I love the thread of fantasy that runs through all the seasons of Fargo. Its never front and center and it's rarely bought up again, but its always there. The UFO in season 2 is the most overt thread of fantasy, but there's also Malvo's strange omnipresence in season 1, how he disappeared from Lester's basement without a sound and without being noticed by anyone. I'm sure I don't need to talk about the bowling alley in season 3.

@@KZbin-tied I think it's episode 7 or 8, Nikki and Mr Wrench after escaping from Yri in the woods find a bowling alley just parked awkwardly in the middle of nowhere. The way the reveal scene is shot strongly implies that the bowling alley isn't "earthly". When they get inside, there's nobody about save for a bartender who we only see the shoulder of, and a guy in the background cleaning the isles. Paul Marrane, who Gloria met earlier in the series, appears next to Nikki between shots and imparts a purpose on her to "punish the wicked". After Nikki and Mr. Wrench leave, Yuri turns up at the bowling alley and Marrane also speaks to him, telling him that he has a message for him from Rabbi Nachman and the Cossacks. Yuri then looks towards the camera and sees a vision of the girlfriend he killed back in Russia along with the Rabbi and the Cossacks. Yuri is only mentioned again in passing by Gloria as "That dead Russian guy". To me, the Bowling Alley represents a sort of limbo. When Paul asks Nikki "Have you been to this place before?" she replies with "The bowling alley?", to which Paul replies "Is that what you see?" This is further supported by Paul claiming that "the others" didn't think Mr. Wrench should leave, but he convinced them that Wrench was on a better path.

This was great to watch and listen to. Just finished a rewatch of the three seasons. One thing I thought about Molly's glove story in season 1 was that the guy on the train was Lester. He lost a glove and someone would find it. As in his bully died and Molly linked it to him. Now people lose gloves all the times, and people die. But then Lester lost a second. He murdered his wife. His first glove getting lost was purely accidental, but now he's lost it, he doesn't want the other, and throws it away in a snap decision. He hits his wife on the head in a heated argument with a hammer. Now Molly has two gloves and why would someone lose two gloves? It's more likely that they were left there and that gives Molly a larger mystery to solve, as to who the gloves are and why they (Lester) left them there. I did love how you tied it in with the two 'puzzles' in the episode and how Lester easily answered the one where there is something to gain from the end of it, and not understanding the one where you lose something at the end. Anyway, thanks again for the video. Subscribed for sure and will check out your others, you betcha! Oookay then.

I feel like the perfect end scene of Fargo would be a reveal in a bar, airplane or jail cell where the lead character has brief a interaction with Lorne Malvo, years into the future of the show. Just to show Malvo was actually the devil and never died and thay hes still doing what he does... Causing chaos somewhere.

Terrific characters, amazing performances, error-free writing (the rhythm of each episode and the overall seasons is truly well crafted), wonderful score, delicious (shit, DELICIOUS) photography... not to mention the ironic - noir - humorous touch from Coen Brother's original works. I was doubtful at first since the movie was good enough not to expand, but I've been surprised seeing where they have taken everything and how the movie is very far apart from this work. Great stuff. Wish i wasn't as scared to head into the "reasonable" side of fiction, the why it exists, the what in the hell is going on in our world ? I watch movies and shows for the craft and hoping to find either comfort or counterpart for what i think of my life, but i always try to convince myself such deep reflexion belongs to each and everyone of us, and not something as common as fiction. Fargo is an obvious exception, as in front of every episode i find myself trapped in the middle of artistic expression and educated reasoning, and since i've been escaping the latter for too long, i always find my mind blown. but it shouldn't be. fargo should be the standard...

I have some thoughts about the end of season 3 when Varga and Gloria Burgle talk about what will happen in 5 minutes. I don't feel like its as ambiguous as the show and people have made it out to be. I hope I get confirmation in future season through some easter egg. When V.M Varga lies to people, the person he lies to never finds out what is true. Why would he lie to Gloria just to be proven wrong in 5 minutes? If that time passes and what he said doesn't happen she gets the last laugh and he is screwed.

Will you sometime make another Venture Bros video essay by the time season 7 is over? I get it if you aren't making another VB video because you don't have much to say, but I honestly really loved your last one. There are so few videos analyzing The Venture Bros and it's one of the best animated shows (in my opinion) with real character development and good stories.

This is a great analysis but i would have loved if you delved into the religious aspects of the series. How lorne Malvo is like lucifer. " havent had a pie that good since the garden of eden" and then he is reincarnated as Varga

They should have kept Nikki alive and made a spinoff series called 'Swango and Wrench'.

I've noticed too how much more colorful seasons that take place further in the past are. Season 3 is almost black and white towards the end.

I loved the movie, and same goes for the series, esp Season 3, which has some of the best writing and acting I've ever seen. Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead excel. She's one of the most attractive actresses ever IMO.

This show was so much better than Game of Thrones ultimately... At the time it was more of an under dog show , with broad critical acclaim but not mainstream due to it's dark nature. Really a precursor to the darker shows today

excellent discussion thank you. I can't help but wonder if a more accurate comment would be that 'we want the truth but often we're too damn blind to see it'.

This intro made me to watch the whole video. It is great. Unfortunately i was not able to catch full sense cos english narration is quite sophisticated and quick. Subtitles would make it much easier. But thanks anyway
