Dropped in here from Keith Ruckers channel and I must say it was awesome to see that old engine fired up and run. To think that was some of the common technology 104 years ago is pretty amazing to see how far it has improved. Well done James on the restoration. Thanks for sharing a great video. Cheers!

Can't wait until Keith covers this again when you have it running with the cane mill. You are definitely going to have to give the motor a paint job. Keith made your Mill look beautiful. A little time with a wire wheel and a paintbrush will work wonders on that motor. I'm sure you can get the color from Keith making them a matching set again will look awesome.

Thanks for bringing us this video of the engine that will power the “Monster Cane Mill!” I look forward to seeing both machines working in tandem to make the raw materials for creating syrup. Hopefully the rest of the equipment for sugaring can be restored so you can bring us the whole process, from growing the cane, to harvesting, to milling the crop, and then finally boiling the down the syrup! I believe these engines are referred to as "hot bulb" engines. There was a Polish company that built farm tractors using this technology.
@MrKotBonifacy2 күн бұрын
Actually, these were the copies of Lanz Bulldog German tractors produced under the name (AFAIK) URSUS C-45 ("ursus" is Latin for "a bear", male one I guess, "ursa" being female bear but then again I don't speak Latin), so anyway yes, there were copies, "unlicensed" ones some claim, but that was right after WWII and talking about any "licensing", especially form a state that ruined thoroughly half of Europe and some of the rest of the world too is a poor joke. Czechs produced Junkers planes under "Avia" brand, and every country in Central Europe was producing local copies of German Kriegslokomotiven (War[time] steam locos), but I digress here, and here's a link showing some of these, LANZ BULLDOG and URSUS - the best tractors in the world - kzbin.info/www/bejne/eIbWmoh9lMyhitU It's not the best one, just one of the first YT threw back at me, if you search for "Lanz Bullldog" you'll find plenty of them - most of them from Germany, I reckon. Anyway, while at it - one family living in the same village as my maternal grandpa had one of these back then in early '70s, and I, a small kid back then, was utterly fascinated by it - how they started it and the deep "guttural" sound of the engine. They even let me once or twice to jump on it when they rode to their nearby field (it was still used just as a regular farm tractor for ploughing and what not). Anyway, it was loud, it was shaking like crazy, and what an amazing experience it was... : ) But the biggest shock was when I saw how they heated the engine (and the bulb) on one cold spring morning - they didn't have these propane cylinders and burners (nobody had them back then), and they just started a bonfire RIGHT UNDER THE ENGINE - "crude farmers' solutions" indeed... ;-) But hey, it worked! - although at first I thought they'll burn the whole thing... PS: Forgot to add, this "Polish company" making these "Ursus" tractors was named, obviously, "Ursus"
