Two things, I think about all the time. With aging parents. They lose their mobility. Self-driving cars to get them where they want to go. And an Optimus to watch over them and keep company. Plus, the robot will take over the chores of actually cleaning them when neither the child nor the parent wants to. Just the retention of dignity will be worth the price! Can't wait for the next 5 years. And beyond!

Elon’s acquisition of twitter could have been a fumble, but the data acquired from twitter will feed XAI. So the cost of the acquisition should be weighed against the potential of XAI. Add that to the fact that billionaires have always owned a piece of media. He can use it to further his agenda. It was a major cost, but it’s not without advantage. Was it expensive? Sure. Was it also a massive potential benefit? Absolutely. I can say this as someone who agrees with Elon’s greater vision, AND as someone who has always been left leaning.

the story seems to be that tesla is assumed to succeed at coming up with useful bots they can build at scale. Others may also succeed but they may not have the capital, ai smarts, training experience to build out a large number of robots at the same scale as tesla can. Its like theres a 95% chance of tesla success against a whole collection of smaller limited successes in various niches.

lol @ all labor will be replaced by robots... not even close. Maybe where the jobs are repeatable but where there is variability there will be humans. With my job there are so many variables involved and no job is ever the same. I've been doing this for 20 years and I still learn something new all the time. They would also need to program guardrails into the system to prevent damage but sometimes we just take calculated risks to see what happens. An hour or two of downtime basically covers my wages for a year. The robots would be running into those issues all the time as it tries to figure things out. The people that actually have skills to do real world jobs will be fine.

@@proximoAZ possible; I don't know much about financing, but legacy insurance companies are already approved by ALL the states. Tesla would have to be approved. Also as partners in the insurance it would cut the cost and risk for full replacement in about half - depending upon their deal. What if the car isn't a Tesla? But Tesla made a deal with say, Ford for FSD. An accident could change things. What if two Teslas crash together?

You've all gone crazy, Tesla already employees hundreds if not thousands of robots on their assembly lines around the world, and not one of them look like a human. Present-day construction equipment is already automated, and they use GPS and software to perform just fine without a human in the seat. Why would a company buy a robot to ride along. Your FSD convention is a prime example. Why would you put a Tesla-bot in the drivers seat? Sure, there will be a place for humanoid robots, but in numbers to satisfy a trillion dollar market that's just silly. And you're carrying on like Tesla-bots wouldn't have competitors. Boston dynamics' latest version of Atlas is years ahead of Tesla-bots their bots are performing complex tasks autonomously no need for human teleoperators.
