You're making me want to raise calfs again I remember watching your first video 5 years ago when I started with dairy calfs I also used to watch (How farms Work) but they stopped raising them . It's very satisfying seeing calfs go from bottle to grain to hay and than pasture I moved to all beef calfs in 2019 and I raised some heifers to breed but I couldn't afford a bull but last November 2 bull calfs broke in with my heifers and I fed them together all winter and all the way to Sept 15 I finally found out who they belonged to and they gave me $300 for feeding them and yesterday one of my heifers had her first calf . A whole year later but I everything worked out and there is another one close to calving. I was frustrated for a whole year because everything time I should get the money for a bull an unexpected expense would come up. But the lord is always working behind the scene. I would like too share some videos so If you guys would subscribe i will upload some videos i don't make videos but if you raise calfs only you understand how satisfying it even though it's also very stressful I didn't raise any this year but I might start again.

I used to watch how farms work when Ryan raised calves as well. Wish there were more people doing it, but you’ve really got to love it to keep doing it year after year. Glad everything worked out!

World Dairy Expo Oct 1 - 4. North Central Wisconsin here. We have had a Fantastic seasons this year. All of WI is taking in high yields. Illinois MN UP and MI Iowa farmers I speak with are also having a Great year. Keep up the great work brother. Your set up is nice. I like to start calves in the fall. Make more economic sense to not have to feed loads of hay out in the winter. They I sell off Sep/Oct the next season as finishers

What are you complaining about, running double speed it sure didn't take you that long to restack that pallet 😁. On a serious note. Love the bottle calf videos. It is fun watching them grow. My seven year old loves watching the videos with the bottle calves too. Keep up the good work.

I Just got 12 holstein/angus cross calves. I have a few holstein cows to milk to feed them. Keep a little replacer for backup, not cheap. Great video like always.

That's alot of money 💰 for milk that isn't as anywhere as good as jersey milk that is 15 percent butter fat. I can't wait to see how it all ends up at the end on profit. I still think it would be way cheaper and the calfs would get bigger faster on real milk . Hay is cheap here in Suffolk Virginia I can get 5 x4 bales for 40 bucks or I can make them my self for even Cheaper. I have so much hay that I just bush hog 25 acres because I don't have any where to store the hay . Love the channel how you break everything down in price is awesome.

Flies…….they are so annoying whether there’s one or hundreds. Dirty pests. Number 5 with its white-tipped tail turned up signaled it is a happy calf! The quiet, laid-back fellow reminded me of Ferdinand, the bull. That is one barn full of activity and future profit!

You need a barrel to keep the open milk powder in. That would for sure help. I also like those bait bags for catching flies.
@FarmandHammer
@FarmandHammer Жыл бұрын
I go through a bag per day so it’s kind of a pain to put it in barrels. When I open them normally, I just roll up the top and it keeps the flies out.

Wow at those replacement milk costs...I'll stick to mother's natural milk for her calf. I can see the value in a mother cow's milk now...you opened my eyes. I know your operation is a bit different raising up calves without their mothers.

If you bought like 3 daily cows for milking so you use milk instead of milk replacer. wouldn't you be saving on milk replacer ?

Hello good video hope you dont lose any other calf. I would think that be a good cross Angus holstein though I like the white face herferd holstein. Then again the black face probably bring the best money when selling. Have a great day.

@@FarmandHammer I found an old emergency milk bulk tank made of fibre glass at a farm sale. Just a suggestion, stand the bag up and open the end, then you can fold it over to keep out the flies. An old saucepan which you can calibrate with marker pen, makes a good scoop.

Sawdust and lime and fly spray get rid of those flies while everything is healthy but you can’t get rid of them when everything is so wet
@FarmandHammer
@FarmandHammer Жыл бұрын
There is a 5 inch layer of lime underneath the straw. Once it cools off and I get back to the sawmill I should have plenty of sawdust to use. Usually this fall weather knocks the flies out pretty quick.

They're cute. Yes milk powder isnt cheap but 40 bags yikes 😳 lol. We've just started spring calving here 4 on the ground so far equal mix of heifers to bulls KO Angus x Hereford and straight KO Angus. These have to be the smallest calves we've ever had they are tiny. We have a saying in Australia "fucking flies" lol

Yeah the longer they get milk the better they grow. But I can’t make it work financially feeding 2 50lb bags per calf. It cuts into the profits pretty quick.
