If you don't like bamboo, Nether fortresses are your only way of getting automatically-fueled furnaces. Having them rely primarily on blaze rods allows you to keep coal for crafting torches, or you can compress it into blocks if you want to burn something somewhere else. I have a wither skeleton farm and a blaze farm that share the same AFK platform, and the yields are pretty respectable for Bedrock.

Well there is carpet duping which u can use as furnace fuel. It depends upon u that if u think it is a way of cheating then don't use it, but if u want they can be used and they are great for super smelters, and u don't have to worry if all the items are smelter right at the time when the fuel ends bcoz u can have infinite of those, so that saves a hassle.

Thanks for this great idea, I already have a gunpowder farm and for just tears I can't be bothered to collect tons of obsidian to make a portal farm. This simple but efficient farm is absolutely perfect ! In 1.18 it's even easier to build, in a soulsand valley only skeletons and enedermen spawn apart of course for the ghasts and they require a light level of 0 to do so while ghasts don't care about light so by simply using enough light sources on the roof and sides of the farm it's easy to have ghasts only without using magmablocks. Just use normal blocks for the roof instead of slabs and place torches on the sides of those blocks where the holes are above the farm plus some other torches on the sides of the farm on the bedrock and you're set, you can build with cobblestone or any other easy to get materials.

Magma blocks are unnessacery, just make the roof of glowstone or sealantern or any other lightsource as ghasts spawns are not affected by light level and skeletons and endermen are

Seeing that you are going to have to make perimeters for obtaining netherite to make the new armor. I'm going build a ghast only farm with skeleton only farm right next to it at around y level 5/6. I have an idea of how to make the ghast farm basically hoppers under soul sand with lanturns above it since endermen and skeletons can't spawn with a high light level and rows of wither roses with pistons above the sea lanturns spaced just enough so when i flick a switch there is nothing that can spawn and since the ghast start taking damage as soon as they spawn i'll a more efficient number of spawning spaces active since moving the ghasts basically blocks other spawning spaces from letting them spawn. The skeleton farm should be rather simple 2 block high gap with a roof that's dark with a switch to turn on redstone lamps to stop more skeletons from spawning if i wanted to turn the farm off.

@@knyt0 efficiency bro, say a skeleton wants to spawn where a ghast is that spawn attempt will fail. The same goes for a ghast trying to spawn but one of the blocks is taken up by a skeleton so the attempt fails what you want to do is have as many possible spawn points available in the shortest time possible for you to have the most rates of mobs this coupled being able to turn both farms on and off lets you have the most efficient rates for your needs

You can use a zoglin to kill the ghasts too and just have the farm enclosed in glass only tough part would be the collection and that could be hopper minecart so it wouldn’t be able to be too big, so not for industrial sized but good for smaller farms

I haven't tested in 1.16, but I know for a fact that open trapdoors don't block spawns in 1.15.2. I ran into an issue when building a farm for husks in a skyblock map. Just thought you should know!

so ive tried out the worlddownload in 1.16.5, and it seems like it still works. so in theory there shouldnt be a problem building this 2 blocks above my pigmanfarm in the netherwastes right? the pigman got the gap between the magmablocks and the wall, so they can jump down and ghast should still be safe up there and spawn right?

Ghasts can spawn in any light level. Enderman and skeletons can't. Just light up the farm for a ghast only farm. Also for a skeleton only farm in soulsand valley, just keep the spawning arew 2 blocks high.

my personal solution was to build that up 2 blocks above my gold farm in the nether wastes. so pigman can just escape to the layer below, while the ghasts get pushed aside.

hey ray i built a similar design as this with slime instead of honey blocks for the flying machine, but the ghasts suffocate on one end and then when they're brought back they suffocate and die on the end the flying machine starts on. I dont understand why they suffocate but in the video they don't take any damage until they hit the wither roses. Any help would be appreciated

The hopper, when nothing is above, constantly checks for dropped items (lag). With the composter, it doesn't check anymore, the hopper only hoppers when the composter's state changes. Or something like that

it checks for **any** block, but you need a block to stan on so it's inevitable. it doesn't affect the rates that much tho

It doesnt check for the whole chunk, just for the xz coordinates, so you're reducing the rate on one spawning space in the farm. To get ideal spawning circumstances, you'd build the farm low in the world, afk to the side of the farm, remove all spawnable spaces around and remove all blocks above, including bedrock, but that would be fairly tedious.

I know this is an older comment, but I recommend you trap the wither below the portal in the end, and fill the area with chhickens. The chickens have low enough health to die from the initial blast, which will give you wither roses.

Yes but put a torch on every magma block to prevent pigmen from spawning. Pigmen spawn in any light level but apparently they do not spawn on top of torches, ghast and magmacubes do. I discovered this today so not sure if anything else spawns.
