Yes I remember. I was in heading south Scary , all exit ramps were closed, felt trapped with a new puppy not knowing how long her bladder would last It ended well because the plows slowly opened lanes. So glad to be back in MO

Some day all vehicles will have V2V systems which would warn drivers of stopped vehicles ahead which they can’t yet see. About 20 years ago I heard of a multiple car pileup on I-35 south of the Twin Cities and called my cousin who I knew was driving up that road. He took the next exit and used country roads. An ambulance with its lights on passed on the highway just as he was taking the exit.

None of these "accidents" would happen if people would just slow down for the conditions. Even at 20-25mph your still moving along and not sitting in a ditch.

Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan Three states that get hit frequently with a slight warm up followed by a heavy freezing rain/snow.... Which tends to happen overnight. The result is roads with a snow top and a ice base that is difficult to see until you are on it. Always gets me that on snow folks drive in two extremes.... Really fast like their hair's on fire, or really slow which makes them a block in the road. Normally you just have to drive just a bit under the speed limit, don't tailgate, tires with tread, take any curve slow (especially if it's a overpass or elevated) and no sudden moves. If you see a lot of vehicles slowing down a lot ahead DONT slam on the brakes! Turn on your hazzard lights and take your foot off the gas and gently press the brake lightly if you start to skid just take foot off the brake and drive straight (you put on the hazzard so folks behind you know your driving very slow and there is some obstacle ahead.. or your the obstacle)

Being born in Massachusetts, I always find it hilarious when entire states shut down over a couple inches of snow and sleet. In order for my kids school's to cancel classes there needs to be at least 6+ inches already on the ground. Same with work, 2 feet of snow on the ground? Better be on time lol.

I got caught in the snow many years ago and that was in the City. There was no Met warning about it . It started out snowing lightly where the traffic was keeping the main roads clear, it was rush hour traffic, which is a myth nowadays because rush hour can last 3 hours these days. But then it started to snow heavily and before we knew it people were having trouble negotiating sloping roads. I was driving a van and my van slid over to the Kerbside and that was it, wheels spun and van was going nowhere. Vans are the absolute worse vehicle to drive in the snow when empty. When empty they just glide over the snow. If you have some good weight in them they are really very good at driving in the snow, empty they are a disaster. Same for many 30-40 foot containers. You see them Jack knife very easily in the snow when they have an empty trailer. If they have a load onboard they are much better at handling the conditions. People with rear wheel drive cars should put as much weight as possible in their rear boot compartment if they need to drive in the snow. The extra weight will give the car much better traction. I know that from experience.

Yea I went past there north bound just as the wrecks were starting. I really like the way Swift and Fed-Ex are always featured in videos like this! To be fair, anything with those “swingin’ doors” is easy game to be picked on! For example: There is a road that parallels I-35 about where it was closed Wednesday that has a low trestle over it. You can see where this is going right? Yep!!! The first door swinger that came along and that road was plugged also!!!
