd say it's Go-Onger and RPM, because they are very different tonally. To use batman as a comparison, Go-Onger is the Adam West Batman of Super Sentai, while RPM is the Batman the Animated series of Power Rangers.And while I don't know how Go-Onger is regarded in Sentai circles, RPM comes highly regarded in the Rangers community Looking forward to the Sailor Moon video/videos, and the potential Avatar Dissection

I think a 3 partner for Doomsday with Billy using those dimensional spires from Green Candle to backdoor into wherever Rita had trapped the Zords would've been better. Goldar still ambushes them at Billy's garage, and one the teleporters are fixed they escape to that dimension.

Good video man. I think this is a great way to stop the series, but I do kind of hope you continue somewhere down the line with some of the later seasons if you're interested. Personally, I'd like to see a comparison between Time Force and Time Ranger, even though their plots and characterizations are very similar. However, that could make for an even more interesting video, seeing you overcome the challenge of finding the subtleties in nuances that make one more well-executed than the other. I got to say that after doing a second binge watch of the Zyuranger sentai, I found that I like the preceding season Chojin Sentai Jetman to be a much better super sentai.

The annoying part about the Zord plot hole is that the MMPR writers could easily have done a toned-down version of the Zyuranger plot even within their restrictions regarding budget, costumes, footage, etc. All they had to do was say that Rita had the Zords trapped in the Dark Dimension and the Rangers (without their powers) have to go in there and smash a crystal or something to free them. They already had the Dark Dimension set from "The Green Candle" (which was re-used in Season 2 as well, so it was definitely still available) and they could easily have had the unmorphed Rangers fight Goldar and a bunch of Putties there. They could even have included Tommy, since they had JDF already lined up to appear in this episode, and if the others don't have their powers due to the loss of the Zords, he's just as capable of helping as the main five. None of this would have been particularly difficult or expensive to film or edit, even by Season 1 standards, and it would have made far more sense in terms of plot consistency than the nonsense US audiences actually received.

I think some good series to do in this format would be _GaoRanger_ to _Wild Force_ since they're pretty similar story-wise but also have enough differences to warrant the comparisons. _TimeRanger_ to _Time Force_ would be also be good ones for similar reasons. Also _Gingaman_ to _Lost Galaxy_ for the vastly different settings. And _Go-Onger_ to _RPM_ are so tonally different comparing them would be a trip.

Goseiger vs mega force would definitely be interesting. With them constantly having to squeeze arcs into single episodes due to having half the episode count of goseiger.

What about series overall comparisons? Basically taking two shows with the same footage, and comparing them in different categories. Rangers vs. Rangers, Villains vs. Villains, Side Characters vs. Side Characters, Action vs. Action, Visuals vs. Visuals, Music vs. Music, and most importantly, Story vs. Story.

Turbo vs Carranger goes back to the episode to episode comparison, and will break your sanity. My personal fav is comparing Wild Force/Gaoranger. Which I definitely know doesn't jump around (except ep 4 of WF) as much as MMPR2

A clear one is Power Rangers Samurai with Samurai Sentai Shinkenger. Since Samurai is Saban's attempt to directly adapt a Sentai series. It's also the return of Power Rangers from the Disney era. And I think I'd be a good fit for the format.

I think Mirai Sentai Timeranger would be perfect for you! Since it and Time Force are much closer than mmpr since it mostly adapts by working with the footage rather than against it, they straight adapt up entire major plot points from timeranger while also doing somethings wildy different at the same time. This makes it perfect for comparison.

Car Ranger Vs. Power Rangers Turbo. Car Ranger is a parody of Sentai that pokes fun of the tropes, while Power Rangers tried to use the source material and make something serious out of it. There are the rumors that one saved sentai while the other one almost got the other cancelled due to ratings dropping.

Actually, those rumors weren't true at all. Turbo didn't almost kill the franchise, it performed reasonably well, but with the ratings lowering, or something around those lines, they had enough for one more season where they went all out.

