They're not as powerful as you think. At least one of their best spells limits turn summons to Flower Cardian monsters only, plus they still rely on drawing the right cards even if you include the Bamboo Sword strategy. Yes their strongest monster is a 5,000 atk monster with a negate, but it's more reliant on the perfect hand (plus the next 20 cards in the Main Deck) than it first seems.

While it was stupid OP it was so OP once we actually got the really broken pendulums. Even Qliphort weren't so broken that the other decks couldn't compete with it. It needed PePe and Structure Deck Pendulum Magicians to really break it. The real problem with pendulum are selfcompleting scales and the ability to recover scales once they have been destroyed leading to pend 5 every turn. So while we can't ever go back to mr3 pendulum now its not because of the inherent flaws of the mechanic but konamis need to aggressively push it into viability with a bunch of broken support cards that can't all go on the banlist.

@Zoan yeah at some point konami realized that pendulum decks weren't gonna be able to stick around if they treated it like the other mechanics. Outside the release era of a mechanic its hard to keep individual decks afloat. Pendulum has the inherent flaw as a mechanic that it synergizes only with itself and isnt good at being splashed into non pend stuff. So to at least have some pend deck stick around konami went and created the one pend deck. Otherwise the mechanic wouldve faded by now.

@@luminous3558 Same with Links. Salad and Strikers is basically 1 or so cards to make powerful Links every turn. Normal Pends and Links decks aren't even a Tier. Broken cards are inevitable...but once they exist, can you really expect Konami to ban them all...or just release even more broken stuff and ban like 1% of them?

Flower Cardians weren't unplayable under master rule 4, it sucked to have to rely on desychro to build boards, or rely on isolde and give up flower gathering. BUT, you actually can still do pretty crazy and fun solitare combos.

I wonder if this means we'll be getting a lot of Fusion/Synchro/XYZ support and new archetypes, sort of like how once Arc V rolled around we got a lot of Fusion archetypes which we hadn't really gotten since the GX days. Imma be excited if there's finally gonna be a Fusion card that helps bridge the gap between Aelix's fusion/tribute based Cyber Girl/Dancer cards and her Ritual Cyber Angel archetype - as atm if you tried reconstructing an Alexis deck using both it wouldn't work at all (both from a gameplay standpoint and just a pure enjoyment standpoint).
