I spent 15 years on the road as a trucker, I’m so happy this is my first winter off the road. People just won’t slow down or stay home when the roads get bad and yes that includes truckers.

I retired from Truck Driving 2 years ago. Don’t miss winter driving at all. I had a weekly route to Montana the last 15 years. I Never chained up once in Montana. No accidents and No Tickets. I guess I was lucky.

As of November-12-2021 I left driving, no more putting up tire chains or finding parking space in rest stop or truck stop after 6 p.m.... no more dealing with dam broker......., You guys can have all the fun, I am here in Miami working in comfort and best of all I will go home every night..... In 1960 we drove from Alberta to Oklahoma in January with a welding truck pulling the trailer, and mom and us four kids (and a turtle) in the 1953 Pontiac. We were about the only vehicles on the turnpike through Nebraska! That Pontiac was a Tank ON that black ice.

My philosophy when it comes to weather conditions.. that load doesn't belong to you and isn't worth possibly hurting or killing yourself or someone else over.. it can be rescheduled. However, the lawsuits that can stem from an accident like this can leave you financially ruined. Not to mention messing up your safer score and costing you your job.

I think everyone should have CB radios so they can hear warnings. Should be mandatory on semis. When cellphones weren't around that's how we connected with home base and to other drivers to warn of conditions.

Two simple words for all of the people when encountering such weather.... SLOW DOWN. Sometimes you get caught up in an unavoidable accident but if people would slow down most of these pile up accidents would not happen. All it takes is just one idiot to start a chain reaction accident, so slow down people.

I was out in it today and yes it was wet & slippery, but the main problems are the same every snowfall. Too much speed & following too closely!! Everyone says “I slow down & I allow more distance. I have the utmost respect for truckers, but you don't own the road. Over the course of 42+ years of driving, I've seen plenty of truckers who are just as, and in some cases more so, inept at driving as anyone else. Any State Trooper would verify that.

Besides, those in nice and warm Little Rock, Memphis, St. Louis, Paducah, KY, etc., are in for a long night of nasty thunderstorms and very dangerous tornadoes. Right now there are tornado warnings for counties in Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Tennessee, and Kentucky. The Weather Channel is currently showing pictures people have sent in of damage already done. It's part of the same system bringing the snow further north. Hope all are okay. Mother nature can pack quite a nasty punch.

Why doesn’t the county treat and plough the snow off the roads?
