In the 80s, I remember kids cruising from the Sonic on the west side to the Sonic on San Juan blvd. Also, TJs diner was PANCAKE ALLEY back then too. So much has changed in almost 40 years!

Hahahaha Allen theater was still open in the mid 90’s because I watched the Eagle with Channing Tatum when it was released in theaters I even remember when we had a A&W next to George & John’s on Main Street and even a Big Boys burger next to the Copper Penny and Top Deck !!!! Damn just realized how old and changes Farmington gone through!! Hahahaha

I lived there in the 70s and moved away in the early 80s. My Mom still lives there. The Allen theater is where I saw the grand opening premier of Star Wars... 14 times. The 'swasticas' on the old Rexall drugs building ("Falling Waters") are reversed but no one seems to realize that. I worked at the "Allen Motor Company garage" when it was a Magnavox TV, stereo and musical instrument store. The original Navajho Trading Company was (I believe) owned by Janine Garcia, a friend of my dad's. My first ever job was at a Blake's Lotaburger (The one in Aztec on main street). "TJs Diner" Was Jerry's Restaurant". At one point there was a Greek guy named George who owned it and my dad was a friend of his. He got my little brother his first job there.... Lots of memories cruising mainstreet on Friday nights. Back then they did not have the traffic circles and we used to drag race right on main street and then run like hell if the cops came after us. It really was a lot like the "Duke's of Hazzard" back then. I collected tickets... I still go back to visit mom from time to time.

Nice little video. I grew up in Farmington, and knew nothing about the bricks in St. John’s church. That said, the original Allen Theater was open well into the 1990s. Also, although you may have seen some anti-abortion signs, Farmington is one of only three New Mexico cities that has a Planned Parenthood.

I probably included the signage just because there are A LOT around Farmington, probably more than any town I've been to anywhere in the country (that may be why.) Thank you for watching!

Travis, what are some of your other thoughts and observations about living in or just outside of Farmington? I'm down in Elephant Butte but it's not where I intended to end up. I would love to be up closer to CO but I'm on a fixed income and need a place that is not so expensive, such as Santa Fe. I'd love to know all you care to share. Thank you ! (How's the summer heat as compared to down here? When does it start to get cold enough to create a hard frost?)

Sunny the Big Muffler Man, hasn't always been where it is now. It was originally at what we called, "Big Daddy Dean's", which was the Western Tire Shop at the corner of Hutton and Main, which part was torn down and the rest remodeled, thus now a smaller business. The original owner was John, "Big Daddy" Dean, who passed away in 2014. If you look up John Dean's Obituary or google "Big Daddy Dean's it does show "The Muffler Man" as he originally looked.

Hoosier Bro, Outstanding! (Standing Outside?😁) Really great presentation. Your voice is so nice and clear. And, speaking of clear, Thank God you have the good sense to film outside when it's SUNNY! I can't tell you how many KZbin videos of people exploring cities I've seen, where they film on grey, dismal, sunless days. Natural sunshine is always required to make ANY outdoor setting look good. And boy, you really did this town justice with all your wonderful filming, narration, and clever content! I especially am grateful, because I'm strongly considering moving there soon for my "golden" retirement years, and this video is very helpful! Thanks, dude!😉
@hoosiertours3 жыл бұрын
I appreciate you're compliments, I do work very hard on the editing and narration. I agree that sunny days are preferable conditions to take pictures and film in cities, parks, etc. To be fair, us filmmakers can't control the weather and are limited on times we can film at certain places. I wouldn't call it good sense but good luck with mother nature! It's great that you're considering retiring here, it's a nice town with some cool spots! Hope you're move planning goes well! Thank you for watching and your kind comments!

In the mid-'80s, they put Dad's Diner up about 2 days after the concrete foundation was poured. The building is bolted together like an Erector Set in prefabricated pieces. It might have been moved from somewhere else but I'm not sure.

Where would someone who, say -- just hypothetically asking for a friend -- hates anti-abortion signage go in new mexico? I have been looking at Santa Fe, ABQ, Las Vegas, and everything in between. Really like Santa Fe, real reason I want to move there was visiting Santa Fe (ever since, I've felt like I just belong there,), it's not really in my budget, so I'm helping something similar might fit my needs? Do let me know if you have anything! Thank you :)
@hoosiertours2 жыл бұрын
Haha, I forgot that I showed that. The reason I included the signage is because I have never seen more of it anywhere in the country. There is not remotely as much anywhere else in New Mexico that I have been to, if that answers your question.

I’ve lived all over NM…. I worked as a hospice liaison.. Farmington has a very bad meth problem.. bad. It’s a republican town, extreme version .. hence the ridiculous anti abortion signs from the so called Christians that claim to love Jesus.. and will vote against anything to sustain life ( from the womb to the tomb) once you slip out of the vagina.. Last time I remember Halliburton .. defense contractor.. they were all over Iraq during the Gulf War ..had a presence in Farmington .. Dick Cheney .. I’m a veteran.. not pro war Visit Silver City, NM it’s affordable.. you Might like it .. decent mix of people, artist like the town .. there’s a university there which helps … a nice whole foods type of grocery store 2 hours from Las Cruces 4 hours from Abq

@@Zorazora1234 yiiikes... With a name like " Farmington" I guess that isn't too surprising. And the irony of supporting policies that make people homeless and starve to death while only caring about life when it results in the control of women's bodies is not lost on me; don't worry. War is horrible (and the Iraq war was a mistake) -- thank you for your service though it's pretty shit you had to go do these politicians' biddings.

Don't come here, it's a shit hole... High crime, nothing to do, everyone is leaving this place like the plague as the leadership refuses to fix anything. Imagine California but worse poverty, worse income, worse everything... Govt. is killing all the jobs, farmington is in the san juan basin the largest Natural Gas area in the USA, and our govt is killing it. We have strong coal in the west of the state by gallup, but again, govt shutting down all the coal power plants. In 5 years it will be a ghost town riddled with the highest poverty in the state unless leadership changes DRASTICALLY.
