Ashley Colley that’s why people complain and say they don’t want kids, cause they’re „too expensive“. I even was reading in a forum that they bought a new, bigger car so the stroller could fit in. Wow 🤦🏻‍♀️😅

Im expecting my second and Im so glad I found this video. I was on a budget and short on space with my first and I found that my baby list was a lot like yours, no crib, no changing table, etc. I loved multitasking items so I would use my exercise ball to bounce on with baby (instead of a glider), changed baby on the couch/bed/floor with receiving blankets underneath, used a soup thermos filled with hot water as a bottle warmer, and a $7 shower caddy as a diaper caddy that I could move around the house. A baby bath sponge and an inch of water in the tub meant I didnt need a big ol baby bath either. Before baby could roll, he was swaddled in a laundry basket and I would bring him inside the bathroom while I showered lol. My parents thought that was strange lol but it works fine. Moms are so creative and we dont need a million things. As long as baby is fed, safe, and comfortable they will be ok

Absolutely love this too! I'm 9 weeks pregnant tomorrow and live in a one-bedroom apartment. I want to own as few items as possible and thought I needed a changing table, but happy to know I don't! Just wondering if there's no crib, where do you put the baby down for its nap? I actually found gorgeous second-hand woven baskets for around €20 and thought of using that, which you can move around and even bring to outings since we don't own a car and won't be using a car seat! 🤗
@strawburybounce

Valises & Gourmandises for naps, I primarily used a kid size Japanese floor futon that my mom has from when I was a baby. Some other ideas are a pack-n-play (great for travel, folds compact for storage, and you can purchase a mattress separately to make it more comfy), a memory foam kitchen mat (you can roll it up after youre done with naps!), baby swing (not necessary but we got one used from a friend) and your bed. A basket is great idea while your baby is still small. After my son gained the ability to roll over, I felt more comfortable placing baby in my bed (peel back your blankets and sheets so baby isnt surrounded by fluffy items) since it is low to the ground and placed body pillows around him as a barrier. This second time around, I will be using a secondhand dock-a-tot for naps and co-sleeping and the pack-n-play. Prob will still utilize the floor for naptime as well. Do what you feel is comfortable and safe for your baby. Congrats on your pregnancy!
@strawburybounce
@strawburybounce 4 жыл бұрын
Valises & Gourmandises and absolutely dont need a changing table! I don’t even know why people make them a “musthave” item. Towel/receiving blanket/anything washable that you can spread out underneath is enough to absorb any accidents if they occur. You can easily add them to your wash and it gives you the freedom to change baby anywhere in their house. Most babies have at least a few poop explosions where their backs and onesies get soiled so I wouldnt want to change baby on a precious mat. Just an old towel will do and then immediately into the wash lol!

First baby checklist I've watched at 20 weeks pregnant and I'm not gonna watch any more :) I'm expecting my first so it's all very confusing, but as we get ready for her we found ourselves decluttering the whole apartment like crazy! One essential for me was a lingerie laundry bag for the breast pads. We had a front loader washing machine, and the breast pads were thin enough to slip out of the drum and get caught up in the mechanism of the machine. But even with a top loader, it would be useful to have a laundry bag to put little things in to keep them together and prevent them from getting lost.

I agree. A lot of the items for babies are a marketing strategy to get parents to buy for their babies... and it works because we all want the best for our baby. Get items that can be used now and as your baby grows older. I think it's best to save the earth and your pocketbook.

Babies don't really need a whole lot. Just something to eat, something to keep warm with, something to potty in, and somewhere to sleep. What that looks like will vary depending on the family, but that's about it as far as needs. And a car seat. Everything else is extra 😉 I do like to have a swing just so I can do other things without baby (like take a shower) and baby is safe. I also like to have something handmade for each baby, those things are just special to have. We are expecting our 7th due in April. The only thing we're buying for baby is some new cloth diapers, because after 6 babies, you can imagine how worn some of our diapers are.

