I put all the clean towels and blankets in the bathroom closet, took most of the clean laundry to the rooms, empty the dryer, sweep the floor and started a load. I need to do a load per day and put it away to keep it manageable.

I’ve changed my meal planning technique. I now just have a list, not even necessarily in order, of 4 meals I’d like to make that week to be sure I have my ingredients. I typically make double what my family needs and freeze left overs in serving size increments so that on the busy nights, we pull what we want for dinner out of the freezer
@cristinas43985 ай бұрын
Hi Joyful Homemaker! May I ask how you store the individual servings in the freezer? My Mom always froze this and that, but now I'm finding out it's not always as straightforward as I'm expecting! I followed instructions to chop up a celery and lay it flat in a gallon Freezer slider bag, but when I thawed it out to use it, it was limp and watery. I want to freeze leftovers like spaghetti or whatever, but I'm scared I'll ruin it and we barely scrape by so I can't afford to experiment right now. If I were to freeze individual servings in plastic containers, that would get expensive. Any suggestions?
@joyfulhomemaker80535 ай бұрын
@@cristinas4398 I use quart size ziplock freezer bags and try to flatten out of the meal if possible. It’s easier to thaw and store as well. If I take it out at the last minute, I can peel the bag away from the food to heat it on a plate too

The thing I found to really help me with 3 little ones was to get up before the family. That way I had time for some coffee, toss a load of laundry in, read, whatever, without someone underfoot. Also my kids were in bed by 7. Yes SEVEN. They didn't have to sleep but they went down. Those 2 habits plus naps saved my sanity. My 18 year old got upset that she was being told to take a nap (she's grown, you know), I told her to take a book in there and lie down. She was knocked out 10 min later. LOL. Naps for everyone - me included! Laundry was sorted using of each (blue/black/white) laundry baskets and as my children stripped down for baths, they learned to sort their clothes. Hang everything that is hangable. When get up, smooth the sheets and make the bed. Cooking was 2 crock pots on rotation. One cooking the other waiting in the fridge.

Great video! I so agree. I just can’t imagine not having enough time in the day to get the basics done. Yes my family is raised, but through those years we made it work. We never had a “disaster” home. We had a few rules, and it made everything go pretty smooth. We didn’t have social media to get ideas from. You walked into your girlfriend’s house and said, “so how do you keep the kids toys organized?” Or “can I look in your hall closet and see how you organized it?” That’s how we learned new things. We would have a school cookbook every few years, and only the best of the best gets out in there, so they were total winners. I still cook some of them today! But women need to know, if there isn’t enough time, especially for the SAHM, they might want to consider looking deeper into their habits and routines. There is always a way. Baby steps! Social media and my phone is a HUGE time killer. A while back I challenged myself to spend 1 week using all the time I usually spend on social media on my home and family. It was absolutely mind blowing. My home was spotless. School lessons were complete early. I had extra time to spend with the kids and my hubby. I was happier and less stressed. I use also a lot more social media then before I had my kid, and I think a lot comes from a feeling of overwhelm - and no real outlet to that. I think once those are sorted out, getting housework organised will be way easier. What I am trying to say is, maybe using social media (excessively) is a sign of someone struggling, and that needs to be addressed before the time can be used in a more productive way...

Cleaning and putting away as you go works so well. Thank you also for making the point that we don’t need to be perfect, I think more women need to listen to that and not judge themselves so hard 😊❤

Even at my older age I get down on myself when things become messy. It’s primarily due to chronic health conditions which significantly impact my abilities. I have to try to remember the priorities.. Food-shopping, cooking, basic cleaning , laundry, and medical appts. I’m trying to be satisfied with accomplishing these tasks.

I just found your videos two days ago and I just want to say Thank You! You are helping me reconnect to my roots and the core values I have always wanted. You make it feel possible. As a single Mom now I have been so overwhelmed how to balance homeschool, work, children's activities, and homemaking. I miss it. I agree social media is an issue for me. Thank you for helping me recenter myself.

Oh my gosh, your little one brushing his teeth bottom right corner! Precious and hilarious! ☺ I say this often, but just so comforting to watch as many of us just do the same daily tasks over and over... but it is so rewarding to know that we are contributing to our families, feeding our families, having a safe and beautiful home to live in! ❤

@playcolumbus24139 ай бұрын
@@annarocha3254 Rest and relaxation can also be productive. You can have great family fun time while doing something productive together - like sitting around the table prepping food together. Screens aren't the only form of rest/relaxation. They are still pretty new to us all! If you absolutely need it in your life, it can at least be intentional and timed. Even with an hour spent on your phone or a show, there's still plenty of time for things that need done.

@annarocha3254 well her comment was referring to screens so reply would sound like that's what you are replying too....I say this respectfully....but I notice when I put the phone down and turn the TV off I have proper relaxing time to read and sew or spend time with my kids...instead of feeling overwhelmed because I wasted some time in the morning to watch KZbin shorts instead of switching laundry over and clearing up the laundry room. For me personally my biggest time wasters has been screen time, I guess distraction from life so I can avoid the feeling of feeling overwhelmed.

@@akosua8779 I don't think every moment has to be productive. I also don't think that books are inherently better than television. Plenty of novels are just as trashy as trash tv. That said, I definitely agree that it IS easy to get too sucked into social media or online diversions.

