FAREWELL to a REAL ONE | Gohan vs Cell and Goku's Sacrifice!!!

"Time passes after the events of the Namek Arc and everyone goes on with their lives. The peace ends abruptly when Frieza, now a cyborg, arrives to exact his revenge for his defeat. Before the Z-Fighters can confront him, a mysterious teenager named Trunks intercepts and easily beats him, revealing he too is a Super Saiyan. After Goku arrives back on Earth, Trunks reveals he's from the future and that a major threat is on the horizon in the form of androids that will kill the Z-Warriors and decimate the Earth. Goku won't even be able to help as he dies from a disease before their arrival though Trunks has brought a cure to prevent such a fate. With this, the Z-Warriors get to work training in the hope to counteract the threat. But there turns out to be some unexpected surprises that even Trunks was unaware of leading the Z-Warriors to face their greatest threat yet."

17. Super Perfect Cell regenerated away from Earth. Decided to land back down and do a Frieza at the Z Fighters out of revenge instead of nuking Earth from space and being done with it. He made the mistake of spectacle TWICE

Another fumble, yet to occur, is Vegeta charging in on Super Perfect Cell. Thus endangering his own life, causing Gohan to save him and sacrifice his arm. Before this moment, Gohan was HAPPY Cell came back so he could wash him himself. I believe SSJ2 Gohan would have won vs Super Perfecf Green handily.

Gohan certainly would have won without any assistance. This is why Vegeta apologizes to him. He has his first emotional outburst on behalf of someone else and makes an unwise move, something he'd berated Trunks for earlier on, and something he'd ironically witnessed Gohan do on Namek but never understood the reasoning behind. This causes him to become a liability on the battlefield -- something he's literally killed others for becoming -- which results in Gohan losing half his power to save him. That, and he knows Perfect Green is all his fault to begin with. Vegeta's backwards character progression gets rectified at the worst possivle moment for everyone on the planet, and he knows everyone is about to pay the cost for it.

I'm only just now realizing that technically, Dr. Gero won. He got exactly what he wanted, Son Goku in a body bag. Sure it was in a ridiculously roundabout way, and it was only temporary, but Cell did complete his primary function in the end.

Some amendments to the fumble list. -1 fumble: The Briefs removing the bomb is actually a W because assuming 16s bomb is similar to Cell’s self destruct, Cell might’ve survived and regenerated as Super Cell, meanwhile the entirety of the Z fighters would have been wiped out in the blast, including Gohan, their best option. 16 blowing up is an easy Cell W -1 fumble from sirmidnight2039 Goku could only take the medicine after the virus kicked in. Trunks specifically mentions this to Goku when he gave it to him. So the virus kicking in during the fight was just bad luck. +1 fumble: The Z fighters getting drunk and sleeping in while the androids are actively hunting them down, leaving piccolo alone to get ambushed. They could have spent that time relocating Goku, looking for Cell, strategizing, literally anything, but they choose to party while the world is at stake. +1 Fumble: Android 17 choosing to square up with Cell instead of running like he was advised to by 16. If 18 gets a point for this, 17 does, too. +1 fumble: Tien choosing to do nothing against imperfect cell when he could have pushed his wig back with the Neo Tri beam like he did semi perfect cell. +1 fumble: 16 resting on that bomb when he could have used it to save 17 or 18 at any time and likely would have stopped cell dead in his tracks. If it was truly powerful enough to nuke perfect cell, his prior forms didn’t stand a chance. +1 fumble: Goku letting Vegeta and Trunks go into the time chamber 1st. Goku and Gohan managed to completely surpass what Vegeta achieved in less time because they worked together. Had they gone first, Goku could have easily packed up Semi Perfect cell, and even if he somehow fumbled the way Vegeta did, Gohan could pack up Perfect Cell. Hell, truth be told, Goku didn’t even need to ask for Vegeta’s help. Final total: 20 Fumbles, one for each of Dr. Gero’s Androids (not counting cell and 21)

-1 fumble: the medicine that Goku didn't take was not a fumble but rather was unfortunate timing as the medicine could only work when the symptoms/actual virus showed up. Had he taken the medicine before the virus started acting up, it would have done absolutely nothing and would have just bit the dust when the virus actually showed up with no perks to get him back up on his feet. matter of fact ircc, Trunks told Goku Specifically to take the medicine only when the virus starts taking effect to make the medicine effective.