Brandi I’m also due in April, but this will be my first. I’m cloth diapering with prefolds/fitteds and covers mostly. I can’t wait to start that journey. I had a hard time with my registry because I felt so pressured to have certain things and in the end I ended up with a few key pieces for each category you mentioned. We’re not co-sleeping so we added a rock and play for the newborn stage. We still don’t have a crib but if we get one hope to find one our baby can grow with (convertible into twin hopefully). I live in a small house so we’re aiming for minimalism for space saving mostly. I’m still working on overcoming the clutter we have with just two adults and 3 pets.

lana lyamin so true! 😅 I’m due with my third in May, all girls! Literally the only thing we have bought is a mini crib because new big sister will only be 16 months old and not ready to give hers up, but both will convert to toddler beds then regular beds so they will last. Other than that we are a proud hand-me-down family! Other than that we already have everything we could want/need for a baby and even that is basic! My only absolute MUST HAVE is an automatic rock and play. Worth its weight in gold!

And I HATE THINGS laying around everywhere we just don’t have the space and CLUTTER it stresses me out sooo much. I told everyone not to get me toys and a ton of baby gadgets for this baby because we can’t store it and I don’t want to store it I want to be clutter free, baby will just need me for first 6 mos as you said. So one bouncer a carrier car seat stroller we did bye a cosleeper bed and the rest we get as needed I feel so less stressed with this baby then first two. We live in a travel trailer and for our 3rd (and now 4th) child we used a travel bassinet that folds up for the first couple of months since we don't co-sleep and then a pack and play until they outgrow it (between 16-18 months old for my kiddos). It has worked out so well for us. We've never owned a changing table or regular crib and our babies have never had their own room where they didn't share with siblings. We buy only one car seat for each child (so no infant seat) and babywear the littlest one until they graduate to riding in the cart. We have one baby seat so that the baby can watch his siblings play and sit up a little for a change of scenery. Also recently discovered the extra large muslin swaddle blankets and they are amazing! They function as my nursing cover, floor mat for tummy time, travel blanket in the car, and of course a swaddle.

I am right on board with you, such a simple list thank you. With regards to the high chair my preference is the bumbo with insert and tray which changes for size, is so good at holding them up and then works as a booster seat in the car once they are out of the car seat. My first son and I did a lot of little road trips and I could easily carry it around anywhere and we could just pull over for picnics and he always had a secure spot to sit. Thank you for all your knowledge.

I got it down to very minimal. Skipping crib and got the bassinet/co-sleeper/playard in one instead and going Montessori method from there (floor bed). Skipped infant car seat because I’m petite and on a skinny side and worried I won’t be able to carry the car seat for when he gets heavier anyways. Not buying clothes because I’m pretty sure we’ll get a lot from baby shower. 😱 and probably just go from there. 😁 watching this video made me feel like I’m on the right track!

Second time mom soon. I completely agree with all of this, but it's always nice to check other people's opinions especially with such small lists you feel like you're missing something when you're not lol. My first never liked soothers and didn't like swaddling so swings were a must for me because the only other thing that soothed him was being held and/or nursed, but that's all I would change. I wish I had cloth diapered him but maybe I will be able to with this baby. Great video

Also I think I enjoy the "hardships" of newborn & baby stage more, when some cute things are around me, just for the sake of their cuteness, not because they are really needed. So even though all you say makes total sense to me, I am glad for all the fun baby stuff I am blessed to have!

Wow! Finally, a mom similar to myself!! I am on my 4th baby, also unknown gender, and although I am not a minimalist, I keep clutter at bay and do not buy stuff we do not really need or will use excessively. Sifting through vids of people buying and buying what I will not, I will check out your other vids! And yes, we cosleep and have with all of our kids! They are alive and well!

