Once you build the pond put some solar powered fountains in to help move the water and add air to it. You can get the ones with light's, that would look great at night 😊

Ya'll are going to enjoy that pond, especially after getting it stocked and the fish growing. My best friend had a pond ready to stock when there were torrential rains for several days. The neighbor's pond over flowed, crossed the road and down their driveway into the new pond. Easiest pond stocking ever!

Mr Dutch your idea of taking that pond and making long-terms sort of like in s-shape?? Reminds me of the last or current Pawn build over at Lunker's tv, have you ever heard of Rob's channel?? I believe he has a very good Mind's Eye of a conceptual thought and design on building new ponds and not just round or oval shape... Mr Dutch did I hear you say correctly that you were somewhere around 40 something acres?? 30 something acres?? I believe either the two should leave you hopefully impossibly the enough linear feet that you could continue that as pattern that you're thinking of I believe that's what you think of?? If you can possibly get close to 5 Akers? Not using up the whole 5 Acres but in a 5-acre square area. Maybe started out with a little bit smaller and wider as shaped kind of like where you're at.. then add a c shape or an L-shaped a little deeper getting 12 to 15 ft maybe a 35 ft that's widest... then bring it back into another s-shape or u-shaped attitude the middle area from where you are ending at now on the beginning of what you're building.. if I'm remember correctly as to what Rob said on his Lunker's TV post on his newest build Pond build.. somewhere between 3 and 5 Acres was a recommendation if you had the room to start a nice Bass pond.. or you could use it for anything else as well...... not just passing on you do catfish car crappie Brown bluegill just a wildlife water sanctuary and habitat for the animals.. and yes as you have indicated, if need be you've got your own water supply.. if you ask me that's a brain working correctly on multiple levels, LOL.. I am now subscribed to your channel I will be looking forward to all your post.. I'll be honest mostly just here for the pond build but I'll check it out maybe you can give me a stick around for some other good cold fun interesting and offbeat stuff lol..

A few observations and ideas. Get with a wildlife officer, and they can point you into the right direction as for what type of habitats you want/need to create for the type of fish you want to stock your pond with. I'd say you are very lucky to have the type of soil you have as far as it holding water. Could deal with less rock, but hey, you deal with and use what you have! when the pond gets more full, if it doesn't clear up, you can get an airiator(sp) and it'll really hel0 to clear the pond. The channel "life uncontained) put one in their pond. Runs on solar, pretty small system really, like one one 100W panel to run the pump, and one battery. Also, something that would be neat for the girls, and who ever is fishing, if you made a natural "dock" like a peninsula, oh maybe 4-5' wide, where you can walk out and have water on both sides of you. Sorry hard to paint a picture with just words LOL. Oh, and if those are bull frogs(the big ones) those are pretty tasty(just the legs) breaded and deep fried. And the way they multiply, it's a endless(almost) food supply. Congrats on getting your pond bigger, in the end, it's gonna be worth it, for you, your family and the wildlife!

I hope that pond is spring feed and is dug out deeper atleast in the middle and some tree tops brought in for fish cover. It’ll take a couple years before a good ecosystem is established and balanced out. My Grand dad built us grandkids a 3 acre pond about 50 plus years ago and it’s still thriving today. I was barely knee high when it was being built and can remember seeing a track hoe and a big loader down in this huge hole, it was nuts. Hope y’all enjoy it!

I built a wildlife pond once, it wasn't massive, but within a fortnight, the water started to clear and frogs, newts, water boat men, pond skaters all introduced themselves. I only built it for anything that wanted to visit or move in. My father enjoyed it, sitting on the low wall i put along one side, smoking his pipe and just watching the dragonflies etc. That was in the UK in about 1980.

Our larger spring fed pond has fish, it’s from fish eggs stuck in the feet of ducks, geese, and blue herons that fly around from pond to pond in our area. We have cat tails, which are edible by the way, growing in each of our three ponds. Building a dock would be nice, but an easier thing is to build a concrete boat ramp while the water is still low. Best time to lay concrete is in the cooler fall weather. Hope a paddle boat is on your Christmas list! How fun would that be! 😃