Trunks explicitly said to only take the medicine once the symptoms appeared, as it was a cure not a preventative medicine so him not taking it wasn’t really a mistake. The major mistake I see is that he didn’t have the medicine on him at all times and was fighting in super saiyan.

I'll never forget the first time I watched Gohan's breakdown after Big Green confirmed that Goku's ki was gone. That "DADDDDDDDDDDDDDYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!" was intense. Seriously, we saw the timid Gohan become the Z version of 'Beast' who demolished all of the Cell Jrs. along with Perfect Cell but then told his Pops to mind his business when he wanted to have fun with his food but then he reverts back to being the emotional preteen when he realizes that he screwed up. Gohan crying here reminds me of Goku reuniting with Grandpa Gohan during their fight at Baba's Palace. Moments like that remind us that despite the incredible feats of strength; both Goku and Gohan were just kids at those points in time.

When Gohan went Super Saiyan 2, he literally had a psychotic break. He wasn't Gohan anymore. He was gone. I can't blame him for playing with his food. Goku could've killed Frieza immediately, but instead endangered the lives of everyone still on the planet with no backup plan. King Kai didn't know if Guru could've really been brought back. Like father, like son.

@leopold43 Yeah in the Japanese dub you hear their oozaru screams while powering up often. You probably knew that but if you didn't it's a cool tidbit. Gohan definitely lost control, but it didn't matter. He got what he wanted in the end. He told Cell he was happy he came back because he wanted to kill him with his own hands, completely overcoming the sadness of losing his dad. Then Vegeta has to fuck it all up like he did the entire arc. I love Vegeta but his ego was just way too damn prevalent in this arc. His only redemption was giving Gohan the distraction to let out his full power, but that was Gohan's W all the way. I mean in the manga all Cell does is turn his head, he doesn't like, fall over how it looks in the anime. Just the fact that looking away was enough to lose to Gohan shows that he was still weaker than damaged Gohan. I think he would've won anyway, but they would've had to scramble to get the dragon balls since if he'd let out all his power and slipped even a tiny bit then it could be minutes until the planet explodes, Cell regenerates and everyone's dead. That beam clash is so iconic and so well done in the anime, showing Gohan's doubts, how he's holding back trying not to damage the planet and that badass walking with the Kamehameha. Absolute peak anime moment to me, nothing tops it. Woah, lol, pretty drunk. I didn't realize I wrote so much.

9:18. You forgot to add Trunks. Trunks had more than enough power to beat Semi Cell but instead of OTK, FTW or a few punch kill Trunks kept knocking Semi Cell like a rag doll. Edit. 16 vs Imperfect Cell. Instead of taking 16's tip both 17 and 18 kept kicking the bush. So Cell became Semi Cell. Tien vs Semi Cell. Instead of talking Tien's advice and 16's advice dumb 18 kept standing there like a dumb cow. If she took both of their advice she wouldn't gotten at least 100 miles++ away from the battle zone. Even if she took 16 with her they would of gotten far away from the battle zone instead of being stuck on that island.

3. Again, that's not what happened, this was literally a change due to the butterfly effect caused by both Trunks and Cell coming back to the past. In the original timeline Goku caught the virus and died before the androids appeared. Since it's a cure and not a vaccine it will only actually be effective when you're having the symptoms and Goku didn't notice his symptoms until his fight with #19. If anything, we could chock this up to an accidental fumble by Trunks but even that would be a stretch.

I just thought another fumble. I don’t know if someone already put it down, but Goku knew of the time chamber before the heart virus kicked in. They, Goku, Gohan, and Piccolo could’ve used it for one day during the three years and then train regularly. Goku wouldn’t succumb to the virus yet as it took three years for it to kick in, but it would probably come sooner because of the time chamber’s time dilation
