Chaco Culture and Cohokia: Farmington New Mexico Day Trips

I've spent two days exploring Chaco Canyon during September 1994, camping by tent. This whole area is so fascinating, I could have spent weeks there. I met a guide, whose name was Mr Cornucopia. He is still there, shown on Utube videos I have stored in the twenty first century! The buildings in Chaco remind me of similar structures in Mesa Verde built by the Anasazi, ( or ancient ones.) I have travelled extensively throughout the South West for decades. I feel totally at home there. Oldtimer Englishman from Shropshire who now relives past adventures by Utube videos.

Thanks OldTimer. Nice to hear you enjoyed this one. FYI in a week or so I’ll be publishing my KZbin New Mexico road trip which includes a few more native sites. Btw- in these politically correct days The Anasazi are now called the Ancestral Pueblo. Turns out Anasazi means Ancient Enemy in Navajo which is a slur. Since you’re a Brit you’ll appreciate I’m about to drive my TR6 with the top down to work. Ive enjoyed it for 22 years!

@@TheWestisBig love the TR6. Never owned one, but did own Austin Healey Sprite ( nicknamed Frogeye Sprite) MGA, Healey 3000, two Triumph Dolomite Sprints and later, a Sunbeam Lotus. I transferred to two wheels later !! ... Sorry, I don't hold with this "woke" generation at my age. Anyone can be offended by anything these days.... tough, get over it. People need to toughen up I'm afraid.

@@TheWestisBig Oh yes. Trouble is, the minority who subscribe to this agenda seem to shout the loudest.... and sadly get listened too !! Hopefully, they will wear themselves out complaining soon...... I have an early E type Jag in storage 1963, rare six cylinder engine, based on the old XK 120 etc. . Purely for investment really. I take it out on high days and dry days.

Another fantastic video with helpful information and great pictures. The best advice in all of the video is ... don't take the southern route into Chaco Canyon! We did that once and very soon I was checking the mileage every 10th of a mile so that when I tore off my transmission on the heavily rutted road or on the slick rock, I would know whether to walk north or south from the disabled car. Fortunately, we didn't leave the transmission on the ground and we made it to Chaco after spending 90 minutes driving 20 miles. Chaco Canyon is incredible and worthy of a couple days at the minimum but _don't_ take the road from the south!

@@TheWestisBig , several years after we were at Chaco, we were at Dinosaur National Monument with a ranger who had served at Chaco. She said the road from the south was a "rez road." Brought to home some of what the Navajo have to endure--disgraceful is the right word. Dinosaur is another worthwhile place to visit, especially the parts/entrances which are not associated with dinosaur bones. Any chance you can do a video? The view from the Harpers Corner trail is incredible and I suspect Gates of Lodore would be as well.

Ah a Rz road- That's why the park won't fix it! I'm editing a guide to Dinosaur Valley state park in Texas- It's wear the first sauropod tracks were found. I'd like to do a video on Dino NP- its one I haven't been too. But these videos don't make money and take 100s of hours plus expense $$. Recent events have caused my media production work to collapse so there's not a lot extra $ to make fun videos. A small TV network called Fun Roads TV asked me to create 26 30 min episodes of "The West is Big!" problem is, I have to find advertisers and collect the funds myself. More proof there is little money in TV unless you're very big. Anyway... I figure I've got about 20 episodes after I re-cut. So I need 6 more-- one of them will be Dino NP-- if I can make the money work.

Never really knew about this actually pretty cool. I always thought it was weird that the most developed early civilizations always seem to be out in the desert, jungle, or mountains somewhere as opposed to the vast temperate regions like northern continental Europe, Eastern US, North Argentina, which were the least developed regions of early history (aside from very cold or isolated regions) but now the most developed and easily developed at that in comparison to those other terrains.

Every little bit helps!! I made about 2 cents per every hour worked making this informative video that viewers get to learn from for free. Because of the lack of add revenue I no longer spend my time making shows on obscure places- its just not worth it especially when people criticize you for trying to earn back production costs.
