@@CarvingisFun I started whittling about 6 months ago and have looked for a good stropping guide a few times. You answered every question I had! Mainly pressure, angle and how to smooth compound. Thanks again for your guides!

I'm struggling to understand which compound I should use. I was gifted white red and green beaver craft compound yet from their website none implies intended use in terms I can understand. Does hone mean sharpening? Going by colour in their stroping video I think I should use the green one to maintain my whittling knife sharpness as it also seems to have the lowest microns (green: 5-7; red: 10-14; white: 50-63).

Honing is a stage of sharpening that makes the edge razor sharp!! I only use beavercrafts green compound, you really wont need to use any of the other colors

Using just the green beavercraft compound managed to get my knife properly sharp pretty quickly. Thank you for the video and the response!!

In your videos i can see two different strops. One is ruff and use compound. The other one is just leather strop not using any compound. What is the correct way of stropping ? I mean use ruff one first and leather second. Is it the way ?

All of my strops have compound on them, its juat some are so well used and smooth it looks like there isn't any. The compound on my strop turns dark after use because of the steel coming off the tool during stropping. If I were to scrape it, you would see the compound coming off. Either smooth or rough, just pick one and go. There really isnt a difference unless you put two different types of compounds on the strop.

How do you get the polishing compound from the strop?
@CarvingisFun
@CarvingisFun 5 ай бұрын
Not sure what you're asking here, would you give me a little more context? I ask as the compound is added to the strop, not recieved from the strop. Then when the compound is added to the strop, the loaded strop can now be used to hone your caving tools.
