The farmer's market in Raleigh was one of the things I missed when I moved to Charlotte. Our market here just doesn't come close. Especially since the Raleigh one is like this year round.And busier on the weekend. But next trip to the Raleigh area, you need to stop in Cary (you will go through it to get to the market) and stop at LaFarm Bakery. It's not a plant store, but the bread and pastries are fantastic! A White Chocolate Mini-Baguette to die for. There are certain days they actually have a food wagon at the market.

I love your podcasts. You are very informative. I am a newbie to houseplants. After I found 3 plants for sale at a big box store, they were bone dry, and I had to "save them". We ended up with fungus gnats galore! Your podcast about the Mesquito Bits was awesome. Here is my question: many people tell me that the gnats are in bags of potting mixes bought in the stores too. What can I do to the soils before I repot or plant seedlings, to counteract any bugs in the soils?

A tip with dogs is to not swaddle them whenever there is a storm :) if you act different they think something is wrong 🥰 but love the market how amazing!

Wish I were close to Raleigh - that market is fantastic. I have bought 5-6 siltepecanas and they all struggled and eventually died. Now have 2 from Steve's Leaves and decided to just place in good light and leave in the original soil/containers. Took a couple cuttings which are rooting nicely in orchid moss. I think my mistake was letting them get too dry. They now stay evenly moist and growing like mad.

I really like the plants at farmers market. I am new at different houseplants. I have a Alacasia Jacklyn , it’s a stater plant with 3 leaves. Has been doing well, but I noticed today 1 leaf has a yellowish color to a side of a leaf. I have under grow lights. Why would leaf turn yellow? I water regularly and tied with the plant other 2 stems and leaves. Don’t want to lose plant?

I’ve seen “pink birkins” at the Home Depot just outside of chicago. They look like red Congo to me. My first impression was that growers are just renaming plants to sell them. But they were only $14.95, and I saw some Florida greens too for the same price. Also, beware of thrips on the siltepecana. I had a 6 inch pot that was trailing 4 ft and it was so thrippy! I ended up chopping and am struggling propping it in water. However the original 4 inch pot I planted in with it never got thrips even living in the same pot! Luckily that one is still thriving!

Our local farmers market is my best dele you plants but bizarrely enough they haven’t had anything but a few small plants for the 1.5months. I don’t know why. It’s not like this. If I had a long weekend I might drive up for this place & some of the others you featured. I would if definitely walked out of there with an armload worth of plants Calathea, alocasia & PP & I’ve been wanting a Peperomia quinto too I haven’t seen one yet. Sigh
