240,000/h Obsidian End Pillar Farm

In this video we go through the design of an obsidian end pillar farm using withers trapped in cages using some quirky minecraft mechanics. We eventually build up to one of the fastest imaginable obsidian farms.

I recently used 500,000 obsidian blocks for a gold farm. It's pretty impressive that with this farm 16:10 you would only need 2 hours and some minutes to farm all of it. I spent many days afk farming hahaha. Impressive work cubicmetre, love the obsidian pillar farm :P

Funny, it was just the other day I was looking at those pillars and thinking that it's probably possible to use a wither to farm them. Started thinking about it mainly because of Docm's episode recently where he had issues with his wither cages trying to harvest obsidian.

ah I've used them before but in a more manual way (I just spawned withers trapped inside the obsidian pillars and then hit em with my fist to destroy obsidian.

i actually used this farm for a giant obsidian castle and a gold farm, it tooked me only 3 hours of farming. but 30 hours to make the machine.

bartering farm gives spectral arrows, so you could either build a massive bartering farm or massive snowball farm, either would work but more arrows will fit in the system

@@NitinSrichakri These cages work perfectly fine under all kinds of conditions, even server restarts. The reason being that each wither is only in line of sight of a single iron golem. Meaning every time you unload/reload the chunks, the withers will always acquire the right target and shoot skulls at it. This means the wither is always contained.

The reason why Docm probably didn't start with an end based one (and the reason you don't see end bases on Hermitcraft) is due to the high demand of elytras (and previously shulkers) I believe they periodically reset the end dimension on that server, and instead Docm attempted an obsidian based farm from generating portals

@@ethinolicbob I mean they have enderman farms. If anything, they just reset the outer islands. The main reason why doc built the one he did was because it's the design that methodzz worked on and let him use.

Yeah, the end platform farm is certainly usable, its just that if you play on a busy server other people might not appreciate dying to a wither every time they go to the end.

@@cubicmetre Yeah but you can also just afk with a pickaxe at the platform with a sand duper running (into lava so you don't have to collect the sand if you don't want to.) I think his point was, for most players, that method with a simple hopper into storage beneath the end platform is probably enough obsidian for most players. I would just use the obsidian farm (pickaxe version) any time I needed sand (essentially multitasking the farm). By the time I actually wanted to use a large amount of obsidian I had more than I needed by a long shot. And that design is horribly slow, yes, but the end portal is still completely useable and requires almost no building and just a few redstone components.

Using the end platform is actually a pretty bad idea since it is also the most convenient place to easily farm >100k concrete, sand and gravel per hour. This pillar farm is a godsent since it doesn't occupy the same space our concrete factory does. You should maybe reconsider your choice before you find yourself in a situation where you have to disassemble the end platform wither farm with multiple live withers trapped in it, just because your next project needs a few hundred thousand concrete.

Thanks for the amazing design cubic! It took me a couple days to build the small version, I vastly underestimated how much digging you have to do for the whole schematic to fit lol. I decided to also add a blast chamber to harvest the end stone for each ritual, managed to make a design that harvests 9 each time.

It was a callback to when I played skyblock with a bunch of friends and we had a nether portal based obsidian farm using this wither cage. Needless to say while showing off the farm I accidentally mounted a boat and released the wither which then killed everyone before sinking into the void. The withers name was "Masa makes great mods".

Impressive as this is, I feel like I personally don't need any more obsidian than I already get from my Gold/Piglin trade farm. That doesn't mean other players wouldn't benefit from this design of course, but many players may be better served by the suggestion of checking out gold and piglin trade farming versus building an End-Crystal/End-Pillar farm.

I was thinking the same, but i believe he would've steered away from this either way because of the amount of hermits who could be devastatingly surprised by something like this, and the amount of destruction introduced with each wither, if a single one gets out, all of them get out. this is a much higher risk farm than the one he tried, and if it fails not even a dozen hermit would be able to kill all the wither without many deaths, lost items, and complete destruction of the main end island, it's simply not an option on a server like hermitcraft. With 2 withers, and no risk of items falling to the void if anyone dies, damage control becomes much easier as he can call up some hermits to help fix the mistakes. No matter how much you perfect a farm like this, with withers, there will always be a chance of failure.

to make it simple, you first need a ghast farm, a blaze farm, a enderman farm and a villager trading for glass which needs a reliable source of emeralds, normally trough carrot/potato/punpkin/melon, or a sand duper and an infinite furnace (carpet fuel)
