I don't know if I'd say "won't let you down." Benchmade's warranty is pretty great compared to spyderco. Plus spyderco's obsession with red lock tight doesn't speak volumes to their belief that their own knives could be maintained or disassembled. I've been told to pound sand when it came to having my spyderco military fixed under warranty, and it basically just needed a new scale because it chipped around the screw. After market would have had me covered if spyderco hadn't put it together with permanent thread locker. They are not as reputable in the warranty department as they should be considering their cost.

Buy a Ganzo knife from AliExpress that uses a similar mechanism. You can steal the wire-spring (called an Omega spring I think) from the Ganzo to fix your Benchmade. I finally broke down and bought a Bugout with titanium scales from SMKW. It arrived with a semi-sharp blade that was off-center and had pretty serious lock-stick. The SMKW website describes the blade as 'satin finish' but it's the usual stonewash finish. I returned it with a note listing these quality problems and asked them to send a replacement that was free of defects. They issued me a refund, instead. Meanwhile, the $23 Bugout clone I bought from Ali Express continues to function well and remains in my EDC lineup. And for what it's worth, unless you have a 'real' Bugout to compare it to, I bet 99% can't tell it's a fake.

I know it's not a common occurrence, but failures like this make me question the axis lock reliability. For EDC is not a big deal, but if you depend on your knife for work or while being out in the woods, this is definitely worrisome.

Same thing happened to mine haven't fixed it yet and that happened over a year ago kinda just turned me off from Benchmade, I was excited because they're local to Oregon but so is Kershaw so that's what I keep in my pocket now

I'm sure it has already been said in the comments many times, but Omega springs can randomly fail at any time. That is the reason I no longer buy knives with this lock type. It happened to me on a BM I owned decades ago, very soon after I bought it. It's a super fun lock to play with, though.

damn, my bugout has not had any problems with the omega springs.

i have several benchmades. bugouts, mini bugouts, 940s,.. on every single one of them one or both omega springs broke. and so did the replacement springs. and i'm not giving them any hard use.

That sucks man, I've had zero issues with mine, I have both the basic black one and one with flytanium scales that I bought this year at bladeshow and like you, I fidget with them all the time I'm at home lol and open packages, along with some clothes tags. Hope you can get the omega springs replaced soon!

Awe man that's a bummer. The dreaded Benchmade omega spring.... A proprietary part they won't release to the public despite issues with it's durability.... When my brother showed me his Benchmade I cringed then gave him a Spyderco for Christmas. I hope you get some resolution but I'm betting it will take a good while and your better suited to buy another Spyderco

Spyderco or Cold Steel. No more worries again. Never understood the love for that Benchmade lock. You life depends on a mm spring?? Try the triad-lock from Cold Steel or Spyderco. My edc is the Cold Steel American Lawman. You would definitely like that one. Rock solid

I got really excited there for a second when you said BladeHQ was shipping to Norway... Panduro might have some wire that will do the job.

Look into the Hogue RSKMK1. It is designed by Doug Ritter who designed the Benchmade griptillian. This knife has stronger springs than the bugout and it is a little bit bigger about the size of the Shaman.

Same thing happened to me during my highschool graduation trip. Had a mini hk axis and the omega spring broke during the first night of the trip. Luckily I had a backup tenacious as well. Never left home without a second knife starting from that day.

Same boat. I love Benchmade but absolutely hate the axis lock. Springs break all the time and, until recently, there were no aftermarket springs available. I ditched folders for three years because of this issue and went with small fixed blade instead. I'm moving back to folders now for fun and am getting a Spyderco Shaman mostly because of your videos. Hah. Hope all is well in Norge, man!

SORRY THAT HAPPENED TO YOU. THAT'S WHY WHEN I GO AWAY FROM HOME. I TAKE A COLD STEEL. THE TRIAD LOCK NEVER FAILS, AND OF COURSE I TAKE ATLEAST 4 KNIVES WITH ME, AND ONE IS ALWAYS A FIXED BLADE. NO MATTER HOW STRONG A FOLDER IS, THERE IS A CHANCE IT COULD BREAK, EVEN A COLD STEEL. LIKE THE SAYING GO'S. "BETTER TO HAVE IT AND NOT NEED IT, THAN TO NEED IT AND NOT HAVE IT".

If you needed a lightweight knife you should have went with a Spyderco Para3 LW. Awesome knife.

He has a standard G10 Para 3 already. I have both and was kinda disappointed how little difference in weight in the hand, between the two there really was. *I think it’s officially like 0.3 or 0.4 oz.

The horror..the horror. A friend of mine has that knife. I liked it on KZbin, but really don't like it in hand. I have the rather cheap Spyderco Tenacius right now and like it way more than I thought I would! BUT I am interested in trying out that locking mechanism - S.O.G. has their own version and it looks like the right thing for me. The new Flash for instance! I hope you have a nice holiday in spite of your mishap with the Bogout.

Man this happened to mine after 2 months. I ordered a replacement set off Amazon that claims to be stronger and picked a back up set just in case. I’ll do updates every 3 months in case you want to see how those are doing. Good luck.
