I think archetypes are one of the best things that have happened to Yugioh, because they allow you to explore many themes and combinations that you wouldn't otherwise explore. In addition to the existence of archetypes, it does not prevent mixing or trying combinations, it is not for nothing that there are cards with interesting synergies such as the Dogmatika-Invoked-Shaddoll deck that literally combines 3 different archetypes in a single deck. Also, I want to mention that the archetypes have allowed for amazing narratives to be told using the cards, just take a look at things like the "World Chalice" or the whole "Branded/Albaz" lore, which on their own could be their own anime.
@emissaryofcharybdis105 Жыл бұрын

There are many fun combinations you can do with certain archetypes. However, many players chose to use those other archetypes as engines for their better staples rather then as a fun combo deck. You will more often then not see a deck running multiple archetypes to get the best features from each (typically negate cards, hand traps, or free summons). Using archtypes such as adventure or spright as an engine rather then playing them as a deck, in my opinion, defeats the purpose of the archetypes in general.

I like Archetypes - it makes you feel like you can get truly invested in one. You can even make a small identity for yourself, “Oh that’s Aythia, he plays Sky Strikers”. My friend plays Mathmechs, so there is that polite ‘I won’t collect Mathmechs if you don’t collect Sky Strikers’ XD

The best way I found to explain what makes Yu.Gi-Oh special is that it is like the Marvel Vs Capcom of TCGs. Outrageously complicated to get into the competitive aspect of it, full of obviously broken shit, but HOLY HELL does it have style and it feels so amazing to pull off a 20-card combo in it.
@pntbller144 ай бұрын
Remember when the barrier to entry was you go to Walmart and spend 35$ on 3 copies of the same structure deck and you could put them together and have a playable deck to bring to your local card shop and even win with if you knew how to play and took some time learning the decks in rotation at your shop (most of which ran a lot of the same staple cards) Yeah, now try investing 500-1000$ on a bunch of cards you need to buy individually and remember they could be banned or reprinted meaning their value could fall off a cliff overnight. Having fun yet? Good because the next step is gain universal hatred by all your opponents by reading every single card they play each containing an essay, and continue to do this till you can recognize each card by its name/picture which just when you have it all down expect a new ban list/set to cause you to restart this process and also you will likely end up in that privileged percentage who’s deck is no longer viable meaning it’s time to go spend more money! Hooray!

There is a 4chan post outlining all the crazy shit Kaiba ended up creating in the Yu-Gi-Oh universe, whether by complete accident or on purpose. The cards he sent up into space I believe was what created the Neo Spacians or found the Neo Spacians at least? And there ends up being galactic wars later on all because of the cards that he sent into space.

The Suship monsters are really cool as they are. I think what drags them down is the lack of spell/trap support. I think adding more normal monsters like Luster Dragon #2 or Firewing Pegasus and support for those cards, like what Dark Magician and Blue-Eyes have been getting, would have been great for game balancing and collecting.
@YukiFubuki. Жыл бұрын
suships dont need more spell/traps, they're focus on swarming the field using shari and other gunkan monsters so having too much spell/traps will clog them up alongside with making it harder to splash in various tech and engines considering they dont apply any restriction not everything needs to be competitively or meta viable
