Very good points you make here Mieke! I am right there with you. We reached a leave when we don't care to impress others. I'm sure people that dress expensive don't worry about looking expensive 😉. ( I hope 🫢). Elegance can be achieved at any price point. Even a $10 dress can look more elegant than a $100 pair of jeans. Elegance and poise is an art isn't it? Thank you for sharing ☺️

An interesting video! Looking expensive isn't my goal, but looking good is :). Your history of white works as well for men as for women, although I do manage to stain light coloured trousers very regularly :). i like the comments on taking care of the clothes, which is something that needs to be done regardless of the cost of them. The history of preppy is very interesting, deriving from the Ivy look as it does. Pleats are also more expensive because they use more material than flat front clothes, so look more luxurious from that perspective. I'm glad of your description of your jewelry approach, since you always look great in the level of accessories you wear, and they show your attention to detail and your personal style. Similarly, your monochromatic approach and use of neutrals and statement pieces comes through well. I'm with you on the no rips. I've never seen the point of buying jeans pre-ripped!

Missed you S! 🤗 You make such a good point about the pleats, it uses a lot more material which I didn't think of. And the process of making the garment must be more substantial. The white hmm, I think most of us have this preconception of staying clean and get dirty more often, but do your regular colored clothes stain as well? I can see stains and dirty on dark clothes easily. I just learned to wear clothes according to the activity. If I sit in the car and sit at my desk there is minimal stain opportunity, I am extra careful at lunch. I also keep spare clothes in my trunk just in case, you never know. But if I know I will get dirty or need to be less careful I wear darker and comfy " home clothes" or dare I say the J word? 😅 For cooking I always use a full body apron, can't think of when I get dirty. When do you? I am now curious 🤔. I learn something every day, especially from connoisseurs like yourself. I appreciate the insight as always.

Fit is so important and a good tailor or seamstress is vital. Also shoes must be good quality, flip flops and the like are for the pool not the street.
@Chicquette

Yes Yes Yes!!! 100% agree with the flip flops. I can't find any that are comfortable anyway so I try to avoid them even at the pool. If I can get away with leather I will do it and stay away from wetness 😉. Yes seamstress is so important. Thank you for sharing Mikki! 😊

Very good video. I see people wearing expensive stuff unironed, it totally ruins the look. Also, I sometimes see people (men and women) in white shirts or other items that look like those are decades old. I think if you do buy white clothing you have to let it go at some point. I never wear white because a) even if it hangs in the closet it does get stains (don't ask me but it's my experience) or for sure - as soon as I wear an expensive t-shirt or blouse I get stains that don't come out, but that's only me. Looking forward to your next video. You seem to put a lot of effort into creating and presenting content. Thank you!

Another wonderful video! I certainly enjoy your presentation of the information! I feel 'expensive' in my 2 cashmere sweaters that I have and any time I add a blazer as a 3rd piece. I mostly like to shop at consignment stores so I definitely do not pay allot for my clothing items!!

Thank you Celia! I can appreciate the cashmere sweaters as well. I own two that I purchased on discount. The one in this video is one of them. I don't remember last time I bought anything full price. They are usually marked up so much, for no reason. The blazer addition is such a beautiful way to upstyle any look. It's probably one of my top 3 clothing items, right next to dresses ☺️. Funnily enough, I vowed I would not buy ripped jeans. However, I could not find any summer shorts in the length I wanted, so decided to look at second hand (er, pre-loved) I found a pair by an expensive brand, still a lot to pay for second hand, that fitted well, intending to cut them at the knee. They were so comfortable and flattering, I decided to wear them as they were and just enjoy them. Such a shame that a beautiful garment was purposely distressed though. Paradoxically, in our society, it is seen as expensive
@Chicquette

Love this comment! I appreciate being resourceful more than buying the intended garments if I can. Same goes with other parts of life doesn't it? I recently forgot to pack my makeup brushes on a 10 day trip, but all my makeup was there. I refused to buy brushes, instead used my fingers and the look exceeded my expectations. Thinking outside of the box is satisfying and useful sometimes. Enjoy your ripped pants, that's what they are meant to do. The whole expensive ripped look seems like a mockery to our faces sometimes doesn't it? This is why I dislike paying retail price because something that cost $10 to make should not be sold for hundred of $. Sounds like a great find for you. Talk soon! 😘

This was a very interesting video. And I found it very informative. For me, I found the blue dress quite cheap, like the material was too shiny, and the flowers too sparse. I would have felt more elegant in the jersey dress. Different strokes for different folks, i guess.
@Chicquette
@Chicquette Жыл бұрын
Hi Dorcas, I'm glad you found it informative. I suppose one an argue that high price point doesn't always mean elegant. They are both polyester that's probably why it's shiny. Silk is also shiny. Yes, we all like different things. I was emphasizing the details and the structure. I like both and the jersey one most definitely looks very comfortable. Thank you for watching and sharing ☺️

@@Chicquette Sorry but, silk does not have to be shiny, I have many silk blouses, dresses, jackets and trousers and except for a couple of satin silk blouses non are shiny. (side point, please don't dry-clean silk). To be honest I also prefer the 'over' patterned dress the flower dress while a nice design it looks like cheap polyester. Other than that I agree with most of what you said.
@Chicquette
@Chicquette Жыл бұрын
@@lk6789 I didn't know that. Very informative. When I read about the benefits of wearing silk, the shiny look was somehow always mentioned. I did notice that some went away after a wash. Thought I damaged it. About patterns, I don't think I paid attention to how many were on a dress before either. And I have plenty of dresses of both styles. Now I care about the lining to make sure it doesn't cling to my tights. Thank you for watching and sharing!

@@Chicquette Silk is only fragile when wet, if it feels a little stiff after washing simply roll it lightly and hit it against a sofa or pillow, if you can avoid ironing after a couple of washes no more creases. Ironing like dry-cleaning ruins the fibers. Mine all go in the washing machine on the silk or wool cycle 30c and are never ironed. Same goes for cashmere and yak wool. Some silk has a slight shine, satin silk is very shiny it depends on the type and quality of silk

@@lk6789 very good tips, I will try them, although I am really adamant about wrinkles, I steam most of my clothes. I try to air dry when possible and hanging alone on a puffy hanger works for most sweaters.