This is refreshing to watch, I like how simple everything is. Also people always gift babies things so stuff like toys and extra outfits will always be gifted at some point! I’ve kept all my newborn clothes/muslin cloths/bibs in 4 small baskets, told myself if anything exceeds over a basket then I’m buying too much which I won’t end up using!

Only have one baby but I'd agree with pretty much everything. Only thing I'd really add is a bouncy chair but if you are really committed to baby wearing I suppose it's not necessary. I wore my daughter a lot when she was a newborn but it was nice to have somewhere to put her when she couldn't be worn (eg I was in the shower).

Will someone enlighten me, when you let babies cosleep with you, do you guys put some kind of barrier so you don’t accidentally rolling on them? I guess you can say I’m one of those people who are concerned of risking possibly hurting my baby if I accidentally roll on them. But I wonder, how do you guys remain conscious of your little ones while asleep?

I keep it simple with my babies too. All those cutesy outfits are usually not as soft or comfy as a cotton sleeper onesie. I've had people make comments about taking them in public in baby PJs instead of a dress or baby pants and shirts but really, what baby wants to wear jeans? I wanted to mention I have always kept my babies in bed with me because I nurse all night and it just works. However I had a scare with baby #6, my then 3 year old woke me up because he had to pee and I saw my infant had rolled onto his stomach. I quickly flipped him over and it scared the hell out of me. If my older child hadn't woken me up, something really terrible could have happened. I switched to a bassinet next to me that night. I already had it but it's always just been used for extra baby blankets or my girls put their dolls in it. I love co sleeping but I think sometimes a mom can just be too tired. I'm not telling you, or anyone, what to do. Just sharing my experience.
@jessdodge5177
@jessdodge5177 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree. I co slept a little bit but the first time I realized my exhaustion was too much to ensure the baby would stay put, I decided against it. It's so much easier and safer just to place the baby in a bassinet.

Would you also add tips on how you go about cloth diapering when you are out? do you use disposable diapers then?
@EamonWill
@EamonWill 5 жыл бұрын
@@NouRa1234510 I'm planning on having disposable diapers for when I'm out of the house and cloth diapers at home. The idea of having to carry around a dirty diaper and risk the mess or smell of it is just too gross for me. Plus, it's not like babies really leave the house that much anyway. (At least, not for a while.) You can also bend this rule for short trips vs long trips. Also, you can keep a cloth diaper in the bag in case you are almost done with the trip and the diaper needs changing. Why put them in another disposable if you are about to head home anyway? Ultimately, it's personal preference. I know some parents who never use disposable. In that case, disposable diaper liners become essential. Really, they are great to have no matter what, but I would say you need them if you are cloth diapering outside the house. Just keep in mind, they only work when your kid is old enough to have solid poo. Basically, it's a very thin sheet that goes on top of the cloth diaper pads. It keeps the solids separate while letting the liquid pass through to the cloth pads.

Thank you so much for making this video! We are expecting our baby very soon, and clutter is so so stressful. I feel like this is one of the main reason most parents feel overwhelmed with kids; it's not necessarily the kids but rather the chaotic and disorganized environment they live in. With that being said, thank you for the recommendations! I was also was wondering if you co-sleep with your baby, what do you use in the bed? Like a mosses bassinet? co-sleeping is my preference. I've heard from others this is what they use to sleep with the baby in the bed :) I would be so grateful for your input because people are SO afraid to talk about this and then secretly so many people are co-sleeping with their baby! thank you!!

I am pregnant with my first and am hoping you can help answer a question for me. I have considered breast feeding while laying on my side if I'm too sleepy to feel safe holding the baby. My idea is to have my husband keep watch so if I doze it will be ok. Will this actually work? Do I need to be awake to keep the boob in properly? Maybe this would work, but only at a certain age? I know most people will probably want to respond by saying just let dad bottle feed, but there are like 100 reasons why I hate bottles, so that's just not an option. Either it's ok for me to lay on my side and doze or it's not, in which case I will sit up and force myself awake. I just want some advice from someone who's already done this.
