This reminds me of a square house o lived in growing up. We lived in Ohio so the winters were cold there too and we had no heater upstairs where all the bedrooms were. All 6 of us kids would drag our mattresses downstairs, riding them down the stairs like a slide. Then we’d put all the mattresses in the living room and sleep there. We had wool quilts that my great aunt made and I remember them being itchy but loving them so much because it really did help to stay warm on the nights we didn’t drag our beds downstairs. I remember sharing a queen bed with two of my sisters and we switched who slept in the middle every night because the one that slept in the middle would usually get stuck underneath the wool quilt, unable to move, because it got so hot that the two end people got out from under it and laid on top. I always imagined having lots of children myself and living on a farm. Sadly, infertility issues have left us with no children and I definitely don’t live on a farm. We are in Utah and while I love it here, I want to move back out East where things grow better because I would really love to start gardening again. I live in high elevation and the desert so things struggle.

Hello from our farm in Central ⛵⛵ Lakes New Hampshire. New to your channel. Thank you for the house tour. As a farm wife, you do not want to see my kitchen! There are pressure and steam canners. Boxes of canning jars and all sorts that go with a working farm kitchen, including a 1930 Home Comfort kitchen wood stove. So everything is relative. You have 10 children and your house looks very good for having a large family. We live in a balance between 1935 and 2024, taking the " best of" from each decade. I like cooking with a wood stove, but also enjoy my Kitchen Aid stand mixer and Instant Pot. Looking forward to a tour of your 36 acres. We have 350 acres, raise grass fed beef- commercial hay and logging. I see you are in the Blue Ridge Mountains and have a longer growing season. So nice! I always wanted to retire to Blowing Rock, NC. All the best ~ Diane

@singlemomonafarm7 ай бұрын
Yes, I thought going from 4 bathrooms to 1 would be hard, but it's a lot easier than I thought. Everyone is quick and respectful (asking if anyone needs to use it before showering.) Thomas likes music and computer programming right now. I'm not sure what he'll study in college. No, no dog yet. I've struggled to pay the bills while I'm building my lesson plan business so I didn't want to buy dog food. The chickens, I can sell enough eggs to more than pay for their food so I'm fine with the chickens. And we love the eggs too. I'm sure we'll get a dog soon enough because I'd love to have a good guard dog for the chickens. I also don't know how to find one, haha. I'm scared I'll get one that will eat the chickens.

Be very careful when youre removing walls. Some walls are bearing the weight of what's above them. You may have to put heavy beams in place to support the upper weight.

Yes, we removed just a small portion with a contractor friend's approval. Eventually I may remove the rest of it and open it up, but of course that would need extra beams and a professional.

Great video. I watch a lot of homesteading videos, especially from Portugal. Can you do an outdoor bathroom with composting toliets , showers and sinks. They save rain water and use solar panels to heat the water. Could this be a doable project to give you an additional bathroom?
@singlemomonafarm6 ай бұрын
Yes, come help me do it!! :) My SIL says the same thing. She's in Wyoming and she's way smarter than I am about homesteading. She has more time to watch shows about it and learns all kinds of cool things. I'd love to do an outdoor bathroom when I get some of my other projects done and am spending less time trying to provide for my family. So far it hasn't made it to the priority list, haha. Beautiful home! Hey, did you know instead of sanding those ceilings, you can spray them with water and scrape them? We did that in one of our children’s home. Really easy if there’s no paint. A little harder if there is paint. We encountered both 😅
@singlemomonafarm6 ай бұрын
Another commenter said that. I do scrape all the pokies off first and then sand them. I have 2 ceilings left and maybe I'll try scraping the whole thing, see how it turns out. Upstairs I scrape my hands on the ceiling every time I take off my sweatshirt so I do want them very smooth. Also my son is over 6' tall so his head touches. The downstairs one can be left a little rough since nobody can reach the ceiling. Yes, they are all painted. Thank you for your suggestion.

Can you do a video explaining your home school books on your blog. Thank you
@singlemomonafarm6 ай бұрын
Sure! Not sure if others will find it boring, but that's actually a good idea I've never thought of before. The Language arts book studies are digital packets I email to you. You can print them out and staple them. They are papers with vocabulary words, questions, and activities the students can do while reading the book. So you have to get the book from the library and then buy my packet and print it out. The student can write on the packet their answers--like look up the vocabulary words in a dictionary and write the answer down. They can also answer the questions right on the paper. A lot of it is just ideas. You don't have to do everything. Just helps to make the book more interesting and help the reader resonate with the characters in the book. Say the character had beans and cornbread for dinner. Then an activity suggestion would be to have beans and cornbread for dinner. There are art activities (i.e. paint the sunset Susie saw as she was walking home), cooking, P.E. (playing the games the characters played), writing and more. I hope this helps! The above paragraph is for the book study guides. I also have a study guide to go with a meteorology book you'd also have to buy or get from the library. And one to go with architecture books. I have a 20th century music course, covering popular musicians, composers, and groups every few years of the 20th century. That lasts a whole school year. Again, you print out the packet that you download after purchasing. I have a full 20th century course that covers history, geography, music, art, inventions, cooking and lots more. It lasts an entire year and has a LOT of material in it! Covers every subject except math and can be used for families homeschooling all grades. It's the most fun done as a family, but can be done with 1 student too.
