Nice to see the young ones of the family working into the system. Doc Siegler to the rescue. 😁 I don't know if anyone has ever sat down to look at what a real farmer really is. He's a soil scientist, conservationist, a planter of seeds, a mechanical engineer, welder, mechanic, a weather expert, a master of crops, a veterinarian, a family man, a dad, husband, son, brother, a businessman, bookkeeper, supervisor and a person. You talk about a profession that's highly skilled, look at the American farmer.🇺🇲🇺🇲 I'm sorry now I didn't get into the farm life.

I dated a gal in high school…her dad had a 4 on a side, side opening surge parlor…all orange. We milked in stanchions. I’d get done with ours and go help them finish up. I loved the parlor life. Lol

I just love to listen to the sounds of milking the slurp of the machine going on. It's a strange thing to enjoy but it makes me miss milking so much. That was my favorite task on the farm. Note I didn't say job, I don't think most farmers would call farming a job. It's a labor of love. 1 question for you. Why does it take 2 to milk the entire herd? Shoot in a station barn most farmers could whoop you.

Pretty cool, when we sold our cows and moved, our youngest daughter milked at a 3x a day dairy. Because she played Basketball and softball she did the 9pm milking. Worked good for her schedule.

Grew up west of Portland OR, 1950s, many dairy farms in the area, neighbors across the road milked 80 head holsteins, about 1960 the brothers got sore knees and installed a 6 critter parlor just like yours. Brothers sold the herd late 70's, passed on a few years back, parlors still standing, derilict of course.

I was wondering if you all had put any more thought into upgrading the parlor? The farm you bought free stall separators from that had gone out; you stated that style would fit your existing parlor and give more milking spots. In N.C. the unwritten rule is get bigger or get out...lol. I also see two big things; first more and more of the nieces and nephews are starting to work on the farm. I would assume too that the expanded bulk tank, and ag. bag use is for more feed storage. Second point is buying that used equipment and doing a complete restoration would be extremely cost-effective purchase versus new. Just thinking outloud and wondering what the long range growth goals are being considered for the Dairy.... THANKS!!!

I was pretty well grown when I started milking with my sister. She was 13. Nothing worked her up then or now. You have this Annabelle, Nothing quite like family teamwork. I remember having an old guernsey cow with 6 teats. When she freshened she would milk on all 6 for a couple of weeks. Then the very back teats would dry off. She was quite the cow. Great Mother. Nice to have calm heifers.... Especially when you get a bunch at once.

When dad hauled milk and the farmers were smaller the ladies done a lot of the milking. WE had one farm that the farmers hold the heifers legs and his wife put the milkers on

Great video .I noticed in your parlor breaker box you have open open spaces where breakers used to be .you can get fillers for the open spaces .if water was sprayed that way it could be a safety hazard.thats my suggestion from a long time farmer

Yep there is something about milking cows that seems to stick with you! We sold are cows in 2003! I was 43 years old then! Am 63 now! I own a lawn care company now! Still miss milking!

I remember growing up the cows always seem to milk better when my Mamaw and Mom would milk compared to my papaw and dad and any other man for that matter. My Papaw who also hauled milk would always say women make better milkers then men.

For some reason females have a softer touch and more calm attitude, not in a rush. Te cows will move when they are done to get to the feed and sleeping in the stalls.

Arrested for illegally carrying a gun in 2019 and let him go. You know why? Its dark. I thought one wasn't allowed to use a gun in a no gun zone? Kip -- Why are your cows so dirty and have dried globs of mud all over their hind quarters and sides? I watch several dairy channels and the other channel's cows are very clean. All I can think is it's your bedding and not keeping everywhere the cows are as clean as should be.
