Actually the Idris was an add-on ship in the Kickstarter. It was first mentioned on November 18th of 2012 when it was released as a add on pledge.

I would love to see Star Citizen have the Idris be a persistent guild base for players. You set your regeneration to the Idris, you can claim ships in the hangar bay, and have personal / guild storage of loot. Guild members will have a permanent beacon and access to the ship. So for those that don't want to live in space stations, the Idris can be parked somewhere in the system to operate out of. Handy for those who are have crimestats and don't want to live out of GrimHex. The biggest key is having the hangar bay hold ships for players to use. The Idris is strong and can hold its own in any fight, but this is like taking an 890 jump to go pirating, it's too huge for some group play, but makes an excellent home base.

Very interesting this deep dive with all the lore to acompany it. Quite different from reviews and it opens up so many new ships for content! The title is a bit difficult for me. A drydock is a place/hangar where ships get repaired and overhauled or even finished when newly bulit. But you would also have the History of it at hand, not only for that specific vesseln, but for the whole line. But other then a Regestry or Museum I cannot think of another name (don't call it museum's regestry! ). Drydock sounds fine and does great. Having worked with one is where the name kind of itches me! The series is almost unique, haven't seen deep dives on ships like this before. And don mind the lenght of it. I will always be as long as it has to be. If there is a lot information to impart, so be it. Great one, hurry up with the next one! 😂

Do you have the M already? If not: You won't get it, unless you purchase a $10k+ package. What you still can get is the P version and maybe upgrade to K for more firepower. Btw: For the Argo you should also consider the Pisces as possible alternative. It's quite good on its owns, can also carry personal and goods AND comes with a good Quantum Drive :)

40? :D You can easily fit 32 Arrows in it; maybe up to 50 if you do some actual carrier layout on the flight-deck (Just imagine Tetris and you have the exact idea ^^) So I expect 100-150, maybe even more, on an Idris :)

Concerning the MPUV docking station under the main deck, it's unclear whether other ships would be compatible with this setup. Aegis and Argo have an established relationship, and the docking station appears to be designed specifically for the MPUV. Unlike the standard practice of landing and taking off, the MPUV attaches to ceiling clamps and departs by dropping out. The escape pods are the pods that come with the MPUV. In the event of an emergency, Argo vessels will be deployed for the retrieval of these escape pods.

The thing is: You cannot upgrade the P to an M. These are two different ships, though similar. The upgrade from P to K just adds/exchanges some weapons. But the M has a different hull, possibly even a different interior layout, as it has less cargo than the P.

Railgun is only for M version. P has no S10 weapon and K has a S10 laser-beam. For the crew: The numbers are heavily outdated. With 8 you might man the turrets, but it doesn't include the pilots, engineers and what else. I did some serious calculations and my current crew requirements number 49 people. To be able to run the ship most efficiently. This might change but not by much. Except for a couple more engineers maybe.

So the turret with 2xS7 guns is at the same spot as the S8 plowshare missile launcher spot? Does that mean they're exchangeable? I almost bought it during the last invictus week, but stopped myself from whaling to hard, for a second I also considered the javelin but then quickly told myself to fuck off and get a grip. In the end I've drawn the line at the Galaxy, Perseus, Odyssey and Polaris as my biggest ships. (carrack too if it counts)

In the game's current state I don't see much use for large ships with large crews. There is very little to do as a group that isn't more efficient or profitable as a solo player. Other than PVP, I have yet to find much reason to group up with others. To me it usually just means splitting rewards when I could have easily soloed it and kept all the money. That doesn't even start to cover just collecting the crew to one place and getting something going. That can take ages in itself, making group play that much less appealing.

I agree, for the most part, for the current state of the game. Right now the main reason to multi crew is for the fun experience of it, it's not necessarily the most efficient. But I hope that will change in the future. I can imagine as the game world gets bigger too, there will be more value in ships with longer traverse capabilities.

cool frigate but its design just doesn't speak to me like the design of the Drake Kraken, heck I think I prefer the design of the Perseus more than the Idris. These capital ships are really cool only if you have other people with you, I dont think I'd find it fun to fly with just AI manning the guns. But until we can actually get to experience it in the game, I'd probably reserve judgment on it. Excellent video as always :)

Arghhh! 3 ships are not a force multiplier. Think this way - the Idris jumps in with six Hornets, a further three inside. All nine can then cycle in and out for limited repairs, fuel (inc quantum) and ammo. All depending on limited stores, naturally. There's your little fleet with a command and control mothership. Only having 3 escort fighters is pitiful when you think about of it - fine for certain scenarios, but the ability to support more escorts would be hugely appreciated.

Capital ships move too fast. They should have superior Q drive and MUCH more sluggish regular engines. I dont like how nimble these ships are when you compare them to Corsair for example. Corsair handles like a Hammerhead, being a fraction of its mass. Ridiculous.
