Another excellent video JP, my favorite was the old red brick house. Very interesting how it was built. I love that this video has a mix of PA nature explorations, and explorations of abandon homes and buildings. The red brick house reminds me of a old general store, i think thats what it was. In Engle texas, i love seeing thoes old style of homes. 👍👍

Well, another great video done !! You're one of the greatest. I was at that dam years before they made that roadway on top of the dam. Before, the only way to get through to the other side was when the bottom roadway was not under water, you could drive on it. (Notice the guard rail going under water, that is the road). I'm still amazed at the amount of work that went into building the dam. So many rocks !!

Loved everything about this explore. The culvert in the beginning with those rich hues of green was just gorgeous. That little bird‘s nest with the eggs was a little highlight for me too. And the dam with that huge air shaft is fascinating! I’d love to see what it looks like in the winter when you can see the bottom of the construction. I used to know someone who grew up in that area and knew everything about the local history going way back. He told me the American Flag building was originally a gas station with a little repair garage next to it and the owner and his family lived in the back of the building. Later it became a little store that sold general goods and was also a bait shop at some point. I remember Pleasure Dome's sign being in the parking lot and judging by what's stored inside and the fact they painted the building I'm guessing they are leasing or own that piece of property.

Loved this trip! I can see why they named the falls "Buttermilk Falls" -- because from a distance, it literally looks like a giant stack of pancakes, and the falls could be the sugary syrup. Just beautiful! Favorite spot was the gorgeous arched culvert w/awesome masonry. Also loved the J-Hawk views of the dam reservoir. And when you were standing next to it, you filmed some awesome cloud reflection shots of the reservoir as you were speaking. Very cool! Unique paint job on the old fireworks (?) stand, too. One of my favorite finds is the culvert with the beautiful archway construction and the cute bird's nest and the sound of the trickling water is so peaceful. When looking at the culvert opening, and the structure straight on, it almost looks like a small castle. I think it's so interesting to see what is below the surface of the water too, great underwater footage! Gorgeous nature's carpet in both places. Beautiful drone footage of the dam area. @christine_penn Жыл бұрын
The term you looking for is a "Dam Release". US Corp of engineers produces a schedule that you can look up. These are coordinated with the rafting trips downstream. Back many years, snow melt and other cases would cause lots of flooding problems downstream. There is a relevant history of the settlement that became Lehighton. What is interesting is how far over time they had to move the settlement up stream (Creek, not river) in order to avoid the yearly flooding that used to occur. Also flooding took out the canal and dams, and later the railroads running through the gorge at times. That's what drove them to put the dam in. Also, its blocking the Lehigh river, which does split into two north of the dam. But the river continues all the way up to Tobyhanna eventually. I've been there many times myself and have seen the lake at many levels... Visited that Caboose in White Haven many of times. Wood's Ice cream is right there in the shops, another frequent stop for me. Ride my bike there many times up from Jim Thorpe and back (@50 mile round trip). (Sometimes all the way up to Black Diamond and back (@70 mile round trip).) Nice video!
