For a platform like KZbin bandwidth is one of the largest expenses of operation and bots use a lot of that bandwidth while reducing the quality of the experience. If the experience gets bad enough people stop watching KZbin which drops the value of the advertisements that make up most of KZbin's revenue. They also pollute the user data pool with fake users which makes it less useful to Google and less valuable for sale. That doesn't mean that KZbin is putting the effort they should into removing bots. Removing bots is infamously hard and we don't know where KZbin staff drew the lines between the effort they'd put towards bot removal towards increasing monetization. We also don't know if they are we are right just that our experience suffers for it.

Sweeping the website once or twice a year is more effective and easier than trying to keep the bots off at all time. It's a major setback for the companies that offer the bots since they now have to revisit all the code and it still keeps the website from being nothing but spam.
