When I redid the PTO seal on my H, I just used one seal. They are thin enough that the ID of the seal itself won't ride in the same groove worn into the shaft by the old one. Also find it helpful to use a section of old bicycle tire (wide) to slide over the PTO shaft. That way you don't nick up the seal sliding it on. Use light oil to help slide it into place. Regards!

Looks like fun 😁 One little tip anytime you put a seal in check the shaft for slight groove or indent caused by the old seal. A new seal won't seal on a worn shaft. When using two seals you can use it to your advantage and stagger the seals to miss the worn area in the shaft. The H is coming along nicely. Enjoyed watching so far.

Thank you for the tip! It's coming along, but every time I think I am almost done I find something else that needs work 😂

@@dehavenfamilyfarm Welcome to the wonderful world of antique tractors! 😆 Oh a couple more things. I always like to put some type of lube on the shaft where the seal rides. That way they ain't rubbing raw for the longest time. Also if you have a Harbor Freight near by pick up a seal driving kit. Works so much better then a socket and have less chance of hurting the seal. They don't cost much (probably cheaper then most seals) and are handy to have.

@@Jason1Pa I definitely need to get some seal drivers. Thanks again

I ran into that same issue on my farmall M with the seals, so I double stacked them as well.

Heck yeah!! One piece at a time!! Seems you have the same luck I do as well when it comes to seals and their replacements🤦🤦 Looks like you got it figured out though!! One suggestion for future not on this repair, but if you ever want to put gasket sealer on something. I have found from years of boat engine repair work, that permantex high tack sealer works amazing! It's in a little white can, kinda a purple tint to it. Never truly dries out,.and it great for holding gaskets in place if needed! I use it on everything, and in your case it would still come apart easily even after several hours of use without tearing the gasket. I love the repair videos on the H, can't wait to see it in the field this summer!! "If this makes you.cringe, turn your head, because I'm doing it" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 That had me rolling!! Amen, gotta do what you gotta do!! Thank you for bringing us along sir, look fwd to more!! Hope the weather is finally looking better for y'all!! 😉👍😁🙏

I hope it works out! I appreciate the tip on the permatex- I have heard of that but never used it. Sometimes you just have to make your own tools and use what you've got 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks Nelson!!

I double stacked the pto seal on my M. At a mechanics recommendation I applied grease between them so that the outer seal wouldn't dry out. I did use it for limited pto work early on, but not in recent years. It doesn't leak. In respect of the gasket I watched my Dad use shoe box, and recently heard about guys using paper plates which was news to me. Looks like the axle bearings were due. Thanks Chris.

That's a great idea putting some grease between the seals. Never heard of the shoe box or paper plate trick! Thanks Bryce 🙂

Good plan on the front, just replace bearings and seals.. Double stacked a few seals, newer ones are usually thinner, and don't ride in the worn groove, but... And grease or petroleum jelly between the seals is always a good idea.

Great video Chris, that wheel clamps have the tendency to mess with my brain, when I took mine off I was not sure which is the outside, it seems if both sides work but obviously there is one correct way

When you put the inner bearing in, there was a slight skip in the video? Does the bearing just slip on or did you have to tap it on?
