Since timing is a function of point dwell, the timing will change every time you adjust or replace the points regardless if you loosened the distributor clamp or not.
@Mikefngarage5 жыл бұрын
yes that is correct but it is easier to restart the engine timing in the same place. I set the dwell using a dwell meter then reset timing. not just gap and go.

Mike, i rebuilt a bosch 205AN dizzy that i got at swap meet. Took it all apart, cleaned lubed, reassembled and put in a compufire electronic assembly. My superbeetle never ran better. No more points for me.

good one. probably better than empi but the empi ones work too.

Always use Bosch points .016 Gap plugs 28 to 32 1 condenser will last you three set of points always use blue coil and I always redo the wire up front from battery source to the front basically I saw her everything so it's not jumping from one point to another point to another point which causes resistance

Mike: respectfully: when you change the dwell you change the timing. However, I still take out the distributor when I change points/condenser because its easier - less fidgeting!
@Mikefngarage7 жыл бұрын
yea If you set your dwell once then set your timing. the next time you install your points if you set your dwell to the same place 45. your timing will be in the same place. So removing the distributer the way I do will help because you will have the timing pretty close or exact to where is was set the last time. You will still need to recheck it but it should fire right up VS a bit of guessing before you fire.

Mike. Great video. That fuel line and filter!!! That car is going to burn to the ground. Laying on/near the manifold heater! Recommend replacing the original thru the firewall fuel one (with rubber grommet) and moving the filter into the wheel well.
@nemobuscaptain32454 жыл бұрын
The first thing I noticed. One of those fuel filters in the engine compartment. Such a quick way for a fire. Move it near the transmission or up front.

Hey mike,why do u I get shocked when I touch my spark plug wires on my distributor ? I know I bought a cheap distributor kit, I think it came with wires. ..
@Mikefngarage7 жыл бұрын
usually you should not. they might be leaking. make sure the wires are not resistor. they should have actual copper wire inside the insulator. Orielly has a cheap set of wires that work ok.

009 doesn't have vacuum advance.
@Mikefngarage5 жыл бұрын
they have a 009 vacuum too. FYI that is what that one was. part number was 009

Mike Fn Garage Sorry bothering you mike but I was cheking some videos and I saw your very interesting specialy for my bug problem. It starts and idle fine but when I put it in gear first, It hesitates and is trying of shotoff then I put back in neutral and it rans fine. I have an electronic distributor right know. Could this be my problem? A faulty distributor? Thanks from Arizona

There is white pouder inside my distributor cap and my engine is not running properly what might be the problem
@Mikefngarage6 жыл бұрын
Sounds like poor spark is causing corrosion on the distributor contacts. this is often caused by failing condenser. I would put in a new pointless distributor. Cheaper than replacing points and cap and rotor. All the newest condensers even bosch are crap.
