My 7 year old daughter and 6 year old son love to watch Farmhoisr on Boone. Yesterday they were mixing up some thing on the lanai and feeding it to the chickens and I asked them what they were doing and they said “we’re playing Farmhouse on Boone with our new baby chicks. We just made our own chicken chick feed and it smells glorious “ well done, Lisa!

Growing up my Jamaican parents would cut a grapefruit in half and then you put poke holes/ gut the fruit so it’s scoopable and dizzle with condensed milk. Delicious especially if you put the fruit in the fridge so it’s nice and cold on a hot summer day

Being vegetarian, our stocked refrigerators couldn't look more different. (no judgment there, not all non-meat eaters are dogmatic wackadoodles) but it did make me wonder: do you have friends or know other homesteaders who don't consume meat? You have a whole lifestyle going that seems to preclude the possibility. PS I enjoy watching your videos because the rhythm of your days is soothing. Well done on co-creating with your husband a beautiful home and family.

I love it! Try FERMENTED RED ONIONS with bay leaf, some juniper berries and coriander seed. I cut them in quarter slices and ferment them in salt brine (2%) for a week . So delicious!! I eat them as topping on sourdough bread with canned chicken meat (self-butchered) and mustard. Love it!! Thank you for all the delicious recipes. Due to you I am quite comoftable with sourdough now. Here in Germany we eat bread with jam as breakfast in the morning, cook for lunch and eat bread with spreads like cream cheese or sliced cheese or sliced sausage in the evening. A lot of bread and much less to cook than you Americans do 🙂

Lisa, have you ever tried making raw yogurt? You don't have to heat it it to 180, effectively pasturizing it. I fill four pint jars with raw milk, add 1 tbls yogurt starter to each jar, cover and shake. Then I put them in an instant pot insert and fill with hot water to the neck of the jars. I have to refill several times to get the water to maintain a temp of 110, since my milk comes cold from the fridge. Then I put it on the yogurt function for 12 to 24 hours before straining it in the fridge (I like Greek style.) This method skips the step of heating and cooling the milk and maintains all the bacteria in the raw milk, not just the starter culture!
@thesewinggarden73117 ай бұрын
Thank you, Grace! I’ve always wondered if yogurt could be made without the heating and cooling process found in most “recipes”.

Hello from the middle of Nebraska! It was fun to see the baby, he is so darling cute!! Would you and Luke ever consider a Q & A? I have so many questions about everything! How do you budget? What is a ballpark figure that one could make from social media? How do you afford health insurance; life insurance, car insurance; homeowners insurance; retirement planning; saving for college for your children; tithing; taxes, dental, etc. etc. etc. All the things financial when homesteading and being self employed. It all just seems so daunting!!! Think about it please! Thank you for sharing your kitchen!!

Lisa, just a note on the morels, they absorb toxins & and other things as they grow so just be wary when harvesting them from landscaping unless you know your mulching or whatever you landscape with wasn’t sprayed or treated with any toxins. Obviously since this video was a while ago y’all are just fine but just wanted to comment for future reference for others hunting morels! I just learned this myself.

No one taught me, in the least. I was chastised in fact that I wanted marraige n kids. I had to learn while home with my kids. I did know how to cook etc, but not the depth I learned. I had never seen a mother nurse her baby. No one slept with their babies. No one looked at traditional healthcare. No one homeschooled, not much curricula. It’s very doable tho.
