I watched this movie as an adult. The wheelers, Mombi and the Nome king were terrifying to me, but it got me interested in the lore of Oz. As for the scary parts, there is a reason goosebumps was my favorite series growing up. Kids love getting scared. I still find the practical effects terrifying but in a very charming way. Not to mention Dorothy and Ozma's casting being spot on. What a great film.

I think you are still too harsh on Rayman 2. Remember, this was made in a time where 95% of games that got a 3D sequel were basically stripped down of most story, characters, humor and aesthetic elements, unlike SM64 which was an extremely rare innovative gem. And yet, Rayman 2 is still atmospheric and varied in level design. You say the finale stinks, I say the level leading up to the finale was one of the most thrilling race sections any kid could play through, especially with the epic music accompanying it. Rayman 3 has every opportunity to improve on 2 and be a synthesis of both 1 and 2. And in most ways it did, but it still wasn't as quirky as 1 or as epic as 2. They are all fantastic games in their own way, and worth being remembered as classics. I wouldn't say Rayman 2 was the peak of the series, but I will say that Rayman 3 is more like a cliff, because nothing after it was nearly as good.
