My mom had these planted outside in Florida when I was a little girl in the 70's. They were planted under an oak tree and were very beautiful. I have looked for them but haven't found any in my area in Houston.

I always have vining Philodendron (Micans, Lemon Lime, Silver Stripe) Epiprenmum (Manjula, Cebu Blue, and Neon) variegated Hoya (wayetii, heuschkeliana, Krimson Queen and Princess), Aglaonema (I fancy the mostly green ones, like Tigress, Emerald Bay, Snow, pictum Tricolor) and Monstera, but not the larger ones, but adansonii and Peru. I just took a look around, and noticed I like quite a number of Sansevieria, but unlike you, I prefer the "thin", spear-shaped ones: Fernwood Mikado and cylindrica, for example. Now, if I had to leave my home with only 3 plants, I'd take my Scindapsus pictus Exotica, my grown ponytail palm, and my Hoya wayetii variegated.

I’m a set it in the sink waterer. I’ve had a few die on me after getting water in the crown, even removing it with a towel. I also put my fertilizer in the sink water. I let them soak for 30 minutes to an hour, drain them, then put them back in my kitchen window. My climate is very dry, so my grow medium has spaghnum moss mixed in it. My longest bloom length was 18 months!!!!!!!

Great content, again, Ashley. I love Philodendrons. Could you do a video on their care in regards to their climbing needs and also how to 'rescue' ones that outgrow their totem pole? Thank you for sharing your plants & knowledge, and especially your shopping trips. I am in Australia and love watching your videos.

You get so lucky at the big box shops! I don't go very often just because it's rarely worth my time. (Though, in fairness, I have scored some of my favorite hoyas at Lowe's.) From your trip today, I would have had a hard time passing on the Red Elf (Gracillis) Lipstick plant. I really liked the leaves on that one. But space-wise, I really don't need another big lipstick plant! Regarding the variegated Hoya sp aff Burtoniae, I found a teeny, tiny HsaB at a local nursery that was mixed. It had a non-variegated plantlet as well as a variegated plantlet in the pot. I have a big non-variegated plant, so I wasn't sure I wanted to get it, but ended up buying it. It has grown like a weed! And, ironically, the variegated part has grown better and faster than the non-variegated. I'm really glad now that I added it to my collection.

Plants that need self watering containers versus those that don’t. That’s what I’m thinking of these days. As well hoyas that need chunky versus more moisture rich soil. Trying to understand all this. Your personality is always so warm and open and I’m amazed at your knowledge of all these plant names. Thank you for your rich content of my shared plant passion. I’m in Canada and love when you go into big box stores we have here that I recognize.

I have a high stress job in a hospital (no, I'm not a nurse) and the thing that calms me and makes me so happy are my house plants and outdoor gardening, and I am not ashamed to admit that I tell my plants OFTEN how beautiful they are and how much I love them! Oh, just a suggestion, would you consider doing a video on plants that you think are a bit of work but well worth it? Like Calatheas! I only have 1 of those because she is a DRAMA QUEEN and doesn't care who knows it! Anyway, thanks for sharing!

Air layer the philodendron splendid. If you stick it in water it may drop many leaves before it can grow roots to sustain them.
@loreleimaid
@loreleimaid 5 күн бұрын
It will also lose leaf size I think. You might cut the entire top piece and put in soil with a plastic bag over it for a few weeks. That worked well for my White and pink princesses and /R. tetrasperma tops.
@stefpix
@stefpix 5 күн бұрын
@ I think air layering with clear wrap or a clear plastic pot and sphagnum moss is the best way. Without roots a cutting with so many leaves would drop them.

It's 12/20/24 in NE TN and the Lowe's where I shop and where I just came back from today, has almost all of their inventory gone, except for X-mas stuff - wreaths, trees, etc. How come you're in Michigan and those stores have zillions of plants? BTW, I just bought a second Queen Pothos which I'm going to try to get it acclimated to my fish tank.
