100% do not eat any uncooked veg from a fish tank. The bacteria level that’s maintained in the water is enough to make you sick with a little amount causing food poisoning.

Awesome idea .. I watch a show where developing countries were putting similar setups in their back yards. Aquaponics' they raised up the fish to eat as well as the veg. The fish provide the fertilizer for the plants and the water only needs to be topped up.

Perfect ecosystem there! No need to fertiilize the plants since there are fish waste in the water, and the ammonia will disappear if the plants eat the wastes!

I would like to do something like this in my basement. .. It gets too cold here to have this outside... but I have room in my basement to where it's only adding the aquariums.. I planned on doing an inside grow room and I love wild life. Fish are beautiful 😍.. its a beautiful hobby..

Feed the output from the aquarium filter to your 'grow bed' setup then back to your tank. Its also possible to use the grow bed itself as a filter if designed correctly. There are lots of designs online. Just make sure the whole thing will not flood if either one of the pumps fails or you get a blockage somewhere -good luck!

to overcome the cold weather if you have enough aquarium heaters it should keep up with the weather... no experience on snow weather though

I would not call this an "easy" thing to do, you however make it seem easy for you. It is a very nice set up. I looked through all the comments and apparently I'm the only person wondering if you have to feed the fish. I'm assuming fish waste goes up through the pump and gets absorbed as it fertilizes the plants. Do the plants then send some sort of nutrient down to the fish? Or do you need to actually feed the fish as a normal aquarium?
