I purchased this 1949 Dodge 4 door sedan at a farm auction up the road a bit because it has a small surprise hidden under the hood! It is equipped with a 230 inline six cylinder flathead engine and 3 speed manual transmission with a floor shift conversion! It was last registered in 1965 in southeast South Dakota! There's some other hot rod hints like an external oil pressure gauge, red spark plug wires, dual exhaust, filled trim holes, cutouts and DUAL CARBURETORS! This car has been SOLD! As always, thanks for watching!

Ah nostalgia! The first running car that I ever bought was a '49 Plymouth. (I bought a '29 Model A 2-door sedan for $60 first, but it never did run. I sold it for $200.) Every time the Plymouth and I would pull into a gas station I'd check the gas and fill up the oil. When it came to oil that old flathead six had a real drinking problem. One time I splurged and filled her up with STP, which is thick as honey, but she drank that down like it was 10W30. After that she got. mostly drain oil. She had a real nice body, though. You never forget your first love.

Mr. Mortske. No one Dislikes your car movies! When i was a Little kid in the 1960s. I Remember my Late Grandpa having a Black 1963 Rambler Wagon like the one that you displayed towards the end of the clip. in line 6 3 on the tree. And that 1963 Short box Ford early on i had one of those as my last 60s FoMoCo. Drove here to Watertown,Wi. from Bronson,Mi. October 18th. 1993. Straight West I 94 223/6 3 on the tree.. And Lastly Those 292 Y Block 8s were WAY,Way,way Better than the 223 6s. Never Blew one up or be an OIL Fogger like those other Ford motors.

I like the 32 idea. The guys over on the Hustlin Horsepower channel built a No-Prep drag car from a 33 wagon just like that 32. They called it the Home Grown Hustler. Even did the "pickup conversion" the exact same way. Unfortunately they had a bad street racing accident with the car a few weeks ago and are currently rebuilding it with a different body. The guys also built another drag car from a 1930 Tudor called the Dirty 30. It also is no longer with them. The build series are definitely worth the watch tho.

That 32 would look great with a 383 BBM in it! I have one if you're interested in going that route? Is that tank in the bed a wood gas furnace? If you didn't know, a wood gas furnace is what some people did back in WW2 to be able to run their vehicles because of gas rationing at that time. The furnace would heat up the wood and then the smoke was cooled and directed into the carb as fuel. Wood gas is around 104 octane but about 40 to 50% less BTUs as gasoline. It's about 2 lbs of wood per mile but works great when there is no gasoline.

i had a '52 cranbrook 2 door a couple of years ago that i traded an sks and a couple hundred rounds of ammo for. the body was in awesome shape, but the flathead six was stuck. i sat it next to my garage to wait it's turn, somebody offered me a grand for it, and it went bye bye. i bought the sks in the 80's for 70 bucks unissued, it was mounted in a folding stock i picked up for 75 and the ammo was like 40 for a 440 round tuna can, so all totaled i had less than $200 in it. i was a smiling that day. two weeks later i brought home my '54 5600 5 window i found on craigslist for $700. right now, the cab is on sawhorses and is about to be a 1/2 ton 4x4. life is good! edit; that '32 looks like a really neat project. i say go for it!

That was a great video Mortske. The tour of the farm auction was cool. I saw all kinds of stuff that would come home with me. The 49 Dodge definitely was a classic hotrod with the split exhaust, dual carbs and cutouts that were obviously open when the rods jumped out. Did some looking online for the Edmund's intake. Every one I found had already sold for $400 to $450 in similar condition as yours. The 32 Dodge pick up would be perfect with the flathead 6 and the truck tranny. Put about 10 miles on my rat rod today. Other than it rides like a buckboard it's fun as hell. Until next time my friend. You and Duff have a good one.

@@crackberrry1 There isn't a hole in the side of the running engine. The hole is in the blown engine still in the car. And yeah, I'd love to see Eric tear that thing apart. he's done some ventilated blocks before. We've seen what malice in the combustion palace looks like on modern engines, would be nice to see what it looked like 50-odd years ago. Also be interesting to see if Eric could figure out, underneath all the rust and corrosion, why it failed in the first place. Overrev is a good guess but it could have been an oiling issue as well; Mortske noted an external oil pump which may be a clue. Thing could have spun a bearing due to insufficient lubrication and just been driven until it went bang.
@VintageCars999

@@TestECull that would be really awesome to see. I love seeing what happened to the engines that didnt make it, especially the ones with carnage like this 49 Dodge motor.
@TestECull
@TestECull 3 жыл бұрын
@@VintageCars999 Same same. Why I'm subbed to that channel to begin with; most of the teardowns he does videos on are teardowns where the engine went out with a bang rather than a whisper. This ol' flathead six would be perfect for that, and a real test of Eric's detective skills besides. I also bet he could make a little money off some of the parts if anything survived in there. Obv the block, pan, at least one piston, at least one rod are totally donezo, possibly the crank, but who knows. With the rarity of parts for these engines a serviceable cylinder head might, itself, be more than enough of a moneymaker to make it worthwhile.

The guy on the tractor is hilarious. I was watching another channel and whenever this guy was filming his outro (don't know if it was a setup or just a more often than not occurrence) there was this unknown guy tugging his rolling trash can past his shop door, apparently end of work day toward the dumpster. He would never acknowledge or comment about this reoccurring character. Hey Mortske, this tractor guy is comedy gold right at your doorstep.
