Mashed potatoes, add cooked, finely chopped cabbage or spinach, and sautéed onions. Put everything in a casserole dish and bake until the top is golden. Alternatively you can fry on the stove top. Delicious.

Growing up on a subsistence style farm mom would always cook very large dinners so there were always plenty of leftovers for us kids to use the next day if we wanted since it was up to each of us to make our own breakfast and lunch each day. We loved having leftover mashed potatoes to make fried mashed potato patties. We'd get a cast iron fry pan heated up and either put bacon grease in it or a mixture of lard and homemade butter and once hot would add hand formed patties about the size of my palm and season with just salt, pepper, and a little thyme. Had to be cooked at a medium high heat to ensure a good crust formed. The usual way to have it was with an over easy egg on top to have that yummy yolk ooze over it. Sometimes for a switch up if we had cheese after the flip off the patties would put some grated cheese on top so that by the time the second side had crusted up the cheese was all melted. When my kids were growing up they enjoyed this also but preferring onion or garlic powder instead of thyme.

I make an old fashioned cheap meal . Boil potatoes with onion , salt , pepper. A bit of onion powder . ( about 1-2 inch cubes ) add canned corned beef when potatoes are almost done . Should be moist , but not soupy . To the left overs smash some, add eggs ,flour, s&p onion powder , mix . Fry patties or bake them on a cookie sheet.

I make mashed potato salad. I make extra mashed potatoes and add diced hard boiled eggs, diced dill pickle, diced onion, mayonnaise, mustard, salt and pepper. Mix and refrigerate over night. I usually sprinkle a little paprika over it before serving. If you are using leftover mashed potatoes be a little careful of adding salt because you have already put some in them when you make them for the table.

To use up mashed tatties (Scots word for taters)...warm the leftover tatties, add finely sliced onions/shallots browned in butter or caramelised, grated hard cheese, cooked garden peas, any leftover bacon, cooked and chopped small. When adding the extras, fold them in gently to get slightly random pockets of each item, while still ensuring everyone gets a bit of everything. Season with ground black pepper. You can, of course add almost anything edible to use it up...sliced fried mushrooms might be tasty too! Serve piled up on a plate like a little volcano oozing molten buttery, oniony, cheesey gooey lava ...yum 😋

Enjoyed seeing all the flowers, what I do with left over mashed pots. [ I deliberately make too many] lol, I'm almost 81 and since a child have loved my Mama's fried pot. cakes. Just add salt, black pepper, chopped onions, eggs and flour. Drop onto greased skillet, like pancakes. They get a crunchy top and bottom, while remaining soft inside. We eat ours with salsa or ketchup. Blessings from East TN

For three generations, our favorite way to use mashed potatoes is pretty simple. Patty those taters up, fry them in a medium hot pan with a tablespoon of oil or bacon grease then top each patty with an egg fried over easy. It seems like you’re getting more food than if you add the eggs to the potatoes, plus we all love the runny yolks. Debi in Vicksburg, MS. 🥰🥰

Can I say how much I appreciate your videos, particularly now that God has called me and my husband to be to live in London (UK). Whilst I’m not sure how our cities compare to yours, nor how the countryside I grew up in compares to yours, the sounds of rural life during each of your videos are such a blessing. Your food and recipe videos give me ideas, ones where you show how your homestead works, the animals and plants remind me of home, and the conversations with your children (and your children’s own videos) remind me of the importance of a Godly legacy and the training of children is so important. Blessings to you all and keep on giving your whole heart.

A recipe... Homemade Tater Tots: Warm leftover mashed potatoes. Add salt and pepper to taste and a piece of butter, grated cheese, chives, onion, parsley or whatever herbs you desire. Chill. Mold into small balls and roll in corn flake or cracker crumbs; freeze on tray. Take out and put into freezer safe containers for storage, return to the freezer. To serve, bake in over at about 350 degrees for 10. minutes (Could be skillet fried in some butter too).

#2 Melt two tablespoons of butter in the bottom of a casserole dish. Layer leftover chicken (or turkey) shreds on the melted butter. Pour over 2 cups of poultry gravy. Layer on 1 1/2 cups of corn and a nice sprinkle of parsley and/or chives . Spread prepared mashed potatoes over the top and bake 350 for 30-40 minutes. Can sprinkle cheese on top as it is removed from the oven.

I have been watching your channel for awhile now, you have a beautiful family, I do have a question. When are these children homeschooled?
@homesteadliving79732 жыл бұрын
We homeschool year round. Most of the learning happens doing real life, hands on, day to day activities. We do use some curriculums, but most of the sit down learning is done when the weather is bad. We try to do most of our videos on days when we can be outside, thus the reason for your question. 🙂
@gretchensmith39812 жыл бұрын
I love using all those spices as well. Quick question: why do you not raise bees on your land and have bee hives for the honey? Just curious since you have so many animals.
@homesteadliving79732 жыл бұрын
Good question. We plan on having bees. Josh really wants to catch a wild hive, but no success yet. We have a horizontal hive waiting to be but to use.🙂 Maybe next year.

This is the first we've heard of this. Are the people finding malware people you know personally? If not, could you direct us to where you found your information. That would be helpful. From our research, Honeygain has been ranked highly for its safety.

I use up left over mashed potato, pumpkin, cabbage, peas, beans or any other left over veggies. We call it bubble and squeak. We keep in the fridge and when we have enough, make patties, frying in a pan, then blowing off in the oven. We either add it to eggs, sausages or bacon for breakfast or eat with meat of choice or by itself.

@jehovahjireh31752 жыл бұрын
1000s of root was their original channel, however the comment session was shut down to certain policy in the early day that they have that channel. Therefore they created HomeStead Living so that people can leave command.

Hello, Love your videos and interactions with your kids. :) God bless your entire family. Researched honeygain and am very surprised that you are actually using it. There is a lot of ambiguity with it the owners aren't listed... It's ambiguous as to what they really will do with internet data they collect... I am all for transparency. Something about this feels off... I'm not sure, maybe it's just me.

Wasn't the whole point of starting the new site, Homestead Living, because KZbin kept closing all your comments on 1000's of Roots for some strange, unexplained reason(s)? And this was very frustrating to your family and to your many fans? Was it because of your children viewed on there?? No one knows. What has changed now, I'm wondering?
