You guys are real bikers. I've just watched 'The Missenden Flyer' with his 'aircraft hanger' full of new bikes. You guys represent the majority of us, who graft day in and day out to have a bit of fun. Keep it real boys. I love it.

I’m glad for you of course we all like to move on. I’m in my twilight years at this game. Not because I’m old but I am disabled. Truly. And I’m 60. Not old as I say but I’m crippled, massive daily doses of strong pain relief, anti spasm tablets and I’m unable to walk but a few steps. It’s so hard to carry on. In fact if I listened to sense the 500-ish miles I do a year should put me off. But no. Hopefully your much more mobile than me but when I bought My BMW RT1100 I was struggling so much with manoeuvring it out of the garage and general stuff that it became something to fear, my legs could just give way and even sliding my leg over when on the side stand hurt so much when lifting it upright I began to fear it. My history, I have had bikes since 1976, some small some big. But when I was able I started to get into sports bikes, Yamaha r1, Honda blade 900, Yamaha thunderace, then sports tourers both the 750 and 800 Honda vfr then Kawasaki ZZR1100, then Hyabusa, then 750 Africa twin, then Yamaha Fazer 1000 then BMW I mentioned, then a 300cc Vespa gts 300 which is an all time low, then the 700 Deauville. I can’t spend anymore at this game cos I’m skint in terms of expendable money. I don’t regret it but I’m trying to make you aware as you get older it’s a slippery slope. I even have to make devices , or rather I need devices truth be told to hold my crutches xx

I hear what you are saying. I'm 58 and bought a Honda Forza 300cc scooter and it's been a revelation. Its perfect for old fart touring full automatic with a sliding electric screen. What's not to like?

Paul, I am sure you will love riding the R bike., But, when you get about 40,000 miles into it, and you are looking at a clutch spline lube.. ( see Chuck Harris remove clutch and transmission ) that costs as much as you may get selling your Deauville... lets us know your thoughts (and prayers). I have spent 50 years riding beemers. Doing most of the wrenching my self. When I got to the K bike, I started paying for things I had previously always done. After helping my K owning friend replace his clutch and trans... only old age would keep me from doing my all my own work on it., But , after watching several of Chucks videos on the R bikes.. I came to the conclusion that nice as they are to ride.. I cannot live with the sword of damacles hanging over my neck waiting for the next spline lube, or goofy overyly complex thing to go sproing. When I look at the guys who have ST's and Deuvilles, never talking about such stuff... after 50-75K miles... I wonder.. why I would want an R.

Hi Paul. I don't watch videos as often as I did so wasn't aware of your exciting new bike plans. My friend Graham told me about this (RRide) yesterday and I promptly turned on the TV and there you were, test riding my favourite two bikes, Yamaha's FJR1300 and BMW's new R1250! I can well understand the reasons you chose the Beemer, newer tech, weather protection etc etc. I want to wish you and your lovely lass all the best for many safe and happy miles on your new bike. Paul.

She never misses a beat, comfy , reliable and the heated grips come in handy during nice days out in the winter. I am just starting to peek what else is around and I will be torn when the time comes to trade her in. Enjoy your new baby!!

Thanks Bob, I did look at the ST and come very close to buying one. I know they stopped making them a few years ago, and trying to find one with low mileage was near impossible. ST's are so good people don't want to part with them. In fairness that's why it took me so long to let go of the Deauville , (the mini Pan) It did everything I needed and wanted from a bike. Thanks for watching Bob, safe riding.

Great video. Paul. I had the same bike but the 600. Or 650. Not able to think that far back. Great bike i i i do miss it. It will be a bit sad. But you getting a new bike plus a great bike German made. I got a suzuki bandit 1250s. Have had the yamaha fjr 1300. I particularly ex it for the bandit. At Bill smith. Same place you got to test ride the fjr. I found it a bit top heavy when full of fuel. 25 liter tank. I look forward to seeing your new bike. Happy times ahead. Ride safe. See you on your next video on your new bike.

I'm the same pal, I traded mine in back in 2019 also for an RT. Biggest mistake I made as well, if I'm honest. I now have an NT1100, which is ok, but it's not the Deauville. Thanks for watching, pal 👍

@@paulgriffiths6404 Honda had a gem with the nt700. I need a bike for work in Dublin City center, the RT just feels too big for filtering etc, the NT was so nimble, great panniers and shaft driven so no bloody chain maintenance!! I’m really considering going back to a clean NT as I really don’t tour anymore and the RT feels like overkill for city trips.

Hello sir. First, good luck with your next bike. And i have question about the deauville. I am considering to get one . 2006 model year and 100.000km on it. It must be somewhere around 62000 miles i guess. I'd like to ask you if high mileage would be a problem on these bikes. And did you have any vibration issues. Thank you.
@paulgriffiths6404
@paulgriffiths6404 5 жыл бұрын
Hi pal, Deauville engine's are good for at least 100,000 miles, 160,000km. The Deauville is a fantastic bike. As it is a V twin there is vibration when over 4000rpm how nothing too bad. My advice is to ride one. You will abit of vibration at motorway speeds. If you do long spells on a motorway then that's something to take into consideration. 60k on a 2006 is a good mileage. Thanks for watching.

Hey Paul, I have an opportunity to get a 2010 NT700 that has just under 10,000 miles, looks to be in great shape at around $3k. I’ll admit while it my not be my type of bike, I did like how it handled. My only concern is power at the top end. I didn’t get a chance to try it out at highway speeds. My question is, should I get it? Admittedly I’m more of a big cruiser bike guy... but I need something cheap, practical enough for commuting, but comfortable and fun enough for long rides on the weekend.
