His appearance in WKRP was fantastic. It really showed his acting ability. And of course this song was introduced to millions of people.

He was great in all those weekly shows in the 70s when my family would still gather around one TV and work trades on what we watched. Do a little comedy skit. Then sing one of his great songs he wrote. Or the Love Boat/Fantasy Island thing all the stars did, but he was always so real in his acting.

One of my clear memories of that day was when he came out on stage and said “Hi, I’m what’s left of Hoyt Axton”. I’m happy KZbin came along and is replaying these awsome memories!

My first introduction to Hoyt was on the last Episode of Pernell Roberts as Adam in Bonanza in "Dead and Gone" 1965, I was captivated in their duets and love listening to Hoyt ever since!
@mrgreanjeans Жыл бұрын
I will have to check that out. I’m from Waycross where Pernell Roberts is from. In fact my Great grandmother lived exactly a block from him. His grand kids still live there. I came to Hoyt by way of another musician Townes Van Zandt. I grew up in Houston where Townes is from. Love Hoyt.

I first saw him in Bonanza singing with Pernell Roberts. Since then I have been in love with this great, powerful voice. I listen to his songs very often. Hoyt Axton was a great artist.

Not many can sing that well under those conditions. Rushed on stage with no sound check and fighting off an atrocious mix. Yet he stays on pitch. Remarkable.

Is the redhead Diana Dewitt? The brunette really looks familiar, but I cannot call her name.

I think that the dark haired girl is more likely to be Diana DeWitt. I cannot find out anything conclusive but she does resemble the singer in the duo Venus and Mars.

The biggest problem with Farmaid is, no matter who was performing the people on the stage behind the performers always looked like had a gun to the head of the performers loved ones whom they were prepared to do some serious damage to if the performers didn't perform well enuf. And all the performers were constantly casting nervous glances at those serious looking folks the whole time they were singing.
@GregAlanEdwardsEmmanuelRidge8 жыл бұрын
+riverratt101 In this clip, the reason they all looked so nervous is because it was raining and you could see the water dripping off that mic, water , instruments, and microphones and electricity don't mix. Hoyt and a lot of others were probably wondering when the power was going to arc back off that mic and short out and electrocute someone.
@glen73187 жыл бұрын
i dont think they look nervous, as a rule but in this clip I think its obvious they are all worrying about the rain and trying to keep things safe...