Feeling encouraged! Listened while cleaning the kitchen this morning :-) I have recently started having my 5 and 7 year old stay in the kitchen with me after meals to help clean and after some training it is going very well. I used to feel isolated in the kitchen after meals struggling to get it done and also manage the kids doing other things. Now it is enjoyable together and goes faster! Plus being pregnant with #4 it's nice to not have to bend over and unload the dishwasher!

Sock tip, don’t have so many different socks. Buy one type of sock that will fit several kids in bulk, so you don’t have to match! Girls and boys can wear the same socks, just pick a neutral color. My husband and I both wear the same black socks. And I always buy more of that same kind, so every sock matches every other sock.

I love your videos. I follow you as well as Pine and Prospect Home and Minimal mom. I will be looking up some other channels you have mentioned. I’ve never had problems keeping up with laundry and had hired a housekeeper that cleaned my house a couple of times. I thought I needed her bc I worked full time with 4 children. I didn’t want her to see my house dirty so I cleaned before she came. That’s when I realized I didn’t need her. With 6 people living in our home, I decided we could all do our part to keep the house clean. So we set some rules and never really had a problem afterwards. I’ve been decluttering and I feel so much better

And as for paper clutter, only handle paper once...either deal with it or toss it.Try not to leave piles around to "get to later"! The less mess you have waiting around to try to get to the more time you have at the end of the day for whatever.!

When I was growing up (in the 50's) and my parents were going thru very stressful/financial/health time. We had certain meals on certain days, Mother would change it up a bit on Sunday, but we knew what the other days would be. It took so much stress off her to just know what the meal would be and we girls could get it started when we got home from school. You are right, take as much stress off yourself as you can in those child-rearing years. Really enjoy your videos.

I have a lot of laundry too. And at night I try to put a load in the washer every night, and after morning coffee I will swap that load to dry. Some days I will get several loads done but I dont stress over only getting one done and that at least helps keep it manageable. I use wool dryer balls and they help so much to keep our layndry free of wrinkles! So I dont have to put it away as soon as its dry. This is especially great dealing with King size bedding thats been washed. As Mother's and Wives we do tend to put a lot of pressure on ourselves and that only makes me discouraged and I get even less done. I feel its ok to have those kind of times, its inevitable for me as a woman but if I don't personally encourage myself mentally it can last days or longer. I love how you encourage your subscribers to keep going and give tips to help us just do what can be done and not stress so much. ❤ I could watch your videos like this over and over again while I homemake and stay encouraged.

The Flylady system of zone cleaning has really helped me let go of my perfectionism in housecleaning. I work in one zone, 15 minutes per day for a week, then I move onto the next zone the next week. I am able to focus on what I am doing that week and let go of the other dirt I see because I know I will be handling it another week during the month. My house is not picture perfect, but I feel like I am keeping up .

I make a list of things to get done for tomorrow the night before. Grocery list and to do list. I keep it by my bedside table and it keeps me on track for appointments. It also includes things I'm grateful for and also a small list of what made me feel accomplished for the day. There is a note section.... I keep track of weather temps and events and also maybe something I might be thinking about, garden planting design, car wash, wipe cabinets etc. If it's written down then I don't feel the panic at night thinking of all the things I forgot. It's written down.

You are so right on this. I have noticed the young mothers in my life circle saying all the time how they are overwhelmed and can’t do housework and cooking because they have a baby or maybe two children. But, they spend many hours a day on their phones texting, playing games, etc. I always think of you and all you accomplish. A tip I often offer is to get a small timer and time some of the tasks that seem to be overwhelming. If you time folding a load of laundry and realize it only takes 10 mins or less to fold it all, it will now look totally doable. An empty dishwasher makes meal time cleanup so much easier, and on and on. Anyway, I am 72 now but ran my home much like you do. When people would ask me how on earth I keep up and do it all (my husbands job kept him away for days at a time, sometimes longer, so I had zero help) and I just said “prayer, and I just get up in the morning, put one foot in front of the other and just keep going!” Ha ha. God bless you🙏

Such good advice for people that are 'in the trenches'. I am in a season now where I can piddle around and spend more time on things but back in the day, just getting things done was 'perfect' enough. One thing I notice, even now, is that when I see something that needs to be done instead of putting it off I guess how long it will take to just do it. Sometimes it literally takes 2 minutes to just handle something and then its out of your mind. I also really like to write lists and cross things off, I can't stand having a running to do list in my head~ if it's on paper its less stressful for some reason. And yeah, bleach is a strong chemical but sometimes its necessary to get something really clean.

Decluttering is life changing. I have been slowly working towards minimalism for about a year, and I have noticed a huge difference in the efficiency of my routines, and the ease of cleaning my home. Also, I have tasks different days, but there are days I simply do not get it all done due to other things coming up, and that's ok, I can do it another day.

Lisa, thank you for sharing with us your maturity and practical thinking! It is so refreshing to hear. Your “controversial” advice about homemaking is so true and hopefully so encouraging to people who are overwhelmed. I’ve had different seasons of life where I’ve been a stay at home mom and a full time working mom and I’ve always been able to get the essentials you shared done and go to bed at a decent hour. The other side of that is keeping kids in a good routine with a healthy bedtime. Right now I’m at home full time and my favourite part about this is I also have time to do home projects which I enjoy