Hello there, Mistare, my man! First time here. Additional facts about Dai (Great) Satan: Although he was killed by Ultimate Daizyujin (Great Beast God) in 1993, he returned in the 4 Week Continuous Super Sentai Strongest Battle 26 years later in 2019. Rita's (Nana Asakawa) plan was to make Super Sentai Teams fighting and hating against each other in order to revive Dai Satan and upgraded into Ultimate Dai Satan. The battleground was in planet Nemesis. The only mecha that appeared was GokaiGalleon, in which it will later be destroyed in Kaizoku Sentai Ten Gokaiger 2 years later. What killed him was the Oddball Team's combined finishing attacks. No Ultimate Daizyujin reprise, which was a bummer. Sadly, neither the ZyuRangers, nor their successors the AbaRangers and the Kyoryugers, did appeared in the Bloody Battle Royale. I want you to make Mighty Morphin' DaiRangers next! Thanks a lot! :)

My vote is Time Force. The Power Rangers story is really good (compared to other seasons). My only gripe is not enough time travel outside of the jump between the future and the past. Actually the more I think about it, how cool would it have been for Time Force to have been an anniversary season. The villains are criminals who time travel for their own selfish means, but then certain villains target previous Rangers teams. Then you have the Time Force PR showing up for the assist of that time period's PR team.

I'd love to see a comparison of Zeo and Ohranger, In Space and Megaranger, Lost Galaxy and Gingaman, and finally Time Force and Timeranger, those are the ones that I think would be the most interesting to compare and contrast. Ohranger and Zeo is interesting because of the magic vs technology being flipped from the mighty morphin days, Megaranger and In Space because of how vastly different the themes of each show can be (the same goes for Gingaman and Lost Galaxy), and time force and timeranger because of how vastly similar and yet somehow different in small or big ways each series are compared with each other.

I think all seasons from Lightspeed Rescue (number 8) till RPM (17) would fit this format. Even later seasons could use it except for maybe Cosmic Fury and Super Mega Force because they are just using fighting footage. (and any fan knows Super Mega Force is only Fight Footage)

Okay so some intriguing series in my opinion Megaranger vs In Space. Arguably the most story heavy Power Rangers series vs a somewhat silly video game sentai (though iirc the finale is mostly original for In Space) Dekaranger vs SPD. Both are pretty similar, PR changes the villain. Shinkenger vs Samurai. One where Power Rangers actively tries to 1to1 adapt to.... middling results Timeranger vs Time Force is something I would be intrigued to see as well.

When I was a kid I so wanted Lokar to be a big deal and have lore. I still do. I heard there might be a power rangers reboot and I hope Lokar is important in it. Like they replaced Rita with a bigger threat in Lord Zed, but Lokar was always there as Rita's back up. He should have come in instead.

I think Timeranger would be good if you'd rather do the seasons out of order. It's got pretty interesting takes between shows, while at the same time being pretty close in overall plot. There would probably be a lot of ties though.

I feel the next best choice is Zeo. It adapts my personal least favorite season ohranger. Then lost galaxy would be fun seeing how they adapted a nature based sentai into a space opera. Timeforce and timeranger are a no brainer. That's my list of what i want ti see

I previously responded by suggesting comparing Ohranger to Zeo. However, now I'm thinking that Lost Galaxy and Gingaman would work best simply because their whole storytelling approach changed. When you think about it, it's the first season that gave season long arcs to all of the characters, not just red, and these seasons' themes could not be any more different. I would love for you to analyze how Power Rangers took bits and pieces from the source material, as well as what was omitted versus kept in. And I feel that this is the first season since S1 that really followed the five-man band formula in both series. Due to cast changeover over time that concept got muddied, but Lost Galaxy firmly went back to this team setup. You can argue that turbo part 2 did that, but they literally hit you over the head with this in LG.

You could always give Voltron Defender of the Universe, and Beast King Golion and Armored Fleet Dairugger XV a try! No nostalgia for you, but they would be interesting comparison pieces to "delv" into! Their are some pretty big differences with those shows.

I will be honest. If this is the last power ranger, sentai comparison video ever I will be sad. I loved these and I loved seeing the ways Power Rangers adapted footage. HOwever, the reason I like MistareFusion is because they are clearly passionate. Regardless if I agree with them or not, regardless if I like what they are talking about or not they are clearly loving what they talk about. Thats why I watched them for many years. If, making these videos would make them unhappy? Id honestly rather deal with my own melancholy than make them do stuff they don't want. It would make the videos lose that special something. Im happy that this video series was made. And whatever is next Ill gladly follow on the ride.

Pretty much anything after MMPR/Kakuranger would work perfectly, so if you want to make this an on going thing I'd start with Zeo VS Ohranger
