Dave Morrow I just found your channel the other day when I saw your rebuilding episodes of the squeeze chute. I'm still waiting for the final episode. I have a 1956 NAA Ford tractor that my dad bought used in 1958. He used it fairly lightly for several years. I think he had a side mower for it and a disc setup. Mostly he moved stuff around the farm. In 2000 I moved to eastern Oregon and talked my father out of the Ford, he had bought a small Kubota several years earlier. I am several years older than you, but I used this Ford for whatever I could do with it. I did change the 6 volt system to 12 volts with a single wire alternator. I made the kit up myself changing all the wiring, ignition switch and gauges. I remember having a problem with the oil gauge fitting at the engine block. Also my tractor is painted grey and 'blue'. I believe those colors to be original. They were the colors when Dad bought the tractor and drove it home (about 55 miles) from the sale yard. Long drive! You'll love the 12 volt system and the engine purrs when running good. I haven't heard about the distributor conversion before but that will be on my list for mine. I enjoy your videos that I've watched and will see more of them.
@farmertylerranch43995 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot Dave wow he drove it 55 miles how long did that take!? All that’s left to do on the chute is paint it which is easy to put off! Soon enough I’ll have it done though. Thanks again!

Nice NAA! If you want to stay with ignition points, you will need a 12 volt coil with a internal resistor or a resistor bar between the coil and distributor. The pto has 4 bolts around it that you remove then the pto shaft should slide outward and you can replace the seal and bearing. You might have to tug on it sometimes. They look nice all painted up but I think the working look gives it a lot of charactor. Good luck.

I can tell you from experience, painting the tractor would be nice but if you are going to use it as a working tractor it won't last. I have a 1950 Farmall Super A that I bought in 2001. First thing I did was strip it down and repaint it. I pretty much did everything you have done. Replaced wires, lights, 12 volt conversion, electronic ignition, all new tires. Although it looks better than when I bought it 20 years of wear have taken a toll.

That is a Golden jubilee we had one as a kid a nice little tractor really light on the front end a 3pt rake would make it bounce up and up hill had to steer with the brakes the only issue we ever had with it was the steering rod that goes from the steering wheel down to the gears that steer it the rod would break all the time even putting a pin in it and welding it up good it would break somewhere else put a new steering rod in still did the same not as often but once or twice a year it break ended up parking it and idk on the 6-12 coil when converting the 135 Massey they put a 12vcoil on it I would probably put the 12v on for a piece of mind
@farmertylerranch43995 жыл бұрын
Thanks Blake wow wonder why you had so much trouble with the steering? They are definitely light up front. With six bales on the three point platform I can lift up the front end by myself! I agree with you on the coil. They’re pretty cheap so why not for the piece of mind. Thanks again

The old tractor should make for another good video series. I always enjoy the older tractors, whatever the brand. That sentimental value of a tractor will get you everytime. I'm sure there are several around here that can advise you on the repairs but, be sure to get repair & parts manuals. I could be wrong but, I think you may even be able to go to the New Holland website to get some information on it in addition to all of the tractor enthusiast websites. I look forward to seeing the series. Stay safe.

Around 125.00 for parts to go to 12 volt system, tear out all old wiring since your 6v system was probably positive ground ,now your 12 v will be negative ground. Get one wire alternator, plugs ,wires, solenoid,resistor,coil, points,condenser, your starter is ok, it will turn a little faster under 12 v. You do away with the regulator which eliminates problems. Don’t be afraid of new wiring because there is lots of utube diagrams to help you out. May need 12v headlights for night use. Solid state is nice but for about 125.00 more dollars. You will enjoy the work especially when it fires up for the first time, have fun, I enjoy your videos. Should get a voltage meter for the dash.

Like Hay Man said, an electronic ignition is the way to go! I have no idea if the 6v coil would work. I'm not sure I'd be willing to try it either.. Lol. As for the full restoration with paint, I'd use it for several years first. You may find that you need something different to feed with five years from now, at which point you can make her a show tractor. Pretty cool family history there Tyler! I'm looking forward to seeing how this goes. Oh yeah, and nice job on the battery box! You do good work brother!
@farmertylerranch43995 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot Chris! Ok yes everyone is saying electronic ignition so I guess that’s what I’m going to have to do! As for the coil, they are cheap enough I’m thinking just go ahead with a new one. Probably could use one anyway after 65 years! You make a good point, if I get a round baler or something I wouldn’t really use that tractor to feed. I guess that would be the time to paint her up! Thanks again man!

I'll chime in with the rest and say go for 12 volt everything and electric start. I agree with BTO about waiting to paint until you rebuild the engine or tear it down for seals and gaskets at least. I would say grab some rust converter spray paint in the short term just to stop any deterioration that you may have until repainting. I also agree with him on the metal frame for the rear hitch area instead of the chains. Looking forward to seeing how the new project goes! I just swapped out hydraulic hoses on our JD 530 round baler, they still had the factory paint on them and the thing is nearly as old as I am! Love the old equipment that was made to actually stand up to the job for the long haul!

If it looks beautiful. Go with it. Try Shoup for parts. I think they're cheaper than YT in my humble opinion. Put a 2 ohm resistor between the key to hot side of solenoid. Dodge used the 2 ohm resistors up to the real late 70's maybe longer mounted on fire wall. I have them on all my 6 volt tractors and that 12 volt battery turned my Super A so fast it laid on its side. JK. They make a spray on grease remover. Spray on , let sit half hour. Spray off with cold water. .Also if in doubt and you can afford it replace it.

Farmer Tyler Ranch I can't remember the name. I just ask for the cold water degreaser. Comes in 5 gallon buckets. At least that's what I buy. I get it feom , Truck Pro, 2261 Ampere Drive, Louisville, Kentucky phone # 502-261-7091. They may have an 800 # if you call ask. I'll aim to call tomorrow and get the name of the degreaser. Promise it's good stuff. Shoup will send you a catalog free for the asking and I'm thinking you get free shipping with a $200.00 order. I usually just fill out order with things I use rake teeth, combine chain etc. also that 2 ohm resistor will solve your battery problems. I'm pretty sure you need to switch out all your lights though since they run from key not off solenoid. Only downside but Shoup will sell you the lights. Also for Diesel engines especially since wires aren't such a problem. Run the engine until hot. Shut off and park it. Spray with easy off oven cleaner. Let set. Spray off. It will work on sheet metal just not as good. Lay in sunny place on hot day. Will save you from eating a lot of dust.
