Very cool auction! That big camel back drill laying on its side with all of that horrible, cobbled guarding on it looked like a W.F.&J Barnes brand because I have the 23" model that I have completely rebuilt. Mine was built around 1900 complete with power down feed and deep reduction planetary drive. I powered mine with an inverter duty 2hp motor on a VFD drive to give it variable speed. They are a flat belt machine, but they are very sturdy drills, and very heavy being made to last a lifetime. I advise anyone who is in need of a heavy shop drill to buy one if it is a complete machine because finding missing parts for them is difficult. The benchtop models like the one you looked at are also excellent machines and fun to use. The drill bits you bought are Morse taper, which is common to those drills and most other machine tools. Good to see someone bought the old drag to use and not for scrap. I used to run one of those at my previous job pretty often to clean out ponds. I hope somebody saved those drills from the scrap!

If I had the space I would of definitely taken that drill home, I'm sure it went for cheap, i just hope not for scrap.

Dragline looks like a Model 25 with long tracks. The ones I've seen had either a Murphy or a GM diesel engine. For $2K, someone got a steal.

too bad i didn't know about this auction. i might have been there being only just a hair over an hour away and it had interesting stuff there. did the Harley Hummer have a title? I have a '56 165 Harley Hummer here. My dad had a very old dragline that he paid $5,000 for many years ago and we dug out I think 6 ponds with it. then it sat for around 10 years when we got the more modern big excavators. they went to move it one day and it was seized up they claimed. we pushed it on the trailer and we got $6,000 for it over the scale a few years ago for it. i hated to see it go but it was taking up space and we were having a bad season that year with people not paying so that machine made payroll that week for us.

Surprisingly yes the Harley did have a title, That’s a shame about your old dragline, but sometimes it what has to happen.

Sunnen hone machine. Used to hone bored holes to final diameter such as connecting rod pin bores after bushings are installed. AL B.
